You might also want to visit la Boqueria - not just for chocolate, but for spices, ham and a great spot to eat as well as the total experience.

One of the very best markets and right off Las Ramblas - you can't miss it. :)

I really think you should just wander and taste!! You will have lots of choices of chocolate shops! In fact there is a whole street in the old part of town nicknamed "chocolate street". It is Carrer Petritxol. Your tastebuds may be different from mine or others so tasting is the best(and most fun!!)

If you have time, you may also be interested in visiting the chocolate museum.

We visited the chocolate museum (museo xocolate) las t year and sampled some of their goodies which seemed very fresh. As you enter, the store and cafe is located to the left of where you purchase the museum ticket (which is a bar of chocolate). It is not necessary to visit the museum to enjoy the cafe. I had a croissant (they ran out of churros) with a small cup of xocolate which was like drinking a melted dark chocolate bar - very rich and decadent. We also purchased several pieces of chocolate in order to do a "scientific sampling".

We are thinking of taking the kids there. But it appears as though I might like it too. :D
