Smallest to Largest...Have I lost the plot?

Rick, No monstrosity at all, just WOW!! :D

 

I´m used to all kind of ship sizes from 100 pax on river cruise ships up to the Oasis. So I´m definitely not worried to get bored :D.

I have no idea what plot you are talking about. All cruises can be fun, if you just have the right attitude. We do inside cabins, and balconies....they are all fine....not much difference really, and we don't spend much time in the rooms.

My favorite cabin aboard Majesty is 7552 - right on the Promenade deck. I would come out of my cabin, walk down the hall to the left (towards the elevators) turn right and walk out onto the Promenade deck. So, if you are on deck 7, port or starboard, you can walk out the automatic doors and be on the promenade. (I used to call it my balcony):D

 

We are on deck 5...all the way forward :eek: never been that far forward before. I guess if the weather gets bad we will have our own wee rollercoaster :eek::D

The Majesty has a great itinerary! Key West, Nassau, and Coco Cay-a port every day and no sea days! You won't have time to get bored on the ship, not that you would anyway!

The Majesty underwent a $36 million makeover in mid-2008 and is gorgeous. And the ship isn't exactly small-it's just smaller than the mega ships that you are used to.

 

There are two hot tubs if memory serves me correctly. They are both quite small. The inside cabins are indeed small also, but are laid out so well that all your things should fit with no problem. The bathroom is the same size as other ships, and the closets are about the same size as well-maybe a little smaller. The room seems bigger if the beds are in the separated configuration. It opens up some space in the center of the room that you will not have when in the queen configuration.

The Majesty is the only RCL ship I have been on that has a Compass Deli. It's behind the Windjammer (may also be upstairs-I can't recall). It's never crowded in there and on embarkation day of the second leg of our B2B on Majesty, a bunch of suits from corporate were lunching there with some of the ship's officers.

 

We haven't been to Key West or Coco Cay before ..as for Nassau...we call that a sea day. But I have heard Key West is a fun place and Coco Cay is great for the beach...both these ports appeal to us and we won't have them on our Allure cruise.

 

Compass Deli...I have seen that mentioned before but don't know anything about it...what sort of food does it serve?

 

As she has had refit does that mean she has the flat tv's?

 

Will there be a safe in the cabin?

 

Will it be the dreaded shower curtain in the bathroom?

 

Glad to read there are hot tubs...gotta keep the young uns happy :D

Majesty is not small; it carries more passengers than the Radiance class ships. The only thing small about it is the stateroom size.

We were on her about a week ago and and I have read alot about how small the cabins are.. well, uhhmm, unless you are built VERY plus size, you won't have any problem at all.

We stayed in an inside cabin on deck 5, ok they weren't big, but I have stayed at hotelrooms in Manhattan and Hong Kong that were smaller.. se the pic I post, it was stateroom 55xx, just next door to the centrum. 1 min walk to the casino :)

We put the beds together and had plenty of room, we actually could have had one child with us (age 6), but with both children, then we would have needed a bigger bed, fortunately this cruise was without children..

We had 2 BIG travel suitcases with us, one was in the closet and the other one beside the bed, together with the overpacked cabin bag. So three suitcases won't be a problem at all if you keep the beds together, if you keep them apart, it might be little more cramped.

 

I would recomend you to visit Nassau, it wasn't at all threatful or dangerous what we could se, and I have traveled the Bakans during the war so I am not naive.

After a walk around town for about 2 hours, we rented a scooter and drove across the Island, swam at some public beaches that were right beside the road wich were very beautiful :) and then drove back and returned the scooter. If you like you can just take a walk 5 minutes from the ship and take a swim at the public beach in Nassau, wich is also nice.

 

The rooms had flat tvs and safes.

Compas Deli, I only ate there once as their operating times didn't suit us, I think they closed about 6 pm. But the food was nice, nothing fancy, but still ok.

The shower curtain wasn't bad, just make sure its behind the "wall" so that water don't pour out on the other floor, but even then, there is a drain so the water will disappear after a few minutes.

