Kids at adult pool/spa?

What is your opinion on children being in and/or around the adult pool & spa area?

Personally, I understand going for a cruise if often a family vacation, however I do not prefer to be splashed or ran into-so I simply head to the adult pool instead of the main pool. Unfortunately it seems that some parents are of the mindset that as long as their child behaves, it is okay for them to be in the adult area. I disagree, I think children should not be allowed in the adult area period. (Obviously if they need to come talk to mom or dad, to ask a question or just check in, by all means that is great parenting...but then they should be on their way. If parents want to hang out with thier children with them, they should all head to the main pool).

What do you think?

I agree. It's an Adults-Only area for a reason. Parents, please teach your children to respect others, and obey the rules that are given...not pick and choose which ones you want to obey. Sounds harsh, but that's where I stand.

Why do they have the hairest man contest in the "family area". I perfer my kids not to see that. Its an adult contest, right? Can they do this in the adult area or at least by the adult only pool. We try to avoid that area when this is happening. I enjoy watching it myself but not with my kids which would be in the pool at that time of day.

Amen

Dear posters, please dont feed alexieb any further, she is just another "troll", stirring up this thread and another one: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/search.php?searchid=20747924

Alexieb, you are hilarious :D

Sorry bud, but I am not a troll. I am giving my opinion. I just got off a cruise yesterday and am giving my opinion about certain points.

I know I am going to catch a lot of heat for my response but here goes....I do not like that there is an entire pool area that does not allow children. I want the option to go to the back of the ship with my kid to swim where it is QUIETER.

Tough.

It's quieter there, because it's adults only. There are no kids to make noise.

You are not special. Your kids are not special. You will be required to move along to the pools that allow your kids.

3 children and 5 grandchildren and they are not allowed in the "Adults" only area...They do hairy chest and such around the main pool so that "parents and children" can be together. If you have children you have to make a choice. If you don't like the noise at the pool then find something else to do.

What is your opinion on children being in and/or around the adult pool & spa area?

I think it has to do a lot with the design of the ship. If you didn't know better, most times it's hard to tell if you're within an adult area on a Carnival ship.

Adult areas on Royal Caribbean ships (at least the ones I've been on) always seems to have the enclosed "Atrium" area with a nice pool. They are clearly adult areas and the deafening silince in them world scare away most kids.

That and all the tubby old dudes in robes playing Mahjong.

The point of my post is to say that there should be an area offered to ANYBODY who wants to enjoy some pool time without being subjected to loud music. Not that parents should take their kids into your precious aft pool.

While you may want to have a quieter pool to take your children, that is not the point of this post. The topic was how do people feel about kids in the adult only pools. I hope that you have enough respect for others & follow the rules, keeping your children out of the adult only areas. If you want a pool without music, make your desire known to Carnival & follow the rules until they give you your wish.

I think it's expected that children stay away from the "adults only" areas such as the serenity area or the solarium. Most ships have at LEAST 2 pools that children can use freely not to mention the water slides, miniature golf and the camp type programs. We go on vacation to relax. I understand families go to relax as well and that is why there are so many common areas and areas designed specifically for children and families. So far we have been pretty lucky and haven't had any negative encounters with children in adults only places. I haven't seen too many children running around with supervision either. In response to an earlier post about how children should be allowed in adults only areas because it's quiet.... It is quiet because it's only adults.

It's kind of hard for the kids to "stay away" from the Solarium when Carnival put the pizza, grill, and ice cream machines there. While I don't expect them to "stay away" from there, I do expect them to not be in the pool or hot tubs as they are "adult only"...not the area.

My kids behave on a cruise. They know there are consequences if they don't. I expect them to follow all the rules (as we do) which include not being in "adult only" areas (Serenity, Casino, Bars at night) or the "adult only" pools and hot tubs.

Unfortunately some people don't believe that the rules apply to them or their family. They are on vacation. That is why there are always some people who don't follow the dress code, smoke on the wrong side of the ship, put there babies in the pools/hot tubs, smuggle alcohol on-board, let their children roam into the adult only areas, chair hog, etc. It's a fact your going to run into some of these people on your cruise. What can you do?

I don't know as I have never really done anything since I don't care how others dress (it doesn't affect our meal), if someone is smoking by me I move to another spot, I tend to not go in the pools or hot tubs since I usually have DD with me and they "gross her out", I don't know who is an alcohol smuggler or not so they don't bother me, and the one time we ran into a serious case of chair hogs, DD and I just found a place inside to go play a game.

How should we react in these situations when we are faced with rule breakers? Call Security or the Purser's Desk? Ignore it? Confront them? Do you just do something about the rule breakers that annoy you and ignore the ones who don't? Do you complain about people breaking one rule while you break another?

Just some thoughts as I don't have an answer to OP's dilemma other than saying my family will follow the rules and you won't see my kids in the adult areas, pools, or hot tubs.

I, too, have to agree with the mindset that ADULTS ONLY means just that...only adults.

And while I can sympathize with the issues of noise at the main/family pools, as has been mentioned here there are other quieter areas of the ship to explore. No need to spend ALL DAY at the noisy pool.

