New to HAL Questions

We will be taking our first HAL cruise in April and although I've become addicted to this board I still have some questions. How much does Bingo cost per session and how many games per session? When is the Captain's reception for Suite passengers? We want to try the Pinnacle Grill but we were looking at the evening that we would be in Puerto Vallarta but from what I've read that is the same night as the Bar-B-Que so do they have Baby Back Ribs at the Bar-B-Que? That might make the difference of when we do the Pinnacle. We don't really want to do it the first night since we like meeting our tablemates that night. Has anyone ever been in 7056 on the O'dam and is there any problems with that cabin (like noise, cold/hot, bathroom problems)?

Also, do want to thank the people on this board, for just by reading we have learned a great deal of what to expect. We've only been on one other cruise and didn't really enjoy the atmosphere. While we do drink, we don't like making fools of ourselves or see other adults make fools of themselves so we are looking forward to a more laid back cruise.

Thanks again for all of your advice.

Well, Bingo is usually played twice a day while at sea, once per day (usually around 4:00 while in port) and the cost is $10 for a single card for all games. You can but a triple card for $20 for all the games. The final game each day is the Snowball jackpot bingo, where the pot keeps growing til someone wins (usually doesn't happen til the final day). On our last cruise, we had 2 free cruise Bingo's which surprised me, usually there is only one.

Hope this helps answer the Bingo question. :)

We were in 7054 last Feb/Mar on the Oosterdam - loved the room and the location is great for the Neptune Lounge.

The captain usually has a suite cocktail party the first night of the cruise - 7:30 - 8:15. But there have been times when the next day was a sea day and the reception for the suite passengers was at noon! Didn't like that time.

Wwe have yet to be able to go to the Pinnacle on the first night because of the suite get together.

We haven't gone to the BBQ the last few cruises but we have gotten mixed reviews from those that did - some said the ribs were great and others said they were tough. We have noticed that on our last few cruises, the ribs that weren't eaten at BBQ were offered at lunch the next day in the Lido.

The cocktail party for suite pax is hosted by the Hotel Manager, not the Captain but the Captain will be present. Many times it is held the first night, but it is sometimes held the second night. (KK mentioned she has experience with it being held at noon the second day) It is hard to tell when it will be held, but it is usually the first night, but you can't always count on it.

Do you buy a bingo card that last the whole cruise, the whole day or each time Bingo is played each day?

Very good question. I'll put in red to make sure we get an answer.

A big Texas thank you to all who answered. Sounds like Bingo might be more reasonable then on the other cruise line I've been on. How many games are there per session?

Seems like the Pinnacle will win out over the BBQ.

I sure love this board!

mechcc - (Was just posting and wipped it all out.before complete:eek: )

Let me try again - DH & I really enjoy Bingo onboard. As posted, cash or credit our last trips, with two lines, one for each. Usually allow 15 minutes before time for this, as well as being seated where you can see the board. Sea days we usually played two times a day. Where the board is will depend upon the ship and cruise directors.

The Cruise Directors do a great job making it fun as well as building to the big SNOWBALL JACKPOT. $20 buys 4 games, three cards per sheet.. $10 Buys 1, also three. Last game each card is a cover the card in 50 calls. During the duration of the cruise, if no one has been able to do this, the last day they call until some one does get the BIG SNOWBALL JACKPOT. We were told by seat mates that it has happened on one of their cruises! BIG POT!

Someone here may know just how much. I do not remember, and then of course it depends upon how many play.

We are not casino types, so this is our "gambling".

One afternoon DH wanted a nap and gave me a $20 to play for him. WELL - good thing I am trustworthy! ;) With the card his money bought I won the 2nd and 3rd games that afternoon! Payoff was in cash. I went back to our cabin and woke him up throwing $$$$$ all over the bed!:p (Almost better than Rose petales.)

As a result, we did not disembark...we stayed for another week!:D

Enjoy & we send our wishes for GOOD LUCK!

I just noticed that you did the Veendam Southern Caribbean, 14 day, this past January. We are taking it this coming November. There are many cc'ers on the same cruise. I am sure we would all be interested in a review if you have time to share. I was particularly interested to know about your "Cosol Tour" experience in St. Lucia, and how we can get more information. We expect other family to join us on this cruise....so I need to do much research due to many age differences and interests! :D

Thanks again!

You must buy a card each time Bingo is played each day.
