We are arriving into Venice early October 2011 by Princess (Ocean Princess).

Looking for help with these queries please :

Advice on good medium priced hotel in Venice proper that can be easily accessed from the Cruise Terminal preferably by land taxi and then walk, or land taxi then water taxi (and walk if required) ? Location in Venice proper which would be within walking distance of major attractions . Prefer smaller family operated Pension or Hotel .

Thanks in advance .

After much research I have just booked Ca' del Nobile which is next to San Marco square. The price compared to most of the hotels I looked at was excellent. If you are using tripadviser, try searching B & Bs rather than hotels and you will find smaller hotels at more reasonable prices

The only area accessible by land taxi is around Piazzale Roma.

Private water taxis are quite expensive , about 100e . The vaporetto system(water bus) is the public transportation system.

The whole city is small and walkable so any area would be good.

Trip Advisor has a map function where you can see the hotel/B&B locations on a map.

Some of the smaller hotels/B&Bs do not have elevators so if steps are an issue then be aware of this.

One small B&B(but more like a boutique hotel) where I have stayed is Ca Angeli. They have their own dock if you choose to take a water taxi instead of the water bus. They also have an elevator and great service.

We stayed at Ca' Doge in Piazzale Roma in Venice. We were there on a driving trip and wanted to be able to park the car nearby. It has its own car park. No elevator if that is an issue for you.

Here are the reviews from tripadvisor.com

Moderate price in Venice is probably fairly high anyplace else.

I second the motion for Ca' Angeli. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. We reviewed it on trip advisor. Pricier than the cheapest hotels but half the price of the most expensive. Close to Rialto. On the grand Canal, great breakfast, next door to Guido Brunetti's apartment. Walkable from Piazzal Roma (with a bridge or 2). Best access is by water taxi which delivers you to the door. Water taxis are almost always shared. They then become well worth the price.

We stayed at the Locanda Orseolo and highly recommend it, it's as good as its reviews on Trip Advisor and Cruise Critic say it is. It's just a few steps from St Mark's Square and will gurantee you a canal front room if you want, which we thought was really important. It's small (12 rooms) and beautifully run by the Peruch family. From the airport, we took the water bus and then dragged our luggage through the square and over a bridge, it's doable but frankly we thought it was too much work wnen we are on vacation. So we hired a private water taxi to the ship, it was stress free and a lovely ride through our canal and the Grand Canal, to us it was well worth the 90 euros for door to door service.
