cutiediva Posted November 14, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2010 There are 4 of us going on this cruise at the end of the year. We plan to order room service to get us going each morning. Do we tip $1 for each item? ie. 4 coffees, 4 OJ and 4 bagels = $12 What would you suggest? Thanks......Linda
*Mach* Posted November 14, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2010 The one dollar per item ordered is merely a suggestion... not a rule. For an order like that I'd probably tip about five bucks or so... :)
woodey Posted November 14, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 14, 2010 I would say thats too much .....give what you feel right with..... i would tip two or three dollars for that order
cuyahoga11 Posted November 14, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 14, 2010 I give $1.00 pp, not per item. 4 people $4.
uppitycats Posted November 14, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 14, 2010 I don't tip per item, either. $4 -$5 would seem appropriate for an order like that.
Jellytots Posted November 14, 2010 #6 Share Posted November 14, 2010 We got a few items through Room Service on the Valor one night and tipped the guy $5.00.
cb at sea Posted November 14, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 14, 2010 If it's coffee/danish...$2 is ample. If it's a full meal for 2, then $5 is fine. $12 for ANYTHING is too much!

Tbay-eh Posted November 14, 2010 #10 Share Posted November 14, 2010 See - it is kind of an individual thing. $4-5 is sufficient. If you want milk or cream with your coffee you have to order it - they don't automatically include it.
golfadj Posted November 14, 2010 #11 Share Posted November 14, 2010 We would tip $ 2 and get a nice thank you.
wantocruisemore Posted November 14, 2010 #12 Share Posted November 14, 2010 I always gave a $2 tip. We usually had 2 coffees, 1 hot choc., a banana, a couple of croissants and a couple danish. Always received a polite thank you.

Do we tip $1 for each item? ie. 4 coffees, 4 OJ and 4 bagels = $12 What would you suggest? Thanks......Linda I would tip $3-$4 for that order. It isn't as if they have to come to your room 12 times to deliver it to you.
QTPieRye Posted November 14, 2010 #14 Share Posted November 14, 2010 For us, we tip per person, not per item....... 5 people = $5.00 tip. With that said, we tend to tip a little bit more if we order room service really late, i.e. after midnight.......
AQW Posted November 14, 2010 #15 Share Posted November 14, 2010 I tip $2 for a light tray, $3 for a moderate tray, and $4 for one of those trays where I look at it and think "How in the world did they carry all that?" ;)
PS90 Posted November 14, 2010 #16 Share Posted November 14, 2010 Well, considering that the suggested gratuities for the entire MDR wait staff for Carnival is $5.50, pp, pd, which includes them bringing three or four separate courses of food at dinner, AND tending your other needs, AND possibly tending to you at other times of the day - I would extrapolate that amount of effort and time to the room service waiter, to bring and set out your room service, to be about $0.50-0.75 per person. So, for four people in your party, I would give them about $2-3. But that's just me.
seadancer Posted November 14, 2010 #17 Share Posted November 14, 2010 $5 a trip . After the first one they seem to remember us and quickly deliver if they can
Name Of The Game Posted November 14, 2010 #18 Share Posted November 14, 2010 $3.00-$4.00 sounds OK to me.

Thanks......Linda I think the person who would deliver your breakfast tray would be very very happy with 12.00$, but in all honesty, to me 5.00 at the most sounds right. Again, this just my opinion, and ultimately it is up to you and what feels right to you.:)

Your sit down meal tip comes to $1.66 per person, with full service. $1 or $2 TOPS for your delivery!
sjcruiser Posted November 15, 2010 #21 Share Posted November 15, 2010 For your order, I also would do $5.00. On all of my cruises I have had the same room service attendant delivering the food. She (always a women) was always quick with delivering the items orders, and if I only ordered one or two items, she usually got $3.00.

Jimnbigd Posted November 16, 2010 #24 Share Posted November 16, 2010 For us, we tip per person, not per item....... 5 people = $5.00 tip. With that said, we tend to tip a little bit more if we order room service really late, i.e. after midnight....... As you might know, RCCL now charges $3.95 midnight to, what, 5am? Something like that. But RCCL says this includes the tip. I wonder if Carnival will ever start this.
