Why so much Alcohol???

Not sure where people that post saying they will not pay the price for a beer or drink on a cruise come from, but where I am from the prices are not that bad. If I go out to drink I go to a place that I will enjoy myself. No matter if that be a dive bar a club, lounge etc. I do not shop for the best alcohol prices to enjoy myself. Average price for a beer for a 12oz bottle is 4 without tip. Now get the 16oz alum. can its about 5 without tip. Drinks with house liquor are around 8 without tip. I dont smuggle nor would I just for the fact I dont care about the prices.

As for those of you that enjoy the AI experience, what is the likelihood that some cruise line will eventually offer an "all inclusive" price? Man, that seems to make so much sense it is amazing it hasn't been tried yet (well, at least to my knowledge).

Some cruise lines offer an AI experience, but you pay a "boat load" for it. Here's an example:

Finally, let's make one ship alcohol free and see how the drinking bashers like paying $200-$300 a day for an inside room. The drinkers are helping keep the price down, let us get started on our own booze so we are just buzzed enough to pay $6.61 for beers. Then when we are drunk, you buy us a shot to help get our second wind and we'll buy even more drinks:)

Excellent post, 100% agree.

I am so tired of the "do-gooders" always criticizing what others do. Just be thank-full that you can get a cheap holiday on the backs of people who actually spend money on board. People that smuggle will still out spend the non-drinkers by a large margin. I agree with Jason534 the drinking bashers really should by us a round to show their appreciation.

When I go on a cruise I have a budget. I only have a certain amount of discretionary income to spend. If I bring on my own liquor then I tend to spend more in the casino, on excursions and pictures. If they take away my liquor I will spend less on those other things and more on drinks. At the end of the day I will still spend the same amount. I don't think Carnival has considered this angle and I'm not sure cracking down on smuggling will necessarily lead to increased profits.

Very well said. Excellent, excellent post! They want to take away my stuff, fine! I will deal with it, but it won't make me spend more. I will gamble the same amount I had budgeted for and they can keep their bars and their pricey drinks, I won't go near them! You wanna call me "cheap" Dan-o my man? Go right ahead, I really could care less what you or anyone else thinks!

I would say judging others is considered just as bad or "unethical" as smuggling, yes.

None of us are perfect, and if smuggling alcohol gets you this uptight, you should probably just retire from the world.

People don't have to be "cheap", "unethical", and "living in caves". They could be the more politically correct terms of good steward with THEIR money, seeing the corporate giants sucking us dry and simple. See, we can all just get along, right! lol

All kidding aside, this is a stupid thread. People smuggle because they want to drink THEIR alcohol in whatever way they'd like to, whenever they'd like to. They just paid thousands of dollars to sleep for a week in a closet, they aren't being cheap! I don't particularly care what the "contract" says. I like to drink on my balcony and I'm not about to pay Carnival 200 bucks for a pint of rum. That's not being unethical. In my world, you're being stupid for even considering paying that kind of money for a few shots of liquor.

I'm guilty of smuggling my own booze

I'm guilty of consuming other peoples smuggled booze too

I'm guilty for bringing my own camera and taking my own formal pictures

I still buy drinks, still buy other people drinks and yes, I usually go home with at least one "Carnival" picture :D

I think the prices are high for a drink on board and there is a mandatory gratuity added. Obviously, the cruise lines are making ALOT on the booze and thats why you cant bring your own. I think they make their money once you are already there and that is why the price of the cruise hooks you. Also, Carnival is fun. A few drinks are nice, but too many can ruin your vacation...speaking from experience.

On our honeymoon on the Conquest a few years ago, we were walking around with some friends during formal night, finding cool places to take pictures with our cameras. I hopped up onto the sushi bar in my heels and dress and started posing. There was a Carnival photographer set up across from us not doing anything. He started to walk over, presumably to say we can't take pictures, or at least to tell me to get off the bar, but instead he started telling my husband and I the best way to pose so our friends could get the best shots!

If I go out I will pay 4-5$ each for a couple of beers. But if I am hanging around the pool I buy a 12 pack of Miller lite. HUGE difference. A bar, lounge, club, whatever is not the same thing as a ship. I will be the first to admit that it is all about the price for me. I am cheap, or thrifty, or whatever you want to call it. I am also confident in stating that our net worth is probably greater than most people on here, and a large part of the reason is because we are cheap, thrifty, or whatever you want to call it.

