Good and thank you. I hope you have good luck with them where others have not. They are supposed to have the keys for them, but I know several where they have been cut off or the person told to open the suitcase.Maybe they will have their act together, but I assume it is whichever airport is geared up for this, and not all are.I am sticking with my twist ties as they have never been removed....so far.Have a great cruise!!! Cable ties

We have been using the cable ties but thought that we would give these a try. Reason being that we plan to go Europe next year and want our luggage locked once we arrive in a foreign port.

Hi,
We returned from our cruise in Feb we found that TSA had opened one of our bags. I had closed it with a twist tie, but had the lock to the luggage in the front zipper pocket. When we got home and found the "note" from TSA that our bag had been inspected they closed it with the luggage lock from the front pocket instead of the twist tie. Kinda surprised me, thought it was nice of them to do that. Think I'll continue to do that in the future, but I know not all TSA employees will be that kind, but hopeful

Brookstones is supposed to have them. For months we kept checking their store. We finally gave up and ordered them through Magellan's. Today when we were shopping we stopped at our local Brookstones - they finally had them in.

We have had our luggage opened several both in Pittsburgh and Ft Lauderdale. The cable tie was cut off. There was never a note in our luggage nor was a new cable tie put on the luggage.

I have ordered from Magellans in the past, so I'll check their web site for the TSA approved locks. Thanks for the info.

I just bought a set of 2 for $20 at Brookstones. They told me that if a lock is cut off, return it and they will replace it at no charge. I haven't had the chance to use them yet, though.

I asked similar question on another board and was told that while TSA locks can be replaced if cut off, there were instances where the locks were cut and thrown away! Can't return something you don't have anymore. It was sugested to use "cat collar" cable type things. But, remember to pack sissors in outside pocket to cut them off when you arrive at your destination.

During another "last minute run" to Walmart here in coastal NC, I found TSA locks in a 3-pack of smaller locks - figured they would work on our smaller 2 bags before boarding our ship.

Hope this helps someone!

I like this guarantee - when they cut them you don't get them back. I've used the TSA locks before and I plan on them being cut off but have not yet.

How does that guarantee work? Do you just bring your receipt back to Brookstone and tell them the lock was cut off the bag and they just give you a new one?

I filed an on-line claim with TSA. Had a reimbursement check in 4-6 weeks.

I don't know what the obsession with TSA locks is. We still use the regular locks and have never had our luggage opened during any domestic or international flights. Are people under the assumption that you HAVE TO use TSA locks because if that's the case I can assure you that you don't. I can't believe people would actually spend $12.00 on a TSA lock that you don't even need.

That was my experience. My brand new TSA locks were cut off and not returned.

Now I just go to Home Depot and buy zip ties and put a fingernail clipper in the pocket. I also pack extra zip ties just in case they are cut any time during the trip.

A friend of mine used TSA locks and managed to leave the keys at home. :p

If you bag is is in need of a search (for whatever reason, mine is over half of the time), the lock will be removed. That's why you need a TSA lock. I'm guessing my $5 TSA locks are probably less expensive than a quality lock that they'll cut as well.

I have never seen a TSA lock that had keys so what the pp said regarding forgetting the keys is news to me. As to the guarantee thing, I was being sarcastic as to the portion that said "just return the lock for a refund".

Wal-mart and Target both carry the TSA locks in their luggage section. There are combo ones and key ones. The TSA ones have a special logo on them and say something about TSA on the package. They also still carry the plain ones and the TSA keys at the airport don"t work on those. They are a little cheaper than at the specialty stores. As per news reports there still are items stolen on occasion.:(

We ran across the heavy TSA 3 # combination locks at Walgreens for only $5.99. We use these in conjuction with our keyed locks ($7.99 for 2 miniature TSA locks at Target) for the small outer pockets on our luggage.

We enjoy cruise travel and all-inclusive land vacations and I can tell you that these locks really came in handy. Not only on the ship (with the maids leaving your door open to the hallway while cleaning the room) but also at the resorts. We generally carry our laptop but it does not fit in the safe so we placed it back in our luggage and locked it. We felt much more secure.

When we arrive at the airport and the porter tells us to make sure our bags are unlocked, we announce that we have TSA locks and they wave the bags on through.

We have had our bags checked 3 times since we started using the TSA locks and the only way we were aware was because they left the bag inspection flyer inside our bag. Never had the locks cut off.

I like using cable ties - a lot!

They let you know right away if someone has been in your suitcase (TSA or (ahem) baggage handler). And the TSA/Security will either leave a note inside or have the bag wrapped in "security" plastic (at which point you might not recognize it).

Last Sept coming back from Italy 1 of my luggage didn't make it and was delivered the next day. The courier mentioned the bag had exploded while being handled (the zipper seam gave out). I was *SHOCKED* to find while the bag was destroyed, not a single thing was missing!! We had put some gifts and dry foods in the bag and it was all in there.
