SJCNEWBIE Posted August 16, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2010 Dear All, Does anyone on here get vaccinated before going on their Caribbean cruise. Apparently according to the UK government website, a tetanus booster and Hep-A vaccinations are advisable? Thoughts?
truffles2 Posted August 16, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2010 If you have not had a tetanus shot within the last 10 years, then you need one--not just for travel but everyday living. We got hep A & B shots before going to South America ...better safe than sorry--and that goes for all over. Just my humble opinion:rolleyes:
suezyq50 Posted August 16, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 16, 2010 We haven't. We do stay current with all shots.

Never gotten shots solely for the Caribbean, though.

whyrlygig Posted August 16, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 16, 2010 For the first time, we did see a travel doctor last week. DH had not had his hepA or hepB and I had not had hepA so we did that. We also did typhoid. Since I have pretty severe IBS, I did not want to take any chances. More than anything, we learned much from the appointment about precautions to take, what to bring with us and what to watch for.
Rako20 Posted August 16, 2010 #7 Share Posted August 16, 2010 I highly recommend that you at least have the Hep A and B shots before you go. The chances of catching them is a lot higher in the Caribbean and you can even catch them at home a few years ago there was an outbreak in Toronto Ontario, of all places. rxmurphy Posted August 16, 2010 #8 Share Posted August 16, 2010 If you plan on eating in a restaurant ANYWHERE, Caribbean, home - land based, whatever, you should have protection against Hep A. In general, always stay current on all of your vaccinations and you should be fine. Gives you one less thing to worry about while planning a cruise! We were also going to Egypt a month later so our practice nurse definitely recommended. Lorraine.
