Is there any price advantage to buying liquor on board to take home to the USA?

You will most likely find some multi bottle specials onboard that will probably be cheaper onboard than what you can find at home. Plus, you won't pay duty on it, but it is somewhat of a hassle to carry it home, especially if you have to fly.....so not sure of the value of savings.

We've bought gifts of liquor a couple times when we've sailed, but only when we disembarked in SF so no flight to take. We have a wine carrier that has our two allotted bottles of wine for consumption onboard, thus, space for liquor at the end of the cruise.

Some on these boards have said you can get pretty much the same pricing in the big box stores at home ... so the savings is minimal if it just the sales tax you avoid.

Really depends on where you live. Here in Washington (since we don't have to fly) it is an awesome deal. Our liquor taxes are almost 30% so we buy the max but as previous posters have said, the prices are pretty much what we see without our taxes but you have to fly them home.

You could save a little by buying on board, especially if your state taxes liquor. But if you are flying, be prepared for your luggage to be opened by security at the airport even if you check your luggage. Then you have the worry about a broken bottle ruining your clothes. Fine if you are driving from the cruise port home.

Rhode Island has no tax on wine and spirits. Only tax is on beer.
