Rare tomculb Posted February 28, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2010 From what I've read on these boards and I think on the HAL website, embarkation begins at 11AM (San Diego, Oost., April). But now that I have printed out boarding documents, it says 1PM. Is that something new? Will compressed time to board make it more of a hassle? Is HAL hoping people won't have lunch on board? Thanks for any thoughts.
catl331 Posted February 28, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 28, 2010 Nothing new. The docs always give an afternoon time, and unless there's a problem debarking prior passengers, boarding begins around 11:00a.
iamaphisig Posted February 28, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 28, 2010 Honestly, we got on the Veendam in December and the whole thing curb to ship took ABOUT 15 minutes... Getting on at 11:00 could make for a long wait before you can get into your stateroom, and even once you're in you may not have your bags... I think getting there at 2:00... or even 3:00 would be totally fine. We're doing Oosterdam in March and we're not worrying about getting on too too early. Something to consider! Himself Posted February 28, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 28, 2010 I go as Chaplain and I am on by 11:00 AM. The passengers are not far behind most of the time. By the time I take my blood and get up to the Lido it is quite busy. I would definately be on by three so I dod not miss the boat drill.
PathfinderEss Posted February 28, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 28, 2010 Most the time boarding in SD starts around 11 to 11:30 am. I will say it can be a zoo at that time, especially if there is more then one ship in port. I also think 3 pm is a little late.
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 28, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 28, 2010 Welcome to Cruise Critic. HAL has printed that 1 PM boarding time on the documents for years. But at all the embarkation ports people arrive around 11 and people are usually getting on the ships by 11:30.
sassyredhat Posted March 1, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 1, 2010 We live in San Diego and usually arrive at the ship around 12 noon. Pat
