Cuizer2 Posted May 14, 2010 #76 Share Posted May 14, 2010 Where is it announced? Sounds like another rumor. I got it via an e-mail from Princess ... We’re pleased to announce that an additional Traditional Dining seating is now available on your upcoming voyage. The new seating time at 5:30 pm is in response to the high demand we’ve received for our 6:00 pm seating, and will be offered in a separate dining room. If you wish to change your current dining selection to the new 5:30 pm Traditional seating time, please contact your travel agent to book, as space is limited. Thank you and we look forward to welcoming you aboard soon! So, if it is a rumor, the rumor was started by Princess itself.
Cuizer2 Posted May 14, 2010 #77 Share Posted May 14, 2010 We always have late seating anyway. Who the heck wants to eat at 5:15? My guess would be those that don't want to eat at 8:00pm.

Colo Cruiser Posted May 14, 2010 #81 Share Posted May 14, 2010 Why is it a mess? On ships with three dining rooms, one of the Anytime dining rooms can be used for Early Fixed seating. There's almost always a huge line anyway when Anytime starts, filled with people who want to eat early. Now they'll be able to do just that, without the need to be escorted to whichever table is available. I see it as a win-win. The ships with three anytime dining rooms are a mess already, why would adding another time 45 minutes before the old time causing overlap from the new early time possibly be a better solution?
Cuizer2 Posted May 14, 2010 #82 Share Posted May 14, 2010 Cruising was so much easier when the only Dining options to consider were Early (1st) or Late (2nd) Traditional Dining. But unlike some we always choose Early Traditional. Works for us. We live in a complex world.
Cuizer2 Posted May 14, 2010 #83 Share Posted May 14, 2010 I find it very hard to believe that a lot of people want 5:30pm fixed dining. It is a better choice than 5:30pm broken dining. :D

DonnaK Posted May 14, 2010 #85 Share Posted May 14, 2010 The ships with three anytime dining rooms are a mess already, why would adding another time 45 minutes before the old time causing overlap from the new early time possibly be a better solution? Because there are people who didn't clear the waitlist for early dining and were forced into anytime. Now they will have an assignment, which will allieviate the congestion in the anytime room. On my last cruise, we were over 600 on the wait list. We waited for the anytime room to open, along with hundreds of others in our situation, in order to simulate the traditional dining experience (to have the same table/waiter, since the maitre-d would not accept reservations). This was a huge mess that will no longer be, if all those wanting early traditional can get it.
Colo Cruiser Posted May 14, 2010 #86 Share Posted May 14, 2010 Because there are people who didn't clear the waitlist for early dining and were forced into anytime. Now they will have an assignment, which will allieviate the congestion in the anytime room. How so? They will still be there when the next seating arrives. :( They are not adding more space just trying to cram more into the room shortly before more arrive. Feelin' Nauti' Posted May 14, 2010 #88 Share Posted May 14, 2010 Where is it announced? Sounds like another rumor. Nope! Not a rumor. What a mess. :eek:I agree! Early bird dinners here we come. Reminds me of my folks. As they got older their dining time got earlier and earlier. Mom used to say she wanted to get it over with. Only good thing about it is, you don't have to be a old folk ;) to take advantage of it. :p
Feelin' Nauti' Posted May 14, 2010 #89 Share Posted May 14, 2010 Not a lot of difference between 5:30 and 6:00 ... I wonder if this will pose a logistics issue with guests funneling into the dining room at two overlapping times. At the very least, it could be disruptive to the service and normal atmosphere of the venue. Might not make a difference, since the folks who like to have the early bird dinner don't really eat much anyway. ;)

DonnaK Posted May 14, 2010 #97 Share Posted May 14, 2010 How so? They will still be there when the next seating arrives. :( They are not adding more space just trying to cram more into the room shortly before more arrive. Because they are using space in one of the anytime rooms. The traditional people can walk right in to their table, instead of standing in line with the anytimers. In the old system, these traditionalists would have been forced into anytime dining because they didn't clear the wait list, so they would be contributing to the congestion outside the anytime dining room. On our last CB cruise, it was a total nightmare. By 6:15, the anytime wait was 45 minutes or longer because so many people who wanted traditional and were waitlisted became anytimers. (We were over 600 on the waiting list). Now, these people would have assigned seats, and would be out of the dining room around 7-ish, allieviating the lines for the anytimers.
