Question about On Board Credits

Hi! I booked with an online travel agent (who shall remain nameless) and was told that I would be getting a $300 OBC. I've got that in writing from them. I don't see any confirmation about an OBC when I go to celebrity.com and look at my reservation information. Should I be worried about this? Or is it normal for an OBC from a travel agent to not show up in advance on the Celebrity paperwork?

Thank you for the help!

Hi Heather

I have the exact same thing and freaked out when it didn't show up... so I called Celebrity. The credits are indeed there but because they did not come from Celebrity they won't show up on their website. I was told they would be posted on the 2nd night of the cruise. Hope that helps!

Our OBC did not show until 2nd day (as you said).

The credits will not show on line and it

may take more than 2 nights before they show up on

your S&S account. I have had credits before and it is 1/2 way into

the cruise before they are there. But they eventually get them

posted:)

The credit won't show up online with Celebrity. But ... you should call Celebrity a couple of days prior to the cruise and confirm that you will be getting the credit from the travel agent. (Celebrity should be able to confirm by then.) DO NOT wait until you are on the cruise to verify this. Once the cruise starts, it's too late.

If Celebrity doesn't know about it before the cruise, you will have to attempt to get travel agent to apply a credit to your credit card account. We had this problem in 2009 and were able to get it resolved .. but not until the cruise was over. Good Luck!

do you know if TA OBCs are refundable? can they be used for gratuities? How about booking onboard OBCs?

You will have to wait and see how your credits are labeled. We received the credits on the second afternoon of our 7 day cruise. There are codes they apply. Ours was posted as

OBR-ONB CREDIT INDIVIDUAL

There is a legend at the bottom of the statement that says:

****OBR: Onboard Credit - Refundable ****

****OBN: Onboard Credit - Non-Refundable (Ship Credit, No Cash Back and No Cash Value) ****

In this case our TA on board credit was apparently refundable, but we spent way more than that $100 credit; so it didn't really matter much to us.

They are used just as a general credit on the account... In our case a $100.00CR in the amount column, which reduced the total of the charges in that column. If you have gratuities or drink or excursion purchases, the credit is applied to the whole account.

Good luck calling Celebrity about anything regarding your account when you have a TA. I was told to call my TA. Celebrity would not discuss anything about my account with me.

Both can be used for gratuities. My understanding is that TA OBC is refundable whereas booking onboard OBC is not refundable.

There are a few cases where OBC from Celebrity is limited and can't be used in the casino, but if yours isn't restricted, you could go to the casino and draw it all out. You pay 3%, but at least you get 97% of it. Never leave free money on the ship (or anywhere else).

  • 2 months later...
We had an OBC from our TA, and it did show up on all our pre-cruise documentation. We also had another OBC from Celebrity, and that, too, was on our documentation prior to departure.

I just got my Edoc for our Nov sailing, but did not see our OBC from Celebrity, could you tell me what page it should be on. Thanks!!!
