Anastasia suggested restaurants

We have scheduled a 2 day tour with Anastasia tours. They have provided us a couple of restaurants for lunch. Day #1. Russian house, X1X Century Restaurant and Old Tower Restaurant. These are all in the City of Pushkin.

 

On day #2 in St. Petersburg, they have suggested Cafe Nep and Deja Vu Restaurant. Does anyone have any feedback on these choices or do you have suggestions of your own. I think most of us in our group would be looking for just a quick bite, not a fancy sit down meal.

Skip the Russian House the food was not that good more like banquet food

We used Anastasia in early August 2008. On the first day, we grabbed a quick lunch at the semi-cafeteria in the Peterhof gardens and ate outside on a great sunny day. On day two, we brought boxed lunches from the ship, dining in our van with its fold-up table, doors open as we overlooked Palace Square in front of the Hermitage. It was a perfect, wonderful lunch break in a historic setting look out at Alexander's Column. Our main objective was saving time and not having to wait for traveling to the place, order-taking and the meal to be prepared. BOTTOM-LINE: It's 100% your choice and decision! Anastasia will do what best fits your needs and interests. Tell her what you seek. There are pro-con factors, either way. I'm sure those suggested dining places will be nice and memorable. She can suggest places at the high, middle or lower levels, or do it more "on the run". That's the advantage of doing a private, custom tour. Below was our view as we had lunch after touring the Hermitage.

When you say you took a boxed lunch from the ship, how did you do this? Did you order stuff from room service and take it with you?

I arranged the evening prior with the main dining room maitre d' or manager to have boxed lunches ready the next morning for the four of us in our group (plus two more lunches for our guide and driver). That was a total of six box lunches. It worked fine for us. I can't say that any and all cruise lines will do that. We were on a smaller ship (Crystal Symphony) with 800 passengers where they are more used to doing custom requests. On larger ships, unusual requests might not be welcomed or possible. All you can do is ask. Or, you could order from room service. Or, gather up stuff from the breakfast buffet that am with bread and meats, fruits, etc., to make it work. Does this help?

What cruise ship are you using? Not every ship is as cooperative at Crystal, but if you ask in advance, there's always a chance they will be able to arrange something. I'd give it a try.

YES, I would go for it. Disney has a good cruising reputation and you're paying a decent price that includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, etc. I have found that if you are reasonable and decent in how you ask, generally people want to be helpful to you, the customer. Good luck!

We were told in advance that no food was allowed into Russia off our ship. For us it wasn't necessary as we had two lunches coming with our tour with SPB tours. But we always like to bring a few snacks along the way, but this time, we didn't want to take any chances.

Len, I just want to thank you for all your very informative posts and wonderful pictures regarding the Baltic cruises. We will be on a Princess cruise in July, and all your information has been extremely helpful.

You could also hit Topsiders or Pluto's (if they open early enough for you) and carry off yourself if that's what you are looking for. Just remeber to get something that will keep. Ask your head server to arrange it for you. Our boxes (lunches - we did sandwiches and fruit) were delivered in the AM by room service before we left the ship on those days.

We ate at XIX century, the food was good and we had a great relaxed lunch. The next day we had pies. We also had a tour arranged with Anastasia.

We are also touring with Anastasia. We opted not to do the sit-down restaurants because everyone had to order off a fixed menu. We opted for a park cafe in Peterhof for blintzes on day one and Stolli's for pies on day two.
