ShannonSto Posted January 11, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2018 Hi all! We are sailing May 26. My understanding was that whale watching season ends in mid-April and that there are few—if any— whales to be seen after. Yet the whale watching excursions on our cruise are all marked “sold out”. Is this just Carnival’s way of saying “not available” or are there actually whales in late May/early June?
CruiserBruce Posted January 11, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 11, 2018 Not humpbacks...they are gone. Perhaps they have some other resident whales?
Kamloops50 Posted January 11, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 11, 2018 All the whales have gone north by May. There might be the odd juvenile male left. Only dolphins probably are left.
Rare Keith1010 Posted January 12, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 12, 2018 Yes, the season is over by then. Keith
Rare Hlitner Posted January 12, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 12, 2018 I suspect that Carnival is selling you a "whale of a story" rather than real whale watching. At that time of the year you will likely have to settle for seeing some Dolphins. Perhaps you should ask Carnival will they refund your excursion money.....if you have no sightings :).
