What does this mean??

I was just reading some old posts and I came across this:

" We very much enjoyed our cruise. I emailed port authority ahead, told them we were CC members, when we got there we mentioned membership, they moved us over to the “Suite” waiting line, it only had 2 folks in it! "

What does that mean? Has anyone done this? CC, I'm assuming, means cruise critic.

I think there is a shorter line for Latitudes Members. I remember that from our first cruise. That line was to the left and was much shorter than the one we were on. Some people were complaining (as people often do), but I figure that people who make return trips with the same cruise line should get some perks.

I don't know about CC members getting special treatment. How would they know? Anyone could say they are a cruise critic member....or maybe that doesn't mean cruise critic.

We took our first cruise this summer since becoming CC (cruise critic) members. Can't imagine how I ever planned our 7 others without it!

Anyhow, we emailed NCL prior to sailing indicating our roll call group were all members of cc and asked to be placed on the VIP list. Upon arrival we were placed in the "priority" line. After checking in they placed us in a private waiting room (ship wasn't ready for boarding) instead of waiting among the hoards of others. They also provided refreshments. We were the first to board once they began this process.

Try emailing them at:

Good luck!

Sounds great! What city was your embarkation port in? I think that may make a difference. NYC is a terminal nightmare and I have a feeling it's not likely they would even know what a VIP list is. In the event that they do...did they email you back and tell you where to go once you arrived at the port? Did they want the names of your roll call group, or did you just automaticlly send that info to them when you emailed. I would like to pass this info on to our CC group. ;)

This sounded wonderful to me, so I thought I would give it a try for my CC group sailing soon. I just got an "undeliverable" message back for this email address. Maybe someone else has had better luck, or a different contact person? Keeping fingers crossed!

Could this be Disney's "Castaway Club"?

No...I was doing a search on the NCL boards for the Spirit and found that quote. I can go back and get the link to the entire post if you wanted. I just didn't want to use someone else's entire post w/out them knowing it.

I followed that post a while back and e-mailed to the address listed and I got a reply saying there is no VIP treatment as indicated and that they have been blasted with tons of e-mails and even asked that I please post to state this is not true. I deleted the e-mail recently...wish now I hadn't so I could post the exact e-mail.

We did this for our NCL Spirit cruise to Alaska departing from Seattle this summer. I emailed the address I gave in an earlier post (per the directions of a thread I had seen on cc) along with a list of the names from our roll call. When we arrived at the port we asked for the VIP line and were escorted immediately to the correct location. If that doesn't work try telling them you are members of CC. We found that whenever we mentioned this peoples attitudes and personalities changed immediately!

Here is another email address you could try:

Chernandez@ncl.com

If that doesn't work the only thing I can think of is they have had so many requests for this that they have discontinued this "offer"? Sorry to see it go. Such an easy perk that costs them nothing, but yet gets them lots of mileage from the postings on our boards. Perhaps they haven't been reading lately????

Roll call is a thread where you can find other Cruise Critic members that are sailing on the same ship and same date as you are.

Once you've signed up to post on Cruise Critics (cc) you are a "member".

Hope this helps!

Or maybe too many people took advantage of the generosity? Unfortunately, many good things end up going away when greed gets in the way. I don't think that the long standing members of this board would do that but anyone just browsing or new could get those e mail addresses and take advantage of this great perk that loyal CC members were lucky enough to get. Now no one gets it. It's a shame.

Maybe CruiseCritic.com could come up with some way of identifying "longtime members", "frequent posters", or just give people the option to pay a (small) annual fee -- and then negotiate perks like this with the cruise lines for those members.

Just a suggestion ... I don't know who runs the site, or whether they'd be interested in doing something like this.

I know that some sites, such as Slashdot.org and Plastic.com, allow members to rate each other's posts (aka awarding "karma points"), which is a very effective and democratic way of identifying people who are making good contributions to a board.
