Which Day Pass???

We just got back Wednesday off of the Fantasy, was in Nassau on Monday and took a taxi to the Sheraton, 5 dollars per person, 4 of us. I wanted to try the bus, which has been mentioned several times.....while on the way in the taxi, probably met 3 or 4 #10's, I kept pointing them out to my family who were not comfortable getting on the bus..........after getting to the Sheraton we walked around and checked out the pool and beach, and made sure we wanted to spend the 25 pp, looked great so I went to check us in. 25 pp for adults and half that for under 12..........our kids are 14 and 17 and the lady cut us a deal and still only charged us half for the kids. They offered us the room for 99 but we declined, put the wrist bands on us and we were off to the beach, some nasty looking clouds came up with a couple of funnel clouds out of one of them, but everything stayed off shore, we wound up leaving around one, daughters wanted to see Atlantis again, so we caught a taxi from Sheraton to Atlantis, 27 dollars for 4 which would have been better than 5 each back to ship and another 4 each from ship to Atlantis........We walked around there for a couple hours, got a look at the aquarium from the other side of the casino.......I would still try the #10 jitney, I saw one looked like it was loaded with tourist.........Learned everything from this post, thanks for everyone who take the time to post......one other note, I snorkeled also, get the equipment just show them the wrist band from the white tent on the beach, guy told me to see fish to go out to the rocks.......there were plenty of fish, I was really surprised how many......the equipment was not great and no fins, if you have your own take it, but overall a good deal for the price, especially considering what you can pay at other places......grab you a couple boxes of cereal off the ship (its prepackaged) for a snack and you will be ready for lunch when you get back.

Hi there,

Thanks for all the great info. I am taking my first solo cruise next month and although I have been to Nassau twice before on cruises, I wondered if it will feel safe enough to go one of the resorts like Sheraton for the day by myself. I have no problem taking the jitney, my ship arrives at 1pm and I wondered if it would be worth it to go there for the 4 hours or better to just walk around and go to the Pirate museum. The first time I was in Nassau my friend and I went on the Ghost tour at night and it was kind of creepy walking back to the ship later by ourselves. Day time feels pretty safe, I just wondered your opinion of being safe on my own. Thanks!

I am not sure about that, we walked up with our 4 people and I just ask how much to get to Atlantis, and he said 27....maybe someone else can help....I know they pay a dollar to cross the bridge onto paradise island, I wasn't sure how they came up with 27, some times I think it might be what they think you will pay.....If they throw a big number you are not willing to pay catch one of the buses back down town and then hop a cab over to Atlantis. Hope this helps a little.....and no they do not charge by the distance (no meter running on any I took)

Thanks for your post. That is my plan for Nassau too, except I want to have lunch at the fish fry. Just a question though. Do taxis charge for the distance, or for the amount of people? You had said $27 for 4 people to get to Atlantis from the Sheraton. Is it less for 2 people?

Here's the current taxi rates.. the base rate is for 2 ppl. ea add'l person is $3 on top of that.. going over the bridge to Paradise island (Atlantis) there's an add'l $1 toll per vehicle.

A tip is expected as well.

We won't be going to Nassau until Dec. 16th. At that time of year is it worth going to the beach. This is the 1st time we will be in Nassau that we have enough time to go to beach. I appreciate any advice I can get.

The air and water temperatures are still warm in December in Nassau.

  • 3 weeks later...

Well I was originally planning to visit Blue Lagoon (on our own) but some of these options sounds really really good!!! As our last (full) day on the cruise and last port a really nice beach is CRUCIAL! (as I will be heading back to cold Canada the next day so need to soak up as much sun as possible to keep me going thru the rest of the winter! :D:D).

Will be visiting and reviewing some of these options as we get closer to finalizing our plans. Thanks to everyone for the great information and 'feedback'!

This has been a very informative thread! I will be in Nassau in mid December and think I have it narrowed down to either BCH or Atlantis for a day pass. I was there last year around the same time and I did Atlantis so I am leaning towards BCH. I am too scared to use the water slides so all I really need is a beach. Anyway, my question is in regards to the day pass. If I purchase 2 adult day passes at the Hilton do I then get 2 vouchers for $30.00 or do I just get 1?

Thanks for the help!

Wow, you guys are quick! Thank you for the fast response. Sounds like that is a pretty good deal. Would you recommend pre-ordering from that website or just do it in person once in port?

I contacted BCH directly, and they said that if you buy the pass in advance, through island marketing, you save $5, so it's $50pp, which includes the $30pp food and beverage credit. If you buy on the day of, at the hotel, it's $55pp.

Hope this helps! :)

Hello Everyone,

I just found all these postings. I am going on the Majesty in November, solo. I wanted to check out Atlantis. Royal Caribbean's excursion is $152.00 to use the water slides and tour The Dig. Are you saying it is better to go book a room somewhere else so you can go over to Atlantis? I'm a little confused. I am also a little leary of going off by myself and I'm thinking it would be safer to go with the tour. What do you think? Thanks for any info. I appreciate it.

Depending on how many are in your party, and the rate at that time, it is sometimes cost effective to either book a room at Atlantis or the Comfort Suites (which has an agreement with Atlantis) to get full access to Atlantis for the day.

Each room allows up to 4 ppl (2 in the base price and 2 for add'l charges, surcharges etc.). Sometimes it comes out cheaper, sometimes not.

