OBC from a move-over offer

We accepted a move-over offer last year and have a substantial OBC (close to $8000) applied to the new sailing. Since this is more than we could ever spend onboard, we have been assured again and again by both Princess customer service and by the Inventory control manager who handles move-overs that the OBC is fully refundable. However, I'm nervous that once onboard, the purser's desk will refuse to give us back whatever we don't spend. I've asked the Inventory manager to put it in writing that it's refundable, but she hasn't done that (yet).

My question is for anyone who accepted a moveover offer - did you have a problem getting the OBC refunded at the end of the cruise?

WOW! Just have to say that is the largest amount of OBC that I have ever seen from a move over offer. It's HUGE!

Although we have never received one of these offers, I have read many posts from those that received the excess at the end of the cruise refunded to them.

Just a tip. If you get very nervous about this refundable amount, remember, you can take it out in the casino and it will be deducted from your account, and then just cash in. 3% charge if done at the cage (so much per day), or no service charge if taken out in the slots and then cashed in. ;)

WOW!!! That is an enormous amount of OBC. Are you sure you didn't add a 0 on the end. In any event you may or may not be able to get a cash refund. If they tell you that you ncan at the pursers desk get it in writing from the chief purser. Another way of getting cash is to use the casino slots. You can insert your card and order an amount (up to $100 or $150 depending on the machine) at a time. However you can just order 5 x$100 and get it in cash from the cage. Do this every day and you will be assured of getting the cash.

Great advice from Toto. Me, I would buy something really special in the Facets Jewelry Store and have a memorable gift from the cruise you are taking as a reminder that you took advantage of a great offer!! Have fun with this dilemma!!

WOW! Are they saying they will send you something in writing and not following through? i would keep on them because that is a lot of money. The casino and facets ideas sound good though just to be sure. Take one of the luxury excursions, eat in the specialty restaurants every night, book the sanctuary for the week, get multiple spa treatments. Man, I could do damage to that amount of OBC!

I am a little confused on your OBC of that amount  You have only cruised once with Princess in Aug 2008 and your review spoke nothing of a move over OBC and you stated that that was your 1st Princess cruise and because you were not satisfied overall, you weren't sure you would ever sail on Princess again.

I was trying to figure out how you got that big of a OBC, so I could try and obtain the same

I was on Azamara in Europe and missed a couple of days due to their error in booking our connecting flights to close to eachother. We receive 2 days of shipboard credits, and did not use all of it. We were given a credit on our credit card within 3 days of arriving home. Hopefully Princess does the same.

That post said a mover-over 10 months before which makes no sense as final was not made that far out. The cruise could not possibly be full at that point, unless it was cancelled. But $8000 sounds like an awful lot to me.

If I remember correctly, it had something to do with switching the cruise to another date, something that isn't often done on princess. But the OP will have to come back on this thread and fill us in, as that was all my search could find. ;)

We were booked on the Sun to Australia about two years ago. It was cancelled and all we got was $250 each for Princess "Goodwill" and we were able to book a simillar trip on the Dawn at the same rate.

Hard to believe anyone could get an $8000 OBC. I think there may be one too many "0"s there.

Not to sound dumb, but just what is a "move over" offer:confused:

Bob

When the ship is close to the sailing date and Princess is unable to assign some cabins to people who have booked "guaranty" cabins, then Princess will start bribing people with confirmed cabins to "move over" to a different sailing so that Princess can give those with guaranteed cabins their cabin assignments.

The bribes may start small and grow larger until they get enough people to accept them. Usually there will be at least an upgrade involved to a different type of cabin (outside to balcony, for example) and some OBC. Some people have reported even getting one or both passengers' entire cruise fare back as OBC when Princess really, really needed their cabins.

I never said that I wasn't satisfied with Princess and would never sail with them again. Read my review again....I siad that while RCI is my preferred cruiseline, we loved our Princess cruise and felt it provided an equivalent cruising experience to RCI, and would certainly cruise with them again. Are you sure you weren't reading my Carnival review instead? Because we were strongly dissatisfied with that cruise and will never sail Carnival again.

We booked the CB for July 2009. 6 people in 3 balcony cabins. We paid $1300 per person = $7800

Three days prior to the sailing, Princess sent us an email that they were overbooked on that sailing and wanted to make us an offer for our cabins. So, I called the number. If we agreed to move-over to the same itinerary/ship for anytime in 2010, they would upgrade us to mini-suites and refund our full purchase price as OBC (refundable). So, we now have 3 minisuite cabins with $2600 OBC on each of them.

Read the post again. I said that the cruise we moved over to was 10 months after the original cruise for which we received the offer. In other words, we received the offer because we delayed our trip 10 months. (it was actually closer to 12 months)

Another thought, have yoou checked your cruise personalizer to see if the $8000  is in there?

If you are entering into a contract for a lot of money, it is a good idea to get that in writing BEFORE you agree to the terms.

I have the amount in writing. It's listed on my invoice as an OBC, but it doesn't say refundable or not.

Donna I don't think you have to explain yourself. Its really nobody's business what the details are. ;)

Thanks Colo...I was a little taken aback by all the naysayers and disbelievers, and especially by those who twisted around or misunderstood what I wrote in my review or in other posts.

On Monday, I'm going to email the inventory manager and get in writing that the OBC is refundable so I wont have any problems on the ship.

No disbelief here. I know some of these move over offers are FABULOUS, FANTASTIC, ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE (you get the picture ;)). I remember something about you being asked to cancel your cruise and move it ahead, but since I figured it was up to you if you wanted to explain in full, previous posts were all I was going to offer towards an explanation, as that would be up to you if you wanted to.

Have a great 'delayed' cruise, and enjoy that shipboard credit. ;)

Thanks Toto...I remember that you (and Colo) were the ones who helped me to select the minisuites on Emerald deck when the offer was made to us last year, so I knew you believed me.

I was glad to read your earlier post that you've read reviews from people who had no problem getting their excess OBC refunded. That's exactly the info I was looking for when I started this thread.
