No more Alaska for Carnival

Guess they're not making enough money to justify putting the ship there? Or maybe all the booze smugglers put them out of business in that market.

i saw that it's because of the $50pp charge AK wants to charge the lines. Could this reverse when AK realizes how many jobs are going to be lost and how much money they will lose w/o cruise passengers?

$50pp tax imposed by Alaska so Carnival as well as other cruise lines have reduced their presence there. Alaska will wake up I'm sure as it's big $$ to the ports there.

They haven't released the 2011 Alaska schedule, yet.

 

Carnival Spirit is still scheduled to repo to Vancouver, arriving in May, 2011. It will have to do something once it gets there.

I haven't seen this reported either. We'd really like to do Hawaii again - loved the experience on the Carnival Spirit. But this is only offered just before and just after Alaska. So maybe I should get busy and book it? What's up?

I don't believe that Carnival Cruise Lines is leaving Alaska, however, Carnival PLC is pulling out the Princess 'Royal Princess' and HAL is pulling the 'Ryndam.' High cost of operation was cited as the reason...

My coworker is sailing the Carnival Spirit in June to Alaska from Seatle.

 

For the 2010 season of Alaska the Carnival Spirit will be sailing roundtrip from Seattle.

We looked into a cruise to Alaska, but by the time we got done with the cruise, the flight, hotel, and all the incidentals, we could go on two Mexican Riviera cruises and still have money left to spend.

I have to say that I have sailed Celebrity, Princess and Carnival for Alaska and my favorite was on the Carnival Spirit. The naturalist onboard was really great compared to the others.

If it were profitable, Carnival would probably still be offering Alaska.

 

I have a brother who lives in Sitka....he and his friends and acquaintances would be just as happy if they ALL left Alaska.

 

The residents don't like it at all.....and they certainly don't need the revenue.

Voters in 2006 passed a cruise ship ballot initiative that imposed new taxes on the large ships. Each passenger pays a $50 head tax, technically an excise tax.
