xmascruisin Posted December 16, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 16, 2017 Want to take 91 year old mom ashore at 1 port. Gets around pretty good for her age with a cane. Help! Any suggestions? Cabo, Mazatlan or PV? Thanks
CruiserBruce Posted December 16, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 16, 2017 Cabo is a tender port, so that would drop it down on my list for your given situation. The other two ports are easier to get ashore in, as they dock, not tender.
xmascruisin Posted December 16, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted December 16, 2017 Thanks Cruiser. Do Maz and PV both have the golf cart thingies to get to a restaurant/shopping/or beach area?
lisa10knoll Posted December 16, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 16, 2017 PV is the only port my parents get off when we cruise the Mexican Rivera. It is a short walk out of the terminal area. There is ‘shopping’ and a restaurant right there. There is also access to a public beach between the shopping and hotel next to the port. You can also easily get a taxi/van to the Halcion-boardwalk area with beach, restaurants & shopping. Cabo has a tender and easy walking but might be too much walking around the marina. The marina has shops and restaurants but no beach. You can get a water taxi at the marina to take you to a beach. Mazatlan has shops at the marina and golf cart type taxis to take you to the shopping areas, beach or to see the historic areas. It really depends on what you want to do, see, shop for and how much you want to spend. Sent from my iPad using Forums
xmascruisin Posted December 16, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted December 16, 2017 Thanks, Lisa. That helps a lot with what your folks do. I don't think she will want to do much, just get off the boat and stretch a bit. But also has option to do more with a taxi. PV sounds pretty good! riffatsea Posted December 16, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 16, 2017 PV is a great city but there are no "golf cart thingies" to take folks around. it is a large city. If you can walk out of the port you can just take a taxi to the malecon (boardwalk) and walk to a bench and sit if she can't walk far. My friend who has trouble walking takes a foldable wheel chair to make being in port easier. You might consider that.
swedish weave Posted December 16, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 16, 2017 I think Mazatlan would be the best fit for you. They have a shuttle tram to take you from ship side to the terminal building. The shopping area is inside and outside the building, and the pulmonia taxis are a few steps outside the building if you want a city tour or ride to the beach. xmascruisin Posted December 17, 2017 Author #8 Share Posted December 17, 2017 Thanks all. Think Cabo is out, and will weigh options of the others. You really helped with good info.
Ine Posted December 17, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 17, 2017 Want to take 91 year old mom ashore at 1 port. Gets around pretty good for her age with a cane. Help! Any suggestions? Cabo, Mazatlan or PV? Thanks At the dock in PVR you will find guides and also cabs offering their services. Best way to see more of PVR, with maybe a stop for drinks at Playa los Muertos in old town. Rare Keith1010 Posted December 17, 2017 #10 Share Posted December 17, 2017 I too would go with Puerto Vallarta. Even consider taking a taxi around town. Keith
