Cash

Hi all

I have a couple of questions on money that maybe someone can help with.

Do I need any cash for my cruise it's my flrst time?

I am under the impression that the ships are cashless

How does the sail card work?

Sorry, also when settling the bill do you pay immediately upon disembarking or do you send an invoice to your home address?

Thanks in advance

You can use cash as a backer for your on board expenses. You be issued a card that you use to pay for stuff. I think they do the cash thing in the Casino, though I've never been so I don't know for sure.

Oh yeah I forgot about the cash for tipping.

And you'll use the Set Sail card to get on and off the ship and make purchases for any extras like sodas, adult drinks, souvenirs.

Generally, except for gratuities, cash is not used for purchases on board. Some add cash gratuity to drinks, room service, porters, etc.

You onboard account must be paid before you leave the ship. They are very insistent on that!

Do you require money on the ship? No. But it's handy to have if you want to hand out some cash tips later on.

For the bill, when you check in, you will "declare" if you use a credit card or cash. The cash account needs to be "cashed out" by the end of the cruise (but I don't know the details, since we use CC).

The CC will get charged at the end, when you receive your final bill.

The card basically is your cash/credit car and the key to your room (or lounges for any you may have access to).

We always use cash and I just go down the last night and close out my account. They give you cash right there. I think if you don't do that you'll get a check in the mail at a later date of their choosing.

What do you mean you close your account and get cash back? Is it for removing prepaid gratuities? If so, why wait till the last day?

When I go on a cruise I always add money to my account before so it's there when I board. We never use it all so I get the balance back.

Wasn’t aware one could add a balance prior to a cruise. I know people can pay off their balance with cash. Still don’t understand. Maybe someone may enlighten me. Thanks

I always do this.

Once I make final payment (I usually put myself on a monthly payment schedule) I make an extra “payment” or two to RCCL and have it applied to OBC.

Whatever we don’t spend in the week, can be refunded at customer service at disembarkation, credited to the original credit card used, or they will send you a check.

I know some find this controversial, but I like not having a bill at the end of the week, and like I said earlier; I had been making monthly payments on the cruise fare, what’s one more month’s payment.

Thanks. Never knew one had an option for payments to Royal. Where is this option to make payments. Might be better to have my Casino play money paid ahead of time.

You can not purchase the OBC online like everything else, unfortunately.

You need to call the Royal Gifts and Gear department.

Really quite an easy process.

I was confused because it seemed to be indicated you could add refundable OBC online. This would be helpful and eliminate carrying a big wad of $100’s to play in the Casino.

Some say you can, some say to call? Is it possible to make an bank transfer without use of a CC or Debit Card??
