vacruisin Posted April 4, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2010 DW and I will be flying into FLL for our 3 July sailing on the Freedom. As of now, we have paid for the transfer from the airport to the pier. Roundtrip cost for transfers with Carnival is $30/pp. Our flight gets in to FLL about 10:00 on sailing day. My question is about how much will it cost us to take a taxi to the pier? We have done the transfers with the cruiseline on all of our other 3 past cruises and it's not about the cost but we have sometimes had to wait awhile before the bus fills up before we are transported to the pier. We are thinking we'd rather just grab a cab and get to the pier as soon as possible so that we can get in line earlier for boarding.
iamsteph Posted April 4, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2010 It's been a few years, but I think it was like $30 for the taxi. I would say take the taxi anyways. I hate hate HATE the carnival transfers.
matj2000 Posted April 4, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 4, 2010 Approx $20. As of 2 weeks ago. If you ask them at the taxi stand, thats what they will tell you..

Travalot Posted April 4, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 4, 2010 We took a taxi two weeks ago from the pier to the airport. The meter was $14.90 and we gave the driver $18.00. There was no wait at all. It was MUCH more convenient than loading a bus and waiting at various terminals.
semichigan Posted April 4, 2010 #6 Share Posted April 4, 2010 We are using SAS transportation - $13 per person because there are 6 of us - otherwise it would be $15 per person. Found out about them on the "ports" boards where they got good reviews. (This is for FLL to the Port of Miami - not sure what the cost is to Ft Lauderdale)
ricktwo Posted April 4, 2010 #7 Share Posted April 4, 2010 Shouldn't be more than $15 on the meter, and that is calculating a long line at the exit ramp (which happens rarely, only on 7-8-9 ship day at Port Everglades). Carnival transfer sounds way too steep for me. Take the cab, you'll be happy you did (both ways).
jayscore Posted April 5, 2010 #8 Share Posted April 5, 2010 The Carnival "Cattle Car"? Never again! Take a cab!;)
Uncle Deane Posted April 5, 2010 #9 Share Posted April 5, 2010 CAB! You can almost see the ships from the airport! No need to subject yourself to the bus ride for such a short trip. Enjoy your cruise!
Langley Cruisers Posted April 5, 2010 #10 Share Posted April 5, 2010 I can understand the "secure" feeling one might have by booking a transfer through the cruise line. However, in this case, the Fort Lauderdale airport and Port Everglades cruise ship terminal are really just minutes apart. Our metered fare was $11.30 for two people - we gave him $15.00. If you can get your money back on the transfers, obviously that would be advised. $60.00 will buy you a lot of things, but a cab to the pier for 2 people should not be one of them. ;)
royalcruz Posted April 5, 2010 #11 Share Posted April 5, 2010 The Carnival Freedom sails from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, barely a couple of miles from FLL. That's terrible that Carnival has the audacity to charge $30pp for what would be a $15 total cab ride, and that means that you have to go looking for their shuttle. Just hop in a taxi...so convenient!

Langley Cruisers Posted July 17, 2011 #14 Share Posted July 17, 2011 Just get in line and grab the cab. There is no specific company to use.
