Capris pants in dining room

Recommended Posts

okay i apologize. we all got off the original posters topic with our own opinions of a particular style. like them or not yes capris would be allowed in the dining room.

cruising has gotten very relaxed in their dress code, i guess to match the rest of the world. it's a by gone era when people used to know how to dress appropriately for any given occasion. casual fridays at the bank, casual monday at the office, etc. and did you notice that the few restaurants that still require the wait staff to wear white shirts and a tie that invariably only one of their employees owns an iron

ooops there i go off the topic again, sorry.
yes capri pants would be allowed in the dining room.

Another vote against capri pants. They do look good on a select few , but if you are a little big in the bum they make it look huge!!! My 2 year old niece kept pulling at the cuff of her pants trying to get them to reach her ankles. Even she knew!!

my big "bum" happens to look great in a nice pair of capris. as with any other form of fashion you have to choose well. ex. material, lenght and size. i like them because they are so easy to dress up or down. i plan on bringing a few pair on my trip.

off topic again....to all (or i should say most ) of you people who think they look good in what they are wearing, did you ever see one of those people walking down the street and you think to yourself omg what was she thinking, doesn't she own a mirror, well...............how many people just might be thinking that about you. i've seen skin tight clothes on plus size women, i'v seen overall shorts on women that are way past their youth, (they're cute on young girls). i've seen 70 year old women in mini skirts. and very flabby women in crop tops. wear what you like but don't make yourself a laughing stock and don't convince yourself into thinking you look good, be honest about it.

oh yeah... by the way... to the person above that thinks if the pants end half way down the calf it makes your legs look longer. nope. its an old fashion trick for the tall lanky girls who want to appear shorter, wear something that cuts the solid long line. so actually it would make your legs look shorter.

Variety makes life interesting...how fun would that be if we all had the same taste in clothing...OMG...what would some of us have to talk about? I would much rather see someone in capris than a moo moo!

That would be me, the "fluffy one", with the fine and round butt (as I laughingly tell my DH when he teases me about my big one).

I do NOT wear clothes that are too tight or inappropriate for my age or size. I DO get compliments constantly on my choice of clothing, and I DO look good in capris: sized and fitted properly with a nice loose top over them.

Yeah, this thread is getting amusing.

I have a friend who's a little "fluffy". She always looks amazing! She often wears capris, and they look great on her. Some people are really good at pulling an outfit together with accessories! Very cute, a little spunky...and lots of fun...

Personally I wouldn't be caught dead wearing capri pants. My girlfriend feels the same way.

p.s. Never heard of a person described as fluffy until today.

Nothing personal but the last thing I want to see on my next cruise is anyone named bubba wearing capri pants.

"Fluffy" has been around for a while, like "vertically challenged"...hahahahaha

Speaking of bubba in capris...check out this ebay link. Copy and paste this item number in the search box, then hit search. It's absolutely hilarious. Read the WHOLE thing, look at the pics, then check out the number of hits this guy has had. Have fun!!

If you like your capris (and I do), please consider this fitting tip when choosing them:
Pants that end below the largest part of your calf will be the most flattering to your legs. Same theory works with skirts, although it can either end above or below the calf (as well as other lengths of course), but if it hits anywhere in the middle, it will make your legs look heavier. So if your capris look a little 'off', try a different length and that may solve it. I agree that some do not look good in capris, and I have a few pair in my closet that I don't like the way I look in them-I've figured out its either the length, too tight (uggh) or a busy print.
Please no flames, just a suggestion. I've been a personal shopper for 17 yrs. but we each have our own opinion It takes a very confident man to wear a speedo. Or maybe just one who needs an eye exam...

Cropped pants are a good alternative to capris, which are not flattering to all figures. Cropped lengths vary, as do their materials, so almost evey woman can find some that are flattering.

Since we're all giving our opinion on Capri pants, I guess I'll throw in my two cents:

The Capri pant is the latest version of "The Emperor's New Clothes". Few have the guts to suck it up and tell the truth. They make 97.6% of the women who wear them look like Crisco, you know, "Fat in the Can". I can't imagine that the sisterhood of women allow themselves to bold face lie to one another when they say "They look fantastic on you". Those husbands who tell you that you look good; they're just being kind.

Its a simple notion. The short pant not only fails to lenghten the woman's figure but it trains the eye to compress it. The result is that the wearer looks shorter and squater. It is also the same effect that you get when you set your TV (assuming that its a newer model) from the 4:3 format to Wide Screen, when the picture wasn't meant to be wide screen. Every human looks shorter and fatter.

Sorry to be so cruel, and its OT from the original question (BTW, they are acceptable in the Dining Room) but for the love of God, throw them away.

So, AltaJoe, tell us what you REALLY think...HA

Ummm, does your significant other, or wife, really like everything you wear? Most of us wear things that are comfy, and WE like the way they look.

I don't know about the dining room dress code since I've yet to go on my first cruise, but like many other people have mentioned, capris are not that flattering on most women. The problem is in wearing the tight, fitted version with the pant legs that cling all the way down to the calf. I think if the capris have a straight leg styling with no cling then they'd probably flatter more women. Plus, if you're short, they only shorten the body even more. I think they look great on tall, thin women, but not all of us are shaped that way. However, you asked about whether or not they were good for the dining room and I can't be of any help there. Heh.

Liztoybiz, I agree with what you've said and with that, I've decided to shorten mine to a more flattering length. Thanks for the comments.

Re: e-Bay. This is one of the funniest links ever! Had to send it to all my e-mail buddies. Can it be for real??
Used to be "fluffy" & another expression I love is "it's like putting a marshmallow in a piggy bank". Still love my cropped pants & can't believe we have so many fashion gurus here. The poster who brought up fit & fabric is right on the mark. There are all shapes for these pants & all seem to be lumped [no pun intended] under the word "capri" here.

I also think we've got differing mental images of what a pair of capri pants looks like. That's why the differing opinions.

I was the one that posted the "ebay funny". Yes, it's for real, and so hilarious! I started a new thread with it so the other folks on these boards could get a laugh, too, but the board police pulled it. Not related enough to cruising. I also sent it on to as many people I could. DH says it's great free advertising for ebay (as if they need it..hah!).

Sooooooooooo funny. I loved the tattoos. Such a glamorous touch!