Oh thanks ..I thought Sovereign class was the smallest...but having just looked up the sizes etc in brochure I see I was wrong and infact the Vison class is smaller....yippeee..now no Smallest to Largest tshirt :D

We won't get off in Nassau as we were there in Dec on the Navigator when some of our fellow pax were robbed and held at gunpoint...and there is no way my son or his GF will get off the ship there for a long time.

We´re gonna be twice in Nassau as we´re doing the Eastern itinerary on the Oasis. So we´re definitely looking for (child appropriate) alternatives. Thanks for the information about the public beach. I´m thinking about touring the Altlantis (free part only).

Liz knowing so much about you I will give you my opinion. I have been on both the Oasis and the Majesty, I was also on the freedom with you. You definitely love the larger ships..I have always loved them both for different reasons.

 

This is definitely going to be an adjustment for you because all of the things that you love about the larger ships are going to be gone.

 

Now what i love about smaller ships is not what they have to offer but the people. I think you will see a noticeable difference in people who are on short cruises on smaller ships, you tend to get to know so many of them whereas on the larger ships you dont get to know as many people (well unless youve met them on the cc boards lol)

 

Go with an open mind, realize all those things like are not going to be there..but look for other things..you will see them..and you will have a great cruise!

 

I did that same itinerary on the majesty in August of 08 and had a great time, I would definitely do it again..in fact I may be persuaded to join you on this one lol

The Compass Deli is on the deck above the Windjammer. They serve wonderful sandwiches and quesadillas etc. They use a lot of organic breads and veggies (I loved that!). They also have Snapple Teas, Natucket Nectars etc. at an additional charge:) Don't forget Majesty also has Johnny Rockets and Sorrentos pizza as alternatives as well:D Been in an IS on Sovereign (before she left the fleet) and there was plenty of space. We nested our suitcases and stored them under the beds to keep the closets clear;) And yes, the shower curtains are ummmm...friendly:p

OP started by saying they had never been on anything smaller than Splendour. Actually, Splendour is slightly smaller than Majesty. We have been on Spendour and Monarch and DW has been on Majesty for 3 cruises to which I was not invited. We have no complaints about any of the three. The Cabins on Majesty/Monarch will be smaller than Splendour, but you will be fine. Plenty of room to sleep and change clothes. DW and her friends really like Majesty.

You asked about bars.... think you will enjoy the Schooner. It is on deck 5 and has wonderful windows you can watch the sea or just enjoy your "refreshment". Also the Viking Lounge. That is where you will be for "cocktails" for the Diamond event. Every day from 5 PM until ? (think 8:30). Only "free" is wine but there is 25% discount for drinks. Anyway, a beautiful venue. Bolero's, deck 7 on the Majesty is the larges Bolero's in the fleet... so if you like loud Latin music that is the place.... dancing also.

As (I think you know) we love the Majesty.... and as many have mentioned it is because of the warm and friendly Officers, Staff and Crew. They really make you feel welcome!

Oh.... since you are "forward" on deck 5.... bring ear plugs. You "may" have some noise when the anchor drops at Coco Cay. And..... if you need any info about bars in Key West.... let us know ;)

I wanted to try the Majesty because of you....I said to myself...this ship I have to try as H&D sail on her a lot so she must be pretty special :D

 

After getting our new confirmations for Allure Inaugural I might just have to upgrade on the MJ....or save the money for another cruise..not sure yet...but will let you know :D

I was a little worried about how I would like it, but I was very pleased with the ship, especially since it underwent a 40 million dollar renovation a couple of years ago. Sure, the cabins were a little small, but we didn't spend much time in there.

 

I really prefer the Radiance class ships, but the Majesty was just fine! I'm sure you'll have a great time on her.

I have never had an OV and wondering if perhaps we would be better in them rather than the Inside Q cabins? Or would you say as it is only 4 nights we should stick with what we have?
