eal Posted June 14, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2010 Boston hotels are outragous. These 2 hotels are about 5 minute cab ride to the port. Holiday Inn on Beacon Hill and Omni Parker House on Tremont St. Omni usually has specials. There is also the Harborside Inn, which is a small place. Also the John Jeffries House, small but affordable. Actually every thing is Boston proper is 5 or 10 minutes by taxi to the pier. If you want to be out of Boston proper with a 20 minute cab ride to the pier, please post again. Something in Cambridge might be more affordable. Rare printingchick Posted June 14, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2010 The Best Western Round House is very nice and quite affordable. With AAA rates, you can get a nice suite for less than $200/night. Granted, that's not INEXPENSIVE, but for a big city like Boston, it's pretty reasonable. When I stayed there, the parking was free, they had a nice continental breakfast and free shuttle service available to various parts of the city. lovemylab Posted June 14, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 14, 2010 John Jeffries House is affordable and right across the street from the Charles/MGH T station. Another option is priceline. We've stayed in several Boston hotels through Priceline and never paid more than $100/night.

We've stayed in several Boston hotels through Priceline and never paid more than $100/night. I agree, use Priceline. Boston hotels are very high as we learned when we did a Jewel OTS repo a few years ago. We were VERY VERY fortunate that our roll call group kept looking for deals and Expedia listed one of the original Ritz room categories for 48 dollars (comparing the other categories it was obviously meant to be listed for 480)..long story short...THEY HONORED IT, and about 10 of us stayed in old luxury for a Motel 6 price, right across from the Commons and just kiddy corner from the original "Cheers" bar. (I don't think that is a Ritz anymore..there is a more modern one close by). We simply loved Boston. Even though it was late October, we were blessed with 70 degree weather and took a whole day to walk the Freedom Trail. Stayed two nites and then sailed on November 1, 2005 for an incredible 12 niter on the Jewel OTS (Quite a beautiful ship). Mitch

Aviator of the Seas Posted June 14, 2010 #8 Share Posted June 14, 2010 I stayed here pre and post my 2008 Canada/New England cruise. It is inexpensive, clean and hip. Rooms are VERY SMALL (with normal sized bathrooms, tho), but I cannot emphasize its central location enough. http://charlesmarkhotel.com/
Cruise_Couple Posted June 14, 2010 #9 Share Posted June 14, 2010 The Omni Parker House, although not budget priced, is one of the best hotels in Boston in our opinion. Excellent location and staff. History and ambiance all in one. We have stayed there many times and will continue to do so (we have booked a suite for our upcoming July vacation there). I realize not everyone can afford the expense (we really can't either but we "rationalize" it) but this is a case where you really do get what you pay for... excellence and comfort! DFD1 Posted June 14, 2010 Author #10 Share Posted June 14, 2010 Thanks, everyone, so much! I've been working priceline for several days with no luck. I'll take your suggestions and work with those. Thanks again!

Would probably book without priceline liked it so much! Great location, staff, really nice bars, restaurant, nice people to talk to - rooms a little small, but really nice
jd10367 Posted June 15, 2010 #12 Share Posted June 15, 2010 The nice thing about Boston is that it's easily accessible due to their train system, the MBTA (a/k/a "the T"). So you can stay out of downtown and still get around. Even with that, though, it's expensive. For example, the Holiday Inn on Beacon Street in Brookline is $275-300 per night, and it's NOT a fancy hotel. The Royal Sonesta, just on the Cambridge side of the head of the Charles (near the Museum of Science) is $300+. I would definitely consider looking around, even as far as Allston/Brighton (west end of the Green lines) or Quincy (southeast end of the Red line) or even up in Medford (north end of the Orange line). The train is only a couple of bucks, so you can ride it into town and see the sights. Also, the T has expanded to a new Silver Line (electric bus). This goes from South Station over to Logan Airport, but it also branches off and goes to the Black Falcon terminal which is where the Jewel docks. The wife and I live down in Rhode Island near a commuter rail ("purple line") station, and we're booked on the Jewel for a few weeks before you (the 10/2 sailing), and we just plan on taking the train to South Station and then over to the ship. So if you don't mind lugging your bags you can even take the T to the ship instead of shelling out for a taxi.
bubbie617 Posted June 15, 2010 #13 Share Posted June 15, 2010 When we were there a couple of years ago, we got a 2 star hotel on Priceline. It was basic but clean and located near a T stop. It was just outside of Boston near the Kennedy Library and they hotel had a shuttle to and from the T. Keep checking Priceline. We did very well. Also includes things like free parking and shuttles to and from airport and cruise term. Hope this helps - Shagdancer