With that being said...On our last cruise aboard the Splendor there were several children (pre-teen) booked into rooms across the hall from our cabin with their parents several doors down. Oftentimes these kids were running and yelling (Yes, YELLING) up and down the hall at various times of the day and night. We could handle it most of the time as we were either out and about on the ship during the day, or if we had retreated to our cabin, were on the balcony. However, there were a few times we tried to take an afternoon nap to no avail. This was quite frustrating to say the least. We did confront the little darlings on a couple of occasions and the noise subsided for a short time.

It was during this same cruise that we took a BTF tour and noticed in the cabin hallways there were signs alerting that it was a quiet area. That seemed reasonable as you may have shift workers sleeping at any hour of the day. In my review of our trip I suggested that perhaps these signs should be posted in the passenger hallways as well because you never know what may be going on behind closed doors.

Sorry to go off on a tangent....but it seems to me that the whole issue of mis-behaving children or children being in areas that are not appropriate to them all boils down to the lack of parenting. This is not isolated to cruise ships. Unfortunately our society today enables the entitlement some have to think they and their progeny can do what ever and whenever they want.

Off my soapbox now.....

Its just a adults only pool not a solarium, so yes kids are allowed.

I think the OP is talking about the very few ships that do have a adults only area with a pool. There are so few ships that have this I dont see it as a problem.

I want the option to go to the back of the ship with my kid to swim where it is QUIETER. Sometimes it is nice to hear the calypso music at the main pool for a little while, but it soon becomes obnoxious and tiresome to have to yell over the music. Everything is SO loud. I don't particularly enjoy having to sit and listen to the loud music and watch the steady stream of people waiting in line for food but I am forced to do so because I need to be close to the pool to supervise my child and make sure he is safe. The serenity area is great as adults only. Carnival should add a couple more hot tubs up there for the people who do not want to deal with children on this FAMILY cruise line.

I think Carnival does a good job at accomodating both families and adults only with their deck areas. Sounds to me like you just don't like the family accomodations.

I agree if it is a strictly adult only area then the kids shouldn't be there. If it is an adult only pool or hot tub in an open area then the kids should not be in the pool or hot tub. Whatever the posted rules are is what I expect from my family.

As a child-free person I very much appreciate the adults-only areas that Carnival provides. It made me happy to see this rule enforced on the Carnival Legend back in March when a family with children wandered to the Serenity deck and pool area and were politely asked to leave.

If they were to take away the adults-only areas I would be cruising another cruiseline very quickly.

For some reason you all seem to think that only adults are entitled to a quieter outdoor space and that the presence of children means noise. I suppose you are right when a parent doesn't monitor the child's behavior. But there are many parents that are responsible and monitor their children's behavior and keep them in line. In fact, I'm willing to bet that there are more of the latter than the former on cruises. There are lots of parents that cruise with their children who would like to have the use of an area to swim that isn't polluted with noisy music and smoke. The wasted adults cause far more of a rucus.

Sorry, but this discussion isn't about quiet/noisy/smoky/responsibility/whatever. It's about an area that says "Adults Only."

Your kid may be the most worldly one on the planet, may have seen every nude painting/sculpture at the Louvre/Met/Prado, but they're still not gonna let him or her in at the girlie club.

Other than quick check-ins, no kids in the adult areas. Ever. Period. End of story. If that doesn't work for you, you need to take it up with Carnival or sail another line.

NO! I do not want to take another vacation. We want to cruise. And if you don't have kids, you DON'T get it, period. All I ask is to have access to a pool with my child that isn't polluted by BLARING music all day long. It isn't an unreasonable thing. I find all your ignorant responses unreasonable.

Says the person who has no problem being 45 minutes late to dinner. The more of your posts I read the more i think you do have quite a bit of a Me Me Me mentality.

As someone suggested if you don't want blaring music perhaps you can change your schedule to be at the pool in the early morning and late afternoon when there isn't any.

Wait, I'm confused.. The aft pools on ships are adults only?? I was on the Dream last June and saw kids in both pools on Lido Deck, which was fine by me. The Serenity area was free from kids & had plenty of hot tubs for the adults.

What ship just had a Serenity upgrade? Cause I remember about 2 months ago, John Heald posted pictures of it and there was a pool for the Serenity area. Which was a great idea in my opinion. There should be a pool in the adult's only area since some adults prefer swimming without children. Plus it would keep the other two pools on Lido Deck less full.

The Dream pools are both family(kid) friendly….They are allowed to use either one. With 4200 passengers onboard and maybe 750 kids, THEY do need to open up BOTH pools to families with kids. The adults that want quiet, can go to the Serenity area. JMO

As a mother of 4 young kids, I think rules should be followed. If its marked adults only... than so be it. I would not want party goers crashing Camp Carnival. I feel that the Carnival staff should over see that kids aren't in the pools or spas that are designated for adults since some parents have no regard.

I do wish that there was a kids only pool. Where they could play and not have to worry about being disruptive.

Let me be clear one more time for all that seem to think I am saying that it is ok for kids to be in an adult area. I did not say that, nor have I allowed my child to be in the adult only areas. Throughout my posts I have been quite clear in stating that I feel there should be a quieter pool area for children/parents who do not want to listen to the constant noise pollution that seems to happen in the mid ship lido area. An area without blaring music, smokers, drunks, hairy chest, etc. I used the aft pool as an example of an area that does not have loud music blasting all day long. The point of this forum is to express opinions and share information. It's too bad that if one says something that the soapboxers don't like (which happens all toooften here) that person must be the recipient of snide remarks, etc.