I'm not a smuggler, but it matters ZERO to me if others do.

I'm betting the farm that of all these "Rules are rules" people, NOT ONE of them can say they never break rules. Go 1 mile over the speed limit when you're late to work? Save a chair by the pool? Take 5 minutes extra for lunch at work? Call in sick EVER just because you didn't feel like going to work? Take 16 items into the 15 and under express lane at the grocery store? I got 99% of them with the speeding one.

There is no such thing as a person who never breaks the rules, which means that none of the holier than thous has a leg to stand on.

"Compromising their integrity", give me a break.

My Mom used to say "You worry about you, and trust me, that'll keep you plenty busy." SAGE advice.

Try the "EVERYBODY DOES It," defense if you ever go to court. It will fail there as badly as it fails here.

There is no integrity compromise. One has it or one does not.

honestly? I drink to get drunk on a cruise... I like to drink and i like how it makes me feel. Besides, i am an alcoholic... I smuggle booze because it cost way to much on the ship... I do not mind dropping 100.00 bones at the local club before driving home, because, 100.00 in one day is fine, but 1000.00 over seven days is a bit excessive... I find it less expensive, because i drink so much in my cave, to make wine out of the grapes i steal...what the hell is a metre? And praise jesus.:d

lmao!!:d

Greetings and a warm hello from cold Canada.

Every ounce of smuggled booze you pour down your throat is money out of your fellow cruiser's pockets. That's right folks, you are stealing from your fellow cruisers. Those that understand that they are not exempt from the rules of passage.

Every dollar off the bottom line must be made up elsewhere. Increased drink prices. Higher fares.

I don't make any value judgment on your choice to smuggle. But the fact that you are stealing money from my pocket ticks me off.

So once again I ask, why is it the responsibility of the drinkers to supplement the nondrinker's fares and keep the cost of everything (except booze - they keep raising the price of that) else from going up? What are the nondrinkers doing to keep prices low - they are taking from my pocket too, I guess, since they aren't buying alcohol. As I read on another board of a couple who were bragging because they only spent $67 between the two of them onboard. I think they are causing the prices to rise much more than anyone who has a drink or two that they don't purchase from Carnival. As others have also said - I guess they should make things fair and not allow pop, water and wine to be brought on board - that is also cutting into their profit!

Personally I don't normally drink alcohol. Not at home and not often when we go out to a nice dinner...just once in a while and 1 will do me fine!

HOWEVER on a cruise when I can sit back and relax and I don't have the eveyday responsabilities of getting my DD ready for school and going to work or driving the car....I like to be able to have a few big girl drinks(specially those fruity frozen ones in pretty glasses with fruits and umbrellas..mmm) . Not enogh to run up a huge bill.

My Hubby however....Drinks EVERY day. Does it make him an alcoholic?? Probably! He has his own business pays all of our bills, buys the groceries and all the big boy stuff. He is in his mid 40's and I don't play the maybe he'll change game. SO for him a few thousand in bar bills on a cruise would be plausable. SO if we decide to smuggle booze it would be because we do not want to single handedly keep the cruie line in bussiness :D! I'll spend enough ion their stores that they won't lose out.

What I do in the privacy of my suitcase is MY buisiness. I am not stealing, cheating or hurting anyone. The cruise companies are looking at their "bottom dollar", so am I. If I lose and get caught, its all good. But this does not make me a bad person, just a bad packer.

Why do you want passengers to gets "popped"(caught), its not a Bomb, just people trying to get Bombed. We all work hard for our dollars. Ease up on your judging and lets get back to the buisness of planning our hard earned fun! Peace!

But you smugglers are denying the bartenders all the grats.. The poor poor underpaid and overworked bartenders and waitstaff...

This is just as bad as pulling the tips back..

:p

I kid .. I kid.. I have no dog in this fight.. Dont drink enough, hardly any, to smuggle.. Don't care if you smuggle, snuggle.. huddle... Just don't hang on the stairs obstinately...:p:p

I have been posting this on RCCL threads for a couple of years..........the people who either carry on or check in cases of water/soda boggle my mind. I guess that's ok because they aren't breaking the rules but seriously, how tacky is that!! The soda/water people aren't taking revenue away from whatever cruiseline they are sailing.............right, my @$$.
