Best night for Spec Dining on Bermuda Itin.

Want to book our Specialty Dining on Summit, just wonderring if anyone has thoughts on the best night of the week for this.

 

Also, on sailaway from Bermuda on Thursday, is there a specific evening "deck party" that might be missed if we decide to book that night.

My family is sailing to Bermuda on Summit in August and I gave this matter some thought. In the end there really is not a bad time to eat in the specialty restaurant but we only intend to go once during that sailing so I tried to figure out which night would be "best".

 

I prefer not to do the specialty restaurant on a formal night, or on the first or last night of a cruise. Right there that rules out Sun, Mon, Fri, and Sat nights which leaves Tue (at sea), Wed (Bermuda), and Thu (Bermuda).

 

In the past we have done the specialty restaurant on a sea day to give us something to look forward to. If we went with that philosophy then Tuesday would be the day to make the reservation.

 

But for our first Bermuda cruise I ended up booking the reservation for Wed--our first day at Bermuda because:

 

1. we have main seating and booking the restaurant later in the evening of a port day allows us the flexibility of not having to rush back to the ship so quickly.

 

2. the casino and shops are closed on board the ship and so having a long meal at the Normandie is just the ticket to fill the void in the evening.

 

3. that evening is nestled perfectly in between the two formal nights (Mon & Fri) and would give a nice alternating casual/formal/casual/formal etc schedule for us (I am counting the Specialty Restaurant night as formal).

 

One drawback that I am aware of regarding the above logic is that the Harbor Night celebration occurs on Wed nights. We intend to pass on that, but I wanted you to be aware of it. Also there are some shore excursions that happen in the evening (e.g. Fantasea Night Snorkel) that would also conflict with this. Something to think about.

We just returned from the Summit at the begining of the month. We dined at the Normandie on the last night leaving Bermuda (thursday) and also the last night of the cruise (Saturday)

 

If we had it to do over again I would have dined there the first night in Bermuda (wednesday) because the menu that night was not very good IMO.

 

I am so glad that we chose to dine there the last night, it was an excellent way to end our cruise.

Do you recall the main dr offerings for that night (Wed)? We usually take a break one night on the cruise to eat at the limited buffet or do room service--this might be the night! As an alternate, are there places in the port area open for burgers or light dinner on these nights ? seems the ship may be a bit quiet!!

I'm wondering if the menu is not that good on Wednesday because a lot of people go to Harbor Night.

It is Harbor Nights that is not so terrific. We went this past week, had a helluva time getting on the ferry(both ways) with a helluva wait both time and, as someone else has said, this was a flea market(mostly jewelry) with music. A baton twirling troop did entertain and did a great job in really fun costumes and there was a Gombey(spelling?) who walked around and did dance. I am not sure it was worth missing dinner as we just ate in Waterfall Grille and were not impressed.

That's interesting. If I do go, I wondering if its better to do it through the ship? I know it's $27 but I wonder if it's the same ferry that everyone takes. If so, it's definitely not worth it, but if it's a private vehicle, then it would be worth it to me anyway.

I don't know about the ship running an excursion. We had a 2-day bus/ferry pass and that is how we got there and came back. Long wait for ferry both ways. Hopefully, the Harbor Nights will get better as the summer goes on. I do believe in supporting the local economy.

I just booked it thru the ship. It's something I want to see and hope it does improve. Paying the $27 and not having to deal with crowds to and from is worth it to me (hopefully that is how it will be).

My son just returned and I have the daily planners. The formal nights were Monday and Friday.

 

On Thursday the show was a xylophone virtuoso and at 10:30 there was Sizzle on the pool deck a scintillating Latin event with a fusion of Celebrity Dancers.
