Millie Food (1-30-05) no longer Premuim

Just got back from Millie 1/30/05.

It's still an incredible line, and incredible ship, everyone had a wonderful vacation, but sadly the food was not premuim.

The meat selections were better, but pasta and fish were very average. Edible, but not premuim. I had much better food on 2 previous Millie and Constellation cruises.

According to our Waiter(s), a nu menu was put in place in the nu year, and it isn't there yet.

The buffets were outstanding, especially the Sushi Bar(s), but I'd now have to say Holland America, overall, has better food.

On the positive side, their Thalloss Pool is still the best, and there are so few announcements on board that it creates a very relaxed premuim cruise.

However, Conceirge Class, other than getting the largest non-suite rooms, is

nothing special, and be careful of 8th n 9th floor balconies. There's no noise, but a huge overhang also means NO SUN. Stick to the 6th n 7th floors.

hi JC:) sorry your food wasn't as good as before.......sounds like you had a good time though!

I sailed on HAL in September....then on Constellation in December. In my opinion, X's food won hands down.

I guess the food varies from ship to ship.

I am going on Century next month........and I hope it is as good as I remember:)

We were also on the 30 Jan sailing of the Mille. We thought the food was good and if we ever had a problem we were offered replacement meals-very seldom hear of that in a resturant. Our waiter also brought additional servings of everything from main course to deserts, often without being asked. The deserts weren't always our cup of tea-too bland for our taste. Typical european pastry, looks wonderful, tastes only okay. Of course there were exceptions. As always, the taste of food is very subjective.

We had deck 7, an aft cabin. The guitarist on the deck 10 aft bar could be heard in our cabin with the door shut. His first set of the first day was good, after that, we wished we could pull the plug on him. Too loud, too much repeating. I don't now how the folks in the aft deck 9 cabins could hear themselves think.

We have a deck 9 aft cabin on the Constellation in September going to New England. Maybe it will be cool enough so that the guitar player will move inside where we had seen him before.

Since you heard the guitarist what music was he playing? I am interested in hanging out there since they decided to put the Conservatory in the space where the Sports Bar is on Millie and we always hung out in the sports bar on our cruise so considering hanging out with the guitarist depending on type of music...we too will be on Deck 7 Constellation (7203) so might no even have to go up to Deck 10 from the sounds (tee hee)

My husband says it was soft rock, I personally like soft rock, but very tired VERY quickly of listening to him. Same sets over and over again. We heard Wasted Away in Margaritaville enough times in one evening to wish we were wasted away in Margaritaville.

That stinks. We loved the Sports Bar on Millie. I think Millennium was the only ship that had a Sports bar.

Yeah, Millie was the 1st M-Class ship and they put in a Sports Bar but on all the following ships they made it the Conservatory instead of a Sports Bar. When we were on Millie there was always some people in that bar, we liked it cause we aren't into dancing/discos nor into mellow lounge acts featured in most of the other lounge areas so this was perfect. Will definitely hit Cirque bar too see what it is like if not, back of the boat with the guitarist it is! (tee hee)

About your comment about the Sports Bar - was it eliminated? The Celebrity site shows both the Conservatory and the Extreme Sports Bar in different locations on the Sunrise deck. Is this layout outdated? Sure liked the idea of being able to visit a sports bar at times on our upcoming cruise.

Getting back to the food-my main problem with Celebrity's food in the both the buffet and the main dining room is that it is too bland. I'm told that this is intentional-many Americans, especially older ones, don't like spicy or heavily flavored food. I think the overall quality is good as is the presentation. But it has little or no taste so a lot of folks like myself, who enjoy robust flavors, find it lacking and therefore not "good." But it is good quality-just very bland. Maybe things will change as "boomers" who have grown to love Thai, Mexican and even authentic French cuisine move to the fore in cruising.

We were on the Mille last week also; ditto on the food. Nothing to brag about and since I don't want to start a thread war I won't mention that it was just about equal to the food we got on the Golden Princess in November.

I gotta admit it was a first class ship. The classiest thing X did was to serve us "Cold Towels" on the pier when we returned from shore excursions. And thank goodness there were no steel bands blasting on the pool deck; smooth jazz all afternoon.......sweet.

We've asked the waiter or Matre'd several times to jazz up (i.e. more garlic or spices) and have never been questioned. They are serving 2000+- passengers so the default is to make it bland. But if you ask, they do wonders.

Also, if you have the guts you can get something off menu. One of our tablemates on one cruise had a shnitzel done. I've had a wonderful tomato and goat cheese salad also not on the menu. The polite thing to do is ask at least the day before and whala - its there.

If we are going to tip the Matre'D we figure we should get at least one thing special. Since most people stiff him/her the florish which its provided with encourages others - a good thing for cruisers and employees.

On the Constellation in September, they had wonderfull Indian food on multiple days. They also had several spicy dishes on the dining room menu, which were clearly advertised as spicy. We also had no problem asking for our dishes to be "spiced up". I love Celebrity, but they are no match for the pre-carnivalized Princess in the area of pasta. If there is a weak point, it is there.

I am very sorry to har about the Millie food in January. We will be onboard for 2 weeks in November so I hope things pick up! We specifically booked the Millie due to the sports bar. As my husband pointed out, he "doesn't need a stinking flower shop" :) Of note, on our previous Connie cruises, we have never seen other passengers in that area, although many of us have laughed about it. One night on the Connie, there were about 90-100 men huddled around the bar in the casino watching a football game. Even though they had no sound, they were all still glued there. Celebrity should take note of this and add the sports bar to the other M class ships. JMO.............

Thanks for the information.

On the Zenith he was in the pool well in the early evening.

We are on the Millie in a few days.

Maybe if we leave the balcony doors open we can hear him.

Longboysfan,

Hiope you enjoy your cruise. We'll be leaving on the Millennium on the 27th.

Last year on the Infinity we were in one of the aft cabins on deck 9, and thoroughly enjoyed sitting on our balcony with a glass of wine and listening to Pepe Ayala play the guitar.

we have the same cabin this year, and hope the music is just as good.

Will be curious to hear what you think about the food. Am not quite sure if I understand the previous posts. Is there a new menu out or there will be a new menu?

Have a great cruise.

Mike&Sue & Davis0056 Millie is the only ship with both the Sports Bar & Conservatory. The other M-Class ships never put in a Sports Bar that I know of, the area that is where the Sports Bar is on Millie is the Conservatory on all the other M-class ships and I don't know what they put in that area that is the Conservatory on Millie on these other ships, it was odd 2-story glassed in area with a small seating area on the top floor so not sure what could be done with it... As I mentioned we totally enjoyed the sports bar on Millie and as far as I know they don't plan on changing it any time soon, but we will miss not having it on Constellation, but knowing us where there is fun we will find it!
