Happy Hour

Recommended Posts

Due to join Noordam in 3 weeks. Have noted several mentions of happy hour on HAL which is a reasonably new concept since my last cruise.

Can someone please tell me how it works?

Two drinks for the price of one?

All drinks at half price?

Some other arrangement?

All bars?

Between which times?

Thanks for your help and merry Christmas to all

Hope you have fun on your cruise. We found happy hour between 4 and 5 in the Ocean bar every day. Two drinks for the price of one. I think they are pretty weak though. And I don't like strong drinks.:)

Nice concept though.

We just finished a cruise on the Noordam. They had Happy Hour daily in the Oceans Lounge usually from 7 -8pm. 1/2 price drinks, and the few times I ordered Jack and Coke I though it was pretty strong.

They also had happy hours some nights in the crows nest.

On our last cruise, it was 2 drinks for the price of one. Got a bit confusing, as we only WANTED 2 drinks, so we always double-checked with the server exactly how many drinks he was bringing us :) No complaints from us about the strength, they seemed like a regular drink.

On the Ryndam in May the happy hour was 4 to 5 pm or 4:30 to 5:30, at only a couple of bars (which I can't remember BUT they were listed in the daily program).

You cannot combine your drink card or your wine card with the 2-for-1 during Happy Hour. So if you order a glass of wine and use your wine card, you will get ONE glass of wine, not 2.

This Happy Hour thing keep changing all the time and differs by ship.

Last February on the Noordam there was Happy Hour every day from 4:30 - 5:30 in the Ocean Bar and Crow's Nest --2 for 1 drinks -- everything except the Premium drinks. We always got Stohli's on the rocks.

But on the Westerdam -- they tried it a couple of days -- house alcohols only -- 2 for 1 -- lasted only 2 days.

Zuiderdam -- only a couple of evenings from 4 - 5 for Happy Hour -- usually on the formal nights. A couple of times it was offered in the Casino from 11 PM - midnight.

Just ask the Bar Tenders in either the Ocean Bar or the Crow's Nest.

On our recent (Dec 5-12) cruise on the Eurodam, Happy Hour in Crow's Nest was from 4-5 pm most evenings. 2 for 1 drinks-probably not all, but we did not inquire. Hubby only wanted one Pina Colada, was only charged half price for it. I only drink wine, but was told that wasn't included, and was charged full price. That was OK, we both got what we wanted. Other Happy Hours elsewhere on the ship on various days, listed in the program. They seemed to change from day to day, and bar to bar. Good deal if it fits your schedule -we stopped purchasing wine and cocktail cards because of it.

Oosterdam sailing 11/28/09

Happy Hour: 4:30-5:30

Crows Nest and Ocean Bar

Drink of the Day INCLUDED in 2 for 1 pricing

Before a show in the main theater (I don't know if it was all shows or just this one) they were pushing 2 drinks for the price of 1. People asked if they could get one drink for half price and the answer was "no." I don't know if it was the same in the happy hour bars.

Hmmmmmmmm - that's not good expecting people to buy a drink and get the second one free -- wonder where they thought people would put 2 drinks during a show since many of the seats aren't around tables??

We will be on the Zuiderdam in April. What are drink cards? On the Disney ships, we could buy a large stein for beer and refill it for than than a smaller beer, but I don't remember them having anything special for drinks other than beer except for sodas.

Supposedly the drink cards on HAL will change to a different type of card in 2010. We had a wine card last week on the Noordam $41.40 for 10 glasses which includes 15% service charge. There is also a cocktail card which is $64.69 for 10 drinks but the plan is to have one card with a balance on it which you draw from for soda, cocktails, wines and specialty coffees. Don't know if there will be any savings on these.

We will be on the Noordam in April.

What is the cost of the drinks on board?

Wine

Beer

Spirits (Vodka & Lemonade)

Soda Drinks (Coca Cola etc)

Fruit Juices

At Happy Hour, can the 2 for 1 be two different drinks?

Are the Soda Cards a good deal? We will have two grand daughters with us.

Wine - get a wine card if not particular- house wine is quite acceptable making it less than 4.00 a glass - can be used anywhere on ship - if you like in your room - bring bottles with you- that and chamoagne are okay

Beer - think it was around 5.00 unless you got the bucket - I did not drink it on ship

Spirits (Vodka & Lemonade) - do not remember but think it was around 6.00 and up

Soda Drinks (Coca Cola etc) - drink card makes it $1.00 - bring a case with you

Fruit Juices - free

At Happy Hour, can the 2 for 1 be two different drinks? - no

Are the Soda Cards a good deal? - I think so - otherwise it is more like 1.50 p I think We will have two grand daughters with us.
