Best Not So Well Known Cruise Tip

gratuity added on top of the $8.75, and yes the drinks are expensive, which is why you will find so many people talking about "sneaking" in liquor. I saved for a whole year for my cruise and my drinks on-board. I don't sneak in liquor b/c I want to drink margaritas.

Thanks wrenchmonkey for opening this thread again. I, as well, was looking at the old thread of cruise tips and it is so long and started so long ago that it was hard to find alot of the current tips and information. I always enjoy reading insights and ideas from other cruisers. I get a sense that at different times on different ships, the casino perks for buying specialty/signiture/DOD drinks may vary a little bit. Still a great tip to know of and one that was new to me. Thanks again.:)

Instead of packing an extension cord, you can go to the pursers desk and get one. Save room in your luggage for more smuggled liquor! LOL. They will charge you a $25 deposit which is returned when you return the cord. That was on the Valor 2 years ago. We are leaving on the Miracle in a week. Can someone confirm this? I need to get packed this weekend.

Most experienced cruisers know this, but lots of newbies don't:

You CAN bring water and soda on board and it's not breaking any rules or policies. Bottles of wine (I believe it's one or two bottles per passenger) is also acceptable. We like DoD's and other things, so we don't bother with wine.

We pack ours in a duffel bag and put luggage tags on them. They are delivered right to our room, and we've never had any spillage. We do wrap them carefully and leave the sodas in their cardboard packaging. I just can't see paying 27 dollars for a week of soda. It's 3.99 for a 12 pack at your local Wal-Mart. 2 or 3 12 packs will fit in the duffel, along with 24 waters. We use the duffel as an "extra" return bag for goodies we've purchased or perhaps separating dirty clothes from clean ones.

Between the soda and water and NOT purchasing the cards or buying waters when leaving the ship, we typically save over 100.00 dollars. That's a lot to us, when you're just talking about drinks for 7 days.

Most people don't realize they have a sauna and steam room for free. It's up on the top deck where the messages are given on the Miracle, at least.

I can get messages in my room. Sometimes I do need to open the door to hear them though.:p

Come on now. People were smuggling booze long before the prices got high.

What do you think contributes to higher prices for drinks? That and the fact that people want to cruise for 7 days for 199 pp.

This is true!! We did this last year on the Freedom as Dad uses a C-Pap machine and forgot to bring an extension cord. They gave us one of those big orange ones to use.

Thanks for confirming. It had been 2 years since we had been on a cruise and I also use a c-pap. I just hate having to pack a bunch of stuff that just takes up room and adds weight.
