Bag check time in at FLL?

I have to say that once I was early at the airport for my flight on Airtran and my baggage went on the earlier flight. I didn't know it and when all the bags had come off the carousel mine had still not shown up. We went into the office and there sitting on the floor were a number of bags, some of where were ours. Woman pointed to them and said take them. We could have taken all of them - no one asked us for verification. I thought that was terrible but same thing could have happened off the carousel because no one checked if you had your own luggage. Anyway, off topic - if you don't see your bags on the carousel - check in the office to see if they made a flight you didn't.

Our post-cruise flight leaves at 2:40 PM out of FLL. We expect to be at the airport by 9:30 - 10 AM.

My question is, how far in advance can we check our bags at the airport?

TIA

When we flew out of FLL to DTW this past March on Northwest, we couldn't check our bags until 3 hours before our flight even though we were there longer than that....perhaps your airline will be different (but I don't know which one you're flying on so I really can't say if your situation will be the same or different)

Also "some" of the security people are very strict about the size of your carry-on. My husband and I each has a carry on we brought from Atlanta to FLL.......but at the FLL airport to come back home they made us check it. When I asked why since we brought them down with us they said they were MUCH stricter than Atlanta and to GO CHECK IT!!!

I will never argue with security so I just did as I was told. Cost us $55 just to check luggage in FLL......

While we were waiting for our flight we saw many people come by that had the same exact size carryon as we did & some even had ones that were a bit larger. I guess we just picked the wrong security line.....:o

Anyway, just a "heads up".......

Southwest's policy is 4 hours! On our last cruise we signed up for their bags to go (I think that's the name) and they took our bags and gave us our boarding pass right at the pier when we got off the ship. It was well worth it not to have to mess with them!

Enjoy your cruise!
