asylum575 Posted September 25, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 25, 2009 Last month, I cashed in 5000 for the $100 casino play and 5000 for $50 OBC. I miss the old days, too. The $100 casino slot play went fast. I played $5 slots hoping for the best. Should have took more OBC.
Rare CTCruisers Posted September 25, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 25, 2009 If you go to their website you can see what the points are worth and how much you need accumulate for certain awards. $50 OBC= 5,000 points After that, once you hit 10,000 points you can get either OBC or money off a cruise in the same increments where $50 = 5,000 $100 OBC = 10,000 points $100 off a cruise = 10,000 points they have rewards for 3 or 4 day cruises and 7 day cruises as well. blindrid Posted September 25, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 25, 2009 Agree. Not worth much I just checked yesterday to see what my points would get and I found pretty much nothing. When I get around to it, I'm going to cancel and get something else.
terrymtex01 Posted September 25, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 25, 2009 It will vary for each person, granted, but for us, we haven't found anything that really beats their current rewards. I know the rewards for certificates aren't as good as they once were, but there are benefits to the new World Points. Now we can use them towards NCL or towards hotels, airfare, etc. We are, I guess, in the few that do not mind the change THAT much. Please note the THAT.. LOL. Cause I would go back to the old plan in a heart beat, but, the new way isn't horrible when compared to what all we have seen available.
nancyfancy40 Posted September 25, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 25, 2009 I to miss the old days of the card, but change does happen. In one year, I had enough credits to get 250 OBC for my last cruise. I will probably save up to get the cash back to use on my next cruise. Little side note. On the 17th, 18th and 19th of last week the Sun process 3 pending charges on the card, while we were on the ship. On the 20th(last day of cruise), they ran the real full charge thru the card. However, two of the pending took 5 days to disappear and one is still showing as pending. So, be aware that NCL pendings do not come off quickly. So if you are one, that runs close to your limit, you might have problems. Like in this case on the card, were 3 pending and the real charge. Actually got sticker shook when I saw all four amounts on the card, knew I had had a great cruise, but knew I did not drink, or shop that much. Ha Ha Was all ready to call NCL, then realized that three were only pending. Ate up a lot of the credit available. So just a note, for those close to the edge. BarBug Posted September 26, 2009 #8 Share Posted September 26, 2009 Apparently, World Points can't be redeemed if you have another promotion on your booking. I'm booked using the Harrah's "discount" (which was not a discount, but that's another story) and so I can't "buy" the casino credits with my points.....darn darn darn...... WinnieinWA Posted September 26, 2009 #9 Share Posted September 26, 2009 Does anyone use their World Points NCL credit card to pay utilities with? I use my card for every purchase, pay it off at the end of the month and have already accumulated 16,000. points. While I did enjoy the free cruise I got from the old program I know that won't happen again. I'm trying to figure out how to maximize my points and the only other way I can think of is to pay utilities with it. That would be a few hundred bucks per month. Then, can I add on house taxes, fed taxes, insurance premiums???? How long do you think it would take to get a free cruise? I'm not a math wiz so am asking you experienced posters.:) Worth it? Winnie.. here is the way it works, basically. Under the old plan, it took $30,000.00 in charges to get you a $500.00 cert. towards your next cruise. Under the new plan it takes $50,000.00 in charges to get the same cert. So you can still get the same thing towards your future cruises, it just takes a bit longer.. The amounts I posted are a rough estimate of the amounts it takes/took, but I am close.. 8-)

Under the 'OLD' program, if you had $30G's in charges you got $1000 off your next cruise. That's what makes this new program so darn awful. Now you need almost double thepoints for 1/2 the value. daryleann Posted September 26, 2009 #14 Share Posted September 26, 2009 Winnie- we pay the utilities and car insurance. If you buy a car, you can put a certain limit on the card, depending on dealer. Don't forget the groceries... my mother used to think that was a sin, but if you pay it off at the end of the month...:). I swear that is where all my charges seem to be from! Rare CTCruisers Posted September 26, 2009 #16 Share Posted September 26, 2009 Because of the change in the program, once we used the final certificates from the old one to take two cruises next year, we will probably stop taking cruises for awhile if not altogether. We will definitely consider other cruise lines as well.

We will definitely consider other cruise lines as well. I have to agree with you that it does open up the possibilities for other cruise lines. Between that and how tight NCL's casino's have become we have been tossing that idea around. Will miss Freestyle for sure, but.. times change. We are going to see how the casino is on the Dawn and start making decisions from there.
mablinki Posted November 27, 2009 #18 Share Posted November 27, 2009 Can I use my points to get Casino credits on my next cruise if I am using the $500 reward from my old card? CruisinMaterial Posted November 27, 2009 #19 Share Posted November 27, 2009 I miss the Compass Rewards too! It takes so much longer to get somewhere with this World Points promotion. Nowadays I'm hearing that banks are going to charge fees for rewards cards because consumers have finally awakened to realize credit card companies are out to charge crazy with their fees. Above all else everyone pays their credit cards on time to keep the revolving line of credit. Since the card companies are not making money off the interest like they used to and all the cards are being paid on time so they can't jack up the interest charge that way the new way they're going to do it is with fees. When that happens that's probably going to be the nail in the coffin for this card. I have only gotten discounts off cruises so sorry I can't help anyone with the casino program. (I don't gamble! :o)
PA Cruisers2 Posted November 28, 2009 #20 Share Posted November 28, 2009 I just got my MC statement and noticed that the NCL Bonus Points is the amount of my final payment for our upcoming cruise. I thought that NCL gave extra points for NCL purchases. I think when we got 3 points for each dollar spent, NCL purchases got you 4 points. Have they done away with extra points for NCL purchases? Obviously the old plan was better, but I have looked at other cards out there and decided that I'd keep this one. Using/cashing in the points is very easy and we seem to rack them up pretty quick anyway  To me, it amounts to a little extra off a cruise once in a while, at NO cost or effort on my part, so it's all good :)
PA Cruisers2 Posted November 28, 2009 #23 Share Posted November 28, 2009 Thanks, I think I understand now. So I got the regular points for the final payment of the cruise which is listed under the regular points on the statement, and then the additional 1 point for each dollar is listed under NCL bonus points. Thanks for clarifying that. I am just thankful for the points that I have accumulated in the past and those that I am now accumulating. It is "found money" and how can you complain about that! :p I know we got more points in the past, but lets all be happy that we get any points at all! The economy right now is hurting everyone. I am just happy and thankful that we can still go on a cruise.:)
