Fuel Surcharge, Plan for it Everyone

Recommended Posts

"Can" as in might...last time Carnival started at $5 for pax 1 and 2, and pax 3/4/5 were free, so that would be $70 for a cabin with 5 in it.

And if they were split into 2 cabins, that would still be $140 some people don't budget for. Remember, Carnival can go up to $9 per person per day, plus charge for the 3/4/5 in a cabin if they want. ($2 pp) If fuel prices keep going up -just paid $3.99 a gallon yesterday - $70 to fill my tank- I have no doubts the cruise lines will re-instate the surcharge. No one should really be surprised if they do. And for sure it won't stop me from cruising or vacationing!:p

Op,

I think people like you are going to cause all of us to pay the fuel surcharge. You make it seem like it is expected and we should all just sit back, fat, dumb and happy to pay it..

If others like you didn't post how likely it is, and let the cruise lines make their decisions, we would all be better off. Shut up, lol.!!!!!!!!!

So now it's my fault if Carnival believes in their BUSINESS plan that they should bring back the surcharge? I said plan for it, so now you are the one complaining about it. Carnival isn't going to reinstate over one thread on cruise critic.

If you ran a transportation business (like UPS/FedEx/Courier Service) and prices of diesel fuel raise 25-30% you can either lose money, raise rates, or add a fuel surcharge.....It is not the "popular" thing to do, but may be done. So I am guessing if you ran a business you would lose money??? Please let me in to your logic, thanks and happy cruising.

My recommendation to the OP is Stay OUT of the Stock Market you will loose your azz. Hedging is not a good practise for those with vast experience and you have ZERO!

What exactly am I hedging??? I am planning for the worst...... do explain almighty one....

In addition to fuel surcharges being added, we can also expect itinerary changes where they can reduce distance or speed to save fuel.

nothing like spending hundreds of dollars to cruise from Baltimore to NY! :(

Guess I will factor this in

No matter what I say? I wish I had the final say - it would be NO to a fuel surcharge. But since the beards at CCL haven't asked my opinion lately, I think they will be busy watching what the other lines do. Once one line does it, others will follow suite, as happened last time. And it doesn't look like fuel prices will be going down in the near future. As much as I hope it doesn't happen, I think people have to be realistic about what might happen.

Exactly, because those who aren't realistic about it are going to be the first ones whining and moaning about it..... Just keep it in the back of your mind folks.

I have a family of 5 going and am really praying there is no charge coming. We are in 2 cabins so it will be alot, maybe even 300 plus if they charge the full 9.00. We will just not be able to spend some things we would like to like the steahouse, DOD, casinos amongst others. It is what it is so we will adjust as needed. I just wonder if some people would get there money back by taking off the tips to the employees, which is so wrong to them as they are not the ones to blame..JW

As sad as that would be, I guarantee some people might think about it and do just that......

Which is why CCL probably should "roll" the grats into the cruise fare. That way the hard-working crew doesn't get shorted by some naive people who feel they are "getting back" at the company if and when they put in a surcharge. But that is another thread subject...:p

hi all

if it happenes it happens why so much talk and sepculation???

if it goes abpve $70 they can impose it

i do not think they will they will raise fares on future bookings

economy is bad bad bad they do not want to start charging

more fuel fees as they know there is a direct correlation between that

and booknig going down

also they rather not charge you extra fees they want you to use that $

to drink shop gamble speciality rest etc

I cruise in 3 weeks. I would hope that Carnival was smart enough to have hedged its fuel for the next 3-6 months. Southwest is a very shrewd airline and hedged its fuel back in 2008 when fuel went sky high. Southwest was the ONLY airline that didn't have to pass on sky high fuel charges to its passengers, and didn't take a huge loss on jet fuel.

But SW announced fare hikes today, so even the best laid plans......
