Ellen Dio Posted March 5, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2011 Two couples leaving San Juan for JFK on an 8pm flight - looking for what to do in San Juan for the day - with our luggage - I'm sure there are tons of posts on this but I did 2 searches and can't find much yet. I was thinking a hotel with a beach/pool that sells day passes - just hang out and have a place to clean up and change before the flight out. would love some specific ideas maybe hotel names? cruiseacecat Posted March 5, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2011 I can't help with hotels, but when I had a 7:00pm flight out of SJU after a cruise, I took the rainforest excursion through the ship and it was absolutely wonderful. They stored our luggage, and it was waiting at the airport on our arrival. Had a terrific guide. I did this just to have a way to kill time, but really enjoyed it and would love to go back on my own. And the cost was not that much more than a transfer. Anne :)
cruisenfever Posted March 5, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 5, 2011 Have you tried the Ports of Call Forum? Under Caribbean you will find San Juan, PR where you may find some answers.
DonnaK Posted March 5, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2011 We also did the post-cruise Rainforest tour through the cruiseline. Our luggage was safely stowed on the tour bus, and we had a very nice time. The only thing is that we returned to the airport around 3pm, so you'd still have a lot of time to kill. wrp96 Posted March 5, 2011 #5 Share Posted March 5, 2011 Barrachina's restaurant in Old San Juan will store luggage. I also believe one of the Marriot resorts offers day rates.
Ellen Dio Posted March 5, 2011 Author #6 Share Posted March 5, 2011 thanks I did check the Ports of Call section - found some info. Have been to Puerto Rico numerous times as my father had a condo there have done the rain forest, Old San Juan etc. but never needed hotel so not much info on that. We just want to sit and relax by a pool or on a beach and than shower up and get to some place for food and to the airport. The "guys" are looking into the zip line thing but not the ladies - the ship tours offered were pretty un-interesting. thanks for the help! Ramjet1997 Posted March 5, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2011 Last time in San Juan we also had a late flight out.........took the Bacardi tour - very nice and they drop you off at the airport - and as I recall the tour was very inexpensive...maybe $20 per person - and you get 2 drinks at Bacardi too! Best deal there is..........
khm1 Posted March 5, 2011 #8 Share Posted March 5, 2011 Read this thread that I started a little while back: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1263126&highlight=day+room This solution worked out perfectly for us.
Sheal Posted March 5, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 5, 2011 How about bidding a room on Priceline? It may be cheaper than day passes if you split the cost with the other couple. That way you could have access to their pool or beach or casino depending on which property you won. Check out better bidding for the hotels most likely to come up. Ellen Dio Posted March 5, 2011 Author #10 Share Posted March 5, 2011 thanks again everyone - I will take some hotel phone numbers- we are Gold Marriott reward members so maybe that will help - who knows - god knows it hasn't done us much good in any other way LOL - that's a good plan although I'm the type who likes to have all things set ahead of time - I'm not sure when they'll be kicking us off the ship but we aren't in any real rush to get anywhere - I think getting to the airport by 5pm will be MORE than enough time - thanks again
maggieq Posted March 5, 2011 #11 Share Posted March 5, 2011 We went to the Marriott in Condado and paid for them to store our luggage. We hung outside, had a couple drinks and lunch. We also took a walk and then it was time to go...much nicer than sitting at the airport.
