Just like the Airport - all bags scanned. Carry on they ask you to remove the object. Checked bags they don't open but hold the bad in a common room and ask you to open and remove the object.

How can they tell - look at the screen in an airport - a bottle looks just like a bottle.

If a checked bag is found out, do they confront and embarrass you in front of everyone, or do they simply leave a note on your door asking you to join the "private room"

From what I have read, they leave a note and you have to go to the "dungeon" to get your bags. :D

If your not into your bags being held up...then I suggest you smuggle your stuff in your carry-on bags. Hint: plastic does not show up on the scanner I hear.

You should get a note thats all. The only time my bag was captured it just never showed up. I had my room steward check on my bag. He told me it was being held downstairs. I gave him a $20 to get it. Viola single malt in the cabin.

Hey Shoreguy-

Thanks for all the replies to my posts in the past. Have a question regarding your last post on this thread. I am planning on taking some single malt and goose. We will be staying in the Owners suite aboard the sun....which as you know comes with stocked bar, so i plan on bringing all the extra to basically make it a complete bar. If my bags do get captured.. do you think the butler will grab them from the private room with a little monetary incentive? I know you can only give your experience, but just let me know how confident the butler was in returning with your bags and alcohol in them.

we are taking our first ever (just us-no moms & Dads or extended family) family vacation. Myself, hubby, and 6 year old. We are truly splurging to do this. I don't drink (after many years of doing so), but would like for my husband to have a beer or (or several) without breaking the bank. Seems crazy to spend $100 for $20 worth of Budweiser!! If my carefully dispersed and covered "tall-boys" are discovered-oh, well...win and lose...but I'm really not ready to be publicly humiliated in a long line of impatient cruisers who are ready to get on board.

They don't actually sell beer in plastic, do they?

My other thought...our cabin comes with a bottle of bubbly...perhaps the butler or concierge would exchange this for a bucket of beers? Asked the cruise line, and was told we'd have to ask when we get to our room. Any chance of this happening?

Also, would they really go to all the trouble of paging me to the dungeon for a six pack? Seems a bit over the top...

My guess if you are booked in the Owners suite even if the see a bottle in the bag it will get to the suite. I am as sure as I can be that if it is held up the Bulter will get it. The last thing the Bulter wants is an unhappy passenger it could be income effecting.

In the end it is all about revenue and you have made your contribution.

The fact is they have Goose onboard and some single malts. Not available from the bar set prior to the cruise but may be available to you when the Butler takes your bar order onboard. You may want to check with other who have stayed in an AA or A1. Best I have done is AB :(

I am confused  You will have a room with bubbly aka suite. You want to know if your Butler or Conceirge will exchange the bubbly?

I think they might but you could just downgrade so you have enough cash to enjoy the cruise. The bucket is $18 for 6 beers. Read the Daily they have 2 for 1 at some bars at different times.

FYI - plastic bottles make no difference unless you are going to strap them to your person and go thru the metal detector. An xray of a bottle looks like a bottle - glass or plastic.

As far as getting the beer onboard, here is what worked for me in the past: don't take it on at embarkation. Wait until the first port and grab a six-pack at a local grocery. You can sample the local flavors or go for US beer (just be aware that it will be an "import" over there.)

Then, just take it back on board, preferably right before sail time when the alcohol desk may be empty and there are long lines to get back on board. Don't try to hide it, they may not say anything, but if they do tell you to go to the alcohol desk, just nod in agreement and, as soon as they turn to help the next passenger, casually walk up the stairs to your room.

Salty,

You are a shrewd man!! I wonder if I can apply the same method with a few bottles of Captain Morgan?

We were upgraded from balcony for a mere $200 and couldn't say no (three in a balcony cabin would be a bit tighter). although my husband would be just as happy with the smaller room and the brews, I'd much prefer the whirlpool bath and the and the extra space...guess I'll have to make it up to him;)

I'm just wondering if there will be alot of pain and suffering (ie embarrassment and/or humiliation) involved if we just give it a try...I prefer to be rebuked w/o an audience (especially since we'll all be in the same space for several days).

Thank you for the recommendation about the port...sounds like a plan!!

I appreciate everyones suggestions on these boards...I really feel we can enjoy this vacation to it's fullest thanks to everyone's sharing of experience.:o

I remember in Barbados, we came back from a tour and still had a couple of hours before the deadline to be back on board. The Mount Gay distillery was very close to the pier, so we found a cab and went there for a tour.

We were lucky because the cab driver agreed to wait there for us. The tourists from the ship had all gone through, so my sweetie and I were the only people on the tour! We went through, albeit at a fast pace, and saw all the good details on rum-making (this is the oldest rum-distillery in the Caribbean, I believe.)

I got my limit of rum from the shop, and took the cab back. We made it back close to the cutoff time, but we were a few minutes early. Still, the cruise ship staff was in a hurry to go, and they paid no mind to the bulging Mount Gay bags filled with rum. The alcohol desk was closed. I did not open any of the bottles, but it was nice to have them in my room, rather than have them "confiscated" until the conclusion of the cruise.

Gosh I can't believe this....I started this topic and went on my week cruise, came back today and it is still going. Well, just to let everyone know, I took rum, tequila and Jack Daniels onboard and didn't get caught. My son also took a lot with him and he didn't get caught either. Now we did put it in different containers, so maybe that's the secret. Anyway, we took a lot and didn't drink much of it, but at least I had it when I wanted it. I still gave the cruise line a lot of money though.

What can happen in a week..the postings have been amusing to read for sure! You should have left what you didn't drink behind, read the posts and you'll see there's many who will do anything to have it "their way" LOL...Menina

We sure did. My son got married on the ship in Charleston and it was beautiful. It was our first time on NCL and I will have to say that NCL is not my favorite line. I am not saying I didn't like it, but it just wasn't the best. I am not a fan of freestyle. I enjoy the one waiter concept. We have always bonded with our wait-staff and it just wasn't possible on this one. I really couldn't tell you the name of one waiter we had. The food was very good though and the service was excellent. It was a great cruise to just get away for a week. It helps so much that we don't have to fly to get there. We may go again one day, but if we have a choice, NCL Majesty won't be it. The last day at sea was very very rough and rainy. There really wasn't enough to do to keep you busy if you weren't able to get out by the pool. At least on the larger ships, they have the indoor pools and it seems like more activity. On Majesty, if you didn't go to the casino or to the art auction, it didn't seem to be much more to do. We did all the craft corners and triva games, but ended up in our cabin watching a movie. All in all, we had a wonderful time and I think this ship would be a great way to get an introduction to cruising, especially for anyone in NC or SC who could drive to the pier.

Thanks for the review. I was wondering about the days at sea, how that would go. I usually like to stay busy, and love the pool and sunning, but indoor activities are good, too. I think I will bring a Scrabble game and some cards to pass the time when it is not pleasant outside. Maybe I will curl up in some quiet place during the day and read a book.
