true, hey they could charter the blueridge or the arahura......that would be fun with those 2 vessels going on cruises....great cook straight ferry's.cheers matt

Now thats a good thought...

A few years ago when we could see there was a great weekend

weather wise, coming up,

we booked an Inter Island Ferry crossing.

Flew from Auckland real early in the morning to Wellington, took a taxi to the InterIsland Terminal and cruised over to Picton for the day, and returned , jumped on a jet and flew back home.

Fabulous day was had by all

Do you think that P&O have added to the situation by cranking up the number of passengers they put on board?

I mean these ships coming down here were designed to cope with "x" number of pax.

By adding all the quad cabins, it must put extra pressure on what the ship was designed to handle...

eg...

extra number of showers per day

extra number of times the toilet is flushed

extra number of meals from the galley

extra number of sheets to wash

extra number of towels to wash

etc..etc..

some how I do not think that extra pax would any impacked on the engines.

Ok ok.So I know how many Band Aids to buy what are the problems we should be aware of with OV/Pacific Pearl.

Well on my last cruise with her this year my bathroom flooded when the toilet suction failed, so did my sisters cabin. Both on deck 9! But then after they have been in constant use for 22 years thats to be expected!

Other than that she was in pretty good nick and sure after the refurb she will be fine..

Unlike Jewel who only has two engines, OV1 has 4 engines :D and can go faster!

Hey guys have had some inside information , The part the jewel needs has to come from overseas which could be up to 6 weeks. I dont think jo36 will depart.

Time to put backup plan in place.

If it really is going to take so long, I'd expect they'd put their temporary alternative in place and just put the ship in for dry dock when it arrives.

That said, they've already said it comes from overseas and flights only take a day or so, so no news there...

Depends how big/heavy the part is. Some of these parts might have to come via sea?

I agree with you on that and I doubt that there are extra pax compared with when she was sailing as Ocean Village 2. It would be interesting to hear a comment on this from our UK friends who have sailed on her in her previous life.

I wonder if some people are thinking about the extra berths added to the Pacific Dawn when she was converted from Princess to P & O.

Also, thanks for the link to the UK forum discussing this engine problem.

Well perhaps its an omen Lisa.

The field was announced a short time ago and the names of 2 horses fit the bill

No 1...Shocking..........(that a P&O ship is not going)

No 3...So you think.....(that your going by ship?)

Hate to "dampen" your hol, but make sure to pack a good umbrella.

Btw, the easiest way from city to racecourse is the train, every few minutes from flinders st or southern cross.:)

Hi there

Thank you for the heads up re public transport I was watching derby day today and it was terrible so i am hitting the shops to buy some wellies i have the poncho packed and i have the brolly on the shopping list as well lol. I can tell you the universe is against me as far as this whole holiday is concerned :( But i will turn the negative into a positive as i will never go back again.

Now any tips for the actual races  i had better take all the pics of the outfit in the hotel room before i get oustide as it wont be a good day for the camera

cheers

No tips but when I used to have a bet usually backed a roughie on a heavy track. about 12/1. Who knows, after the jewel thing and all you may have a win.

According to the p&o map someone posted, if you go by train they have a spot to pick up your ticket on the platform at the racecourse, near the turnstiles, opposite about two carriages from front of train.

I have told them i will be picking my tickets up even though i dont need them as the upgrade into the Riverside enclosure i will give the tickets away or keep them as a souvenir but you had to regisiter with P&O and you have to take ID to pick them up. After all we have been thru they should be hand delivering them to our door :p

I will back roughies all day especially if the track is dead. and the old saying is back a grey on a rainy day but it seems the only greys are the stewards horses lol

cheers

Yes you're correct about the tickets being hand delivered.

P/Sun not looking good as well.

Good luck on the nags then.:)

Will be watching the webcam to see if it moves at the scheduled time of 11pm. fingers crossed they have "fixed" it and not put another bandaid on it.

cheers

While they can't put a whole ship onboard, most parts should be able to be transferred by air. Of course, the bigger and heavier it is, the more it will cost... but so will having the ship out of service waiting for it. I'd be surprised if they didn't take the air option, if some other parts are required from overseas.
