Capris pants in dining room

Recommended Posts

Pcur:

Actually, I'm sure she doesn't "like" everything I wear. Remember, we are NOT talking about a fashion statement. It isn't about looking stupid, its about looking bad. Nehru jackets were stupid, but they didn't make the man look bad. It is also not about a bad look for a small percentage of women. The mid-calf look only works for a small percentage.

If I pick out clothing that accentuates an obvious flaw, like my meager biceps, or give the appearance of a flaw, like making my shoulders (which are average) look scrawny, I appreciate her pointing that out. Just because all the guys are wearing a style doesn't mean I should wear it. There are plenty of looks that work for me.

Also, put your left hand on the bible, raise your right hand and swear: "I don't care if I look short and chunky, as long as I'm comfortable"

Again, my point is that the pant leg that strikes around the mid-calf makes the wearer look shorter and wider. The vast majority of women are not happy with this look. Why they are eagerly flocking to it, blows me away.

As the originator of the Capri pants look dorky comments, let me say that I shouldn't have said "leave them at home". Frankly, I don't care, there is so much bad fashion out there and these are no worse than anything else. It really was meant as an info item for the ladies that this seems to be a very prevelant fashion judgment of the gentlemen that, in my experience, most ladies are unaware of.

To offer something on the other side of the spectrum. Something that a very large % of guys feel is one of the sexiest items that a well-proportioned woman can wear (beats the socks off of ANY lingerie item from Victoria's secret). A cut off Tee shirt (the more cut off, obviously the better). Not a universally shared male opinion, but very prevelant as I said. So ladies, save your money, forgo the pretty lace and silk and just take the scissors to that old T shirt. Betcha you get a much better reaction from DH or significant other!

Methinks you have been straining the cheese too much through the tee shirts, out there in cheese land..

Yee Gods! tee shirts sexy, never!

OK, lets hear from the peanut gallery. Guys, DW (or DF) opens the door for you with the bottle of champagne and the "look" in her eyes. Victoria's secret or cut-off tee (and I do mean quite a bit of 'cut-off')?

Why hasn't anyone mentioned those terribly long shorts/ swim trunks the men wear now adays? Who ever said, "hey, those shorts you're wearing that come down below your knees...they look good on you!" Especially on the average sized man with an averaged size 30"-32" inseam?

Now that is a sorry sight to see!

I know... off topic, but just couldn't help myself.

Frankly, I like capris. They're comfy. And hopefully they don't look all that bad! On that note, I assume that's why men continue to wear those nasty long "shorts"... 'cause they certainly don't make them eyecandy!

just4kixx--I agree. I wouldn't wear those shorts. I used the word "dorky" above. Probably could use that for both "capris" and those long, below the knee, shorts.

I think ladies with the right proportions...( I did not say figures ) look terrific in Capris...much better than shorts!

Men look better in a robe from top to bottom! *S*

Just4kixx, thanks for helping. You have hit on one of the men's issues. 99% of the men who wear those long shorts look bad. Why, because it makes them look short. Now here is a secret. Men is to short, what Women is to "derrierre expansive" (sorry, I couldn't bring myself to use any of the more offensive words.)

If you went up to a 6'1" guy wearing those shorts and said "So, what are you, like 5 foot 10" he'd have a cow. I swear if he said, "No, I'm 6-2" and you responded. "Oh, I guess its those long shorts that make you look short and stubby", He's be peeling them off right before your very eyes.

Like I said in my first post. Capri, and all mid-calf pants are todays version of The Emperor's New Clothes.

Hi,
I am really just curious as to how the very simple question "capri's in the dining room" got 83 people to answer everything from capri's, to fluffy, to short, to long shorts, to tall, to Victoria's secret or cut-off tee?
We don't get this much response from booze, kids and tipping.
Good grief, I almost forgot the speedo's.

Gosh Alexis, you made me spit iced tea all over the keyboard! Thanx for the cute observation, and you're exactly right. These boards really crack me up. Just as with any party, the cruise critic 'cyber-party' has those posts who always are helpful, those who like to stir the pot, a few who appear to have started reading in the middle, a few who remain clueless, and lots of humor. You guys are so great! Gotta love these boards! Where else can you click to read about Royal Caribbean and get Vickis Secret and Speedos arguing...

Just so we're clear about where the arguments are--has ANYONE ever advocated the wearing, or the right to wear, Speedos on this board? Unlike pool chairs (there are some self-proclaimed chair 'reservers'), kids, tips (there is some guy who posts he won't tip), booze smuggling, capri pants, casual wear on formal nights, swimmy diapers, babies in the dining room, curfews, RCL v. Carnival, poofing posts, compensation for missed ports, Johnny Rockets charges, etc., where there are at least a few souls advocating for one or the other side of the issue, I don't recall ever seeing a single admitted advocate for the wearing of SPEEDOS. I know Speedos appear on board the ships, but they seem to be universally condemned on this board. Am I right? Can we ALL agree on something! BAN the SPEEDO! Burn them!!

We use to have a crazy guy in the local park where I go. He use to wear these ugly Speedo's as he roller bladed around the park while he carried a broom. Plus the guy was bald and had an ugly pale scrawny body. We called him Mr. clean. I mean you had to see this guy. We all thought he was just some weirdo. Then we found out he was a college professor. Eventually all the women in the park took up a petition and presented it to the police to force the guy to wear some decent clothes. They claimed his Speedo's were offensive to their young children.

Wow, this thread has given me my laugh for the day! I wear capris or cropped pants because they ARE cooler than long pants and I no longer feel comfortable in shorts since my thighs are covered with broken capillaries since my last pregnancy. So my question to all of you who think capris are unattractive: Would you rather see these women in shorts?

Folks, a cruise is a vacation. We go on them to relax and have fun. Does it really matter what other people are wearing as long as we ourselves are comfortable and feel appropriately dressed? I don't personally like capris myself (I'm a guy), but I doubt any dining room is ever going to refuse admittance to any woman wearing them, regardless of what the suggested attire for the evening is.

If everyone were dressed alike on a cruise, or dressed exactly the way we would dress, where would the fun be in people watching? I love to see all the different ways people dress on a cruise, even if I or my wife would never wear some of the stuff we may see.

And as to ugyvel's question above: definitely cut-off tee - the more "cut-off" the better.
;-)