Check in and out at the front desk at the same time, get your room card and bring it to the towel hut.. you'll get up to 4 bracelets for use of the property.

$152 is alot to pay for a $110 pass. You can purchase same day passes at Atlantis front desk as well.. Taxi's are just $4pp.

Keep in mind, if you are going for Thanksgiving..all bets are off.. it's crowded and day passes are likely to be restricted for purchase..

So you would have to buy on the ship, or book a rooms.. which i'm assuming would be hard to do at this point for the holiday.

hope this helps!

Thanks scubagirrl!

I am travelling alone, so I don't think the hotel route would be best for me. I am not travelling over Thanksgiving. I will call Atlantis and see what they sell their day passess for. Would I be okay doing a taxi by myself? Thanks!

Traveling by cab is fine for a single.. but I must warn you. Atlantis customer service is rarely correct. They may tell you that there are passes available..and then you get there and they aren't selling them that day.

If atlantis is important to you over a holiday week, or during any high season week.. it's best to buy your passes thru the cruiseship.... or have a back up plan if you are turned away.

Atlantis may look like paradise, but it's far from it when it comes to service and correct information ..

Hi! Can you please tell me if it is cheaper to ask for a day room at the CS rather than booking a room online for an overnight stay?

Thanks so much!

Scubagirrl,

My husband and I will be in Nassau on 9/21 (Carnival Fascination). We've been there several times, always doing something different. This time we wanted to try to find some quiet beach time, close to the ship and having food available. Thanks to your valuable responses - I'm impressed at how you calmly repeat yourself over and over! - we've decided on the BCH day pass. You have described exactly what we were looking for, and your pictures were wonderful, including the stingrays. Now I'll keep my fingers crossed for good weather!

We stopped in Nassau on Carnival Fascination last week. The ship was in port 12pm-10pm. We had booked the day room at the Sheraton, $99 total for the two of us. We got off the boat and got a free map in the welcome center at the port. We walked down Bay St. to George Street to pick up the #10 Jitney. We waited only around 5 minutes, but the bus didn't stop when it came by... we had to chase it almost a block and wave it down! We told the driver where we were headed. The bus ride was around 15 minutes or so (air conditioned), and the driver was calling out the stops so it was easy to know where you were. We gave the driver $3 for the 2 of us, and walked across the street and up the driveway to the Sheraton. Someone else on the bus was trying to go to the Wyndham next door, but the driver said it was temporarily closed for low season.

Checking in was quick, although our key initially didn't work and we had to go back to the desk. By the time we were all set to go to the beach and pool, it was around 1:15.

We had decent weather, sunshine mixed with clouds and temps in the 80's. Unfortunately there was some rough surf due to remnants of Hurricane Earl, so the beach was closed for swimming. In hind site, the water looked calmer at the British Colonial Hilton while we were pulling into the port... that area is more protected. But, there is no way to predict that when you are booking in advance! There were a ton of beach chairs, and most of them were empty. We dipped our toes in the water at the beach, and then spent most of the day by the big pool & pool bar. There are several pools to enjoy at the Sheraton... since it is apparently low season the pools were fairly empty... only around 15-20 people hanging around the main pool. There was a DJ playing music, but it wasn't very loud. Towels were available by the pool, you just had to give your room number and make sure you returned them to the towel hut.

We had lunch at the Dolphin Grill by the pool... a cheeseburger and fries was $13... a little pricey, but the food was good. We had a few drinks at Edgewater Bar, I think the mixed drinks were $7.25 or so.

The lifeguard packed up around 5pm. We headed back to the room shortly before 6, and took showers before heading back to the ship. The hotel provided shampoo, conditioner, soap, and a hair dryer. We checked out just before 7 (they told us the room was available until 7). The jitney had stopped at that point, but there were cabs waiting at the bottom of the driveway. The hotel porter whistled for a cab, and they told us it would be $15 to go back to the port. The driver was nice, we gave him $20 when we arrived at the port and back to the ship we went!

I thought the beach and pools were nice, I was just disappointed by the rough surf. I was satisfied with lunch. The hotel is nice, and the rooms were decent. The bed didn't seem very comfortable, but it didn't matter since we weren't staying overnight. If we were staying longer I would have liked a fridge in the room, but they didn't have them. Our room was a garden room on the first floor... if we were staying longer I would have preferred a room on a higher floor with a view.. but it served its purpose. The rooms have flat screen TV's, and we were happy to have the Weather Channel to track Earl before we left since it was heading north toward home (no Weather Channel on the ship). They did have bathrooms available by the pool, but I'm not sure if there is a place to change if you don't have a room. We didn't get a chance to check out the casino.

Scubagirl,

We'll be in Port on Wed Dec 8, 8-5 and it looks like there will be 4 other ships in port with us. We are planning on doing the Atlantis Day pass directly, but are concerned about that many ships being there.

We would spend most of our time on the Lazy River, because we have yet to find one that has rapids as well as waves. But there are two in the group that wanted to try the big slide at least once, will it be over crowded?

Is the river and slides fresh or salt water?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Depends what you think is crowded. I think everyday is crowded there.. but that's just me.

It's a week before the holiday season starts, so you won't have as many guests, but you will have cruisers flooding the place.

You'll get on the big slides at some point, lines shouldn't be that bad.

Water is salt water... but filtered and processed.
