Does anyone know if there is luggage storage at the Roma Ostiento station?

No, unfortunately only Termini and Tiburtina have left luggage offices.

 

You can take the bus to Termini, which I think is a better option than the LE. It's the same price as the FR1 (8 Euro each way) and takes you directly to Termini (not three blocks away like the LE). There is secure luggage storage underneath the bus so you don't need to spend the ride worrying about it.

I thought that would be the answer. I did check the Vatican website. It clearly states that their cloak room stores suitcases. That will be ideal. Thanks again.

Euro brings up a great point about the Termini station. Is is a very sprawling complex which can be a real problem for those who have lots of luggage or mobility issues. Some train lines like the LE and the regional train that goes to Civitavecchia are very far (Euro says 3 blocks...and they are not short blocks) within this huge station. There are some side exits closer to these trains, but there are not always taxis at those exits and its also not the best neighborhood after dark.

Ok, this is not relevant to anything (but since we just had a Martini who cares) so must post this comment. We are awed and "Wowed" at Euros level of knowlege on this subject. Now mind you we are not ignorant travelers and also have a teeny bit of knowledge, but this just makes us appreciate Euro even more. In fact, every once in a while we learn new things from Euro (we did not know you couldn't buy a BIRG ticket at the Fiumcino station). For those of you trying to really learn how to travel independently you cannot do much better then to listen to Euro.

Unless they have made recent changes the FR1 train does not go to the Termini....but it does stop at a number of other stations within Rome. Here is a link that might help...

Also keep in mind that the FR1 is more like a subway then a normal train and there are always locals getting on and off at different stations. This means you need to always keep your luggage under close control and be alert for pickpockets ( a good idea anywhere in Europe).

The FR1 does not go to Termini, the LE has that route exclusively. The FR1 bypasses Termini and goes on to Tiburtina.

Termini is huge. It felt like the size of an airport!! We went to get the subway to go to Lateran after coming in from Civitavecchia for the day and walked so far in the opposite direction. We spent the rest of the day walking in Rome and realised that it would have been much more pleasant and probably have taken about the same amount of time to have walked.

 

We don't have mobility issues though.
