What hotel to use in San Juan prior to cruise?

Recommended Posts

We are sailing from San Juan next summer, and we will fly in the day before. Does anyone have any suggestions on a hotel? I prefer it to be close to both the airport and the cruise terminal. Thanks for any help!

You could have one or the other but really not both. Would you rather be close to the airport or the cruise terminal??

study the maps that are posted.

Then decide what you want to do the day you are there and how much time you have.

last year we stayed closer to the airport and was on the beach, just lounged around the day/night before the cruise.

However, this year we want to do nightlife in Old San Juan the night before so we are staying at the Sheraton. Either way you will have to taxi to the pier for the ship. Just decide where you want to be the night before to cut down on taxi price/time.

This is an aerial of San Juan.

But it does not show the airport that the OP will be using. The Isla Grande airport is a small airport, it is not used for commercial flights. The Luis Munoz Marin International Airport where commercial flights land is further to the east. It is about a 20 minute ride from the airport to the cruise terminal.

We stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan last March and loved it. It's a very nice hotel that is walking distance from many nice restaurants and Old San Juan.

Sorry I thought the large letters that say SJU airport with an arrow would tell people where the airport was.

Sailing Serenade 02/27/10 and got Sheraton Old San Juan for 90.00 on priceline. Nice Hotel close to Pan american Pier.
Hopefully you didn't book Sheraton OSJ because of it's proximity to the pier. It's right across the road from the Old San Juan pier NOT Pan American. Pan American pier is on the other side of the inlet from OSJ pier. You will have a 20+ minute taxi ride, depending on traffic around the OSJ and Pan American piers.

I am from Puerto Rico. Water Club is awsome if you like the modern style very boutique style, Intercontinental is right on Isla Verde beach. Typical tourist hotel. If you want to taste Puerto Rico more then El Convento is beautiful it is a converted convent with a stunning courtyard and it is steps from the main highlight in Old San Juan the Moro, the oldest fort in the US territories. Embassy suites is also nice. The Radisson and Marriot are your typical tourist hotels with casinos ect.

We are sailing on January 3 on Adventure of the Seas. We are flying into SJU on January 2 and used Priceline to book a room for that one night. We got the Caribe Hilton (http://www.hiltoncaribbean.com/index.php?destination=sanjuan) but I've never stayed there so I don't know much about it. It will be my first time traveling to PR.
