Tipping?

Recommended Posts

I know that gratuities are included in the price you pay on RSSC, but on other cruises where that is the case, there still is some "expectation" of a little something extra. On our last HAL cruise where they "ding" you the gratuities every day, with discussions from other passengers, it was expected that your dining room servers and cabin stewart should get a little extra. So what about Regents? Will most people give their cabin stewart an extra reward? We don't want to make a boo-boo so need some answers. Thanks.

Generally, tips are neither expected nor offered on Regent, except to the spa operator who is an independent contractor. Instead, they are included in your fare. Those guests who want to do something extra for the crew generally donate to the crew fund, which provides benefits for the crew.

It is my understanding that the new spa (Canyon Ranch) does include tips (thus the high prices). I agree completely with what you stated about tipping.

Last time we cruised Regent, we simply went to the registration desk and asked about it. We donated to the crew fund there.

In keeping with Regent's "tips included" policy, the existence and nature of the crew fund is not given publicity on the ship. So it is one of those things you must ask about to discover.

I also donate to the Crew Fund -- and happily so because ALL of the employees deserve to share it, because ALL of them worked together to make sure ALL of my time was so enjoyable.

In addition, I suggest you frequent the bingo game when possible because that is not a profit making venture for the ship itself. Instead, the crew runs it, sells the cards and then a percentage of the sales gets put into the Crew Fund for them to share (the balance of card sales goes back to the winning players):D

The spa and casino are concessions and their employees are not covered by Regent's included gratuities. Canyon Ranch (spa) prices do include an appropriate gratuity; tip casino employees as you would in a land-based operation.

I"m with dfb. There is NO expectation of extra tips.

And I am of the opinion that they shouldn't be given. It's one of the things I like about the line--it's included.

Of course except in the spa (but that's gone away now that the tips are included as well.) I don't gamble so the casino's not an issue for me.
