Kids at adult pool/spa?

I've sailed with Disney and even they have an adult only pool and hot tub area. I doubt you can get anymore "family" cruise than with Disney. I travel with my 8 year old and I still want a quiet place for my husband and I to relax and unwind without kids around.

Alexieb - I understand your point. It is very loud by the "family" pools. I think the idea of having certain times that do not have the loud music would be a great idea! It is a little loud for me too.

Now having said that, I have to say that adults should have a spot of their own. All it takes it one poorly behaved child to make it uncomfortable for everyone.

Agreed:D

I think it's ok for non-adult passengers to be in the area of the adult pool and/or spas as long as they are not in places they are prohibited from. I don't recall seeing any problems when i have been in those areas. There always seemed to be ample chaises to accommodate everyone. I don't see a problem with well behaved children anymore than i do with well behaved adults.

Ummm...."adult" means "adult" IMHO

I don't care if there are ample chaises in the Serenity area...I don't want your kids or anyone's kids parked in them ...nor do I enjoy seeing kids swinging on the hammocks

as for the adult pool /aft pool area...yes kids go thru there to get ice cream and pizza..so be it. But the serenity area?? Puhleeese

You would not appreciate me hanging out in Camp Carnival or Circle C or whatever would you...even if I was well behaved??

I think it's expected that children stay away from the "adults only" areas such as the serenity area or the solarium. Most ships have at LEAST 2 pools that children can use freely not to mention the water slides, miniature golf and the camp type programs. We go on vacation to relax. I understand families go to relax as well and that is why there are so many common areas and areas designed specifically for children and families. So far we have been pretty lucky and haven't had any negative encounters with children in adults only places. I haven't seen too many children running around with supervision either. In response to an earlier post about how children should be allowed in adults only areas because it's quiet.... It is quiet because it's only adults.

I think it's time "that Mom" took a cruise without her kids to see if she can chill out, to see what it's all about, and relax.

I was in the Aft pool yesterday. It was quiet because there was no music blaring. No. Blaring. Music. I walked from that pool to the mid deck pool. It was a challenge to talk without yelling over the music.

Can you come to my house and babysit for my kid for a a week? That's 24/7, by the way. I'll hop on the next cruise available. Thanks.

What is your opinion on children being in and/or around the adult pool & spa area?

Personally, I understand going for a cruise if often a family vacation, however I do not prefer to be splashed or ran into-so I simply head to the adult pool instead of the main pool. Unfortunately it seems that some parents are of the mindset that as long as their child behaves, it is okay for them to be in the adult area. I disagree, I think children should not be allowed in the adult area period. (Obviously if they need to come talk to mom or dad, to ask a question or just check in, by all means that is great parenting...but then they should be on their way. If parents want to hang out with thier children with them, they should all head to the main pool).

What do you think?

IMHO, there should be some places in this world where kids are neither seen or heard and also where there is no background music. If you need music, get an IPOD and full enclosure headphones or ear buds.

That's what Vegas is for. Or an adults only resort.

On our last cruise, when there were kids in the adults only pool, a Carnival employee quickly told them they weren't allowed there. Once, he even asked where their parents were, and when they were pointed out, he went over and spoke directly to them. The kids weren't causing any problems, but he was just enforcing the rules, which we appreciated.

I like kids, but in my job, I see and work with them every day, so when I'm on "vacation," I want a break from them. I'm looking forward to the Legend this summer because that's one of the few ships that has a pool in its Serenity area.

This is why there is a serenity deck. What makes you think that I want to be up partying in the casino/bars, etc? I, for one, don't. I enjoy dinner, and shows with my child and then happily go back to the cabin for the night. So, to want to enjoy a pool with my family that is low key without having to listen to blaring calypso music, hairy chest, etc. is completely reasonable. If anything, it far more responsible to expect that as a parent than what you are intimating.

We ALL know that the main pool area on Lido is going to have loud music and loud people, but it seems like it's mostly late morning until late afternoon. I know this might not fit your usual cruise schedule, but here is an option. If it's mainly the loudness that bothers you most, how about trying a different schedule? Maybe do an early breakfast so you can get some early pool time in before the music really cranks up. Then schedule other activities, Camp Carnival, etc. for mid-day. Then maybe schedule dinner around getting in some late afternoon or early evening main pool time when the crowds/music aren't so loud? I think it's cool to watch the stars while in the pool. Your child might like this too! Just a suggestion. :)

I know I am going to catch a lot of heat for my response but here goes....I do not like that there is an entire pool area that does not allow children. I want the option to go to the back of the ship with my kid to swim where it is QUIETER. Sometimes it is nice to hear the calypso music at the main pool for a little while, but it soon becomes obnoxious and tiresome to have to yell over the music. Everything is SO loud. I don't particularly enjoy having to sit and listen to the loud music and watch the steady stream of people waiting in line for food but I am forced to do so because I need to be close to the pool to supervise my child and make sure he is safe. The serenity area is great as adults only. Carnival should add a couple more hot tubs up there for the people who do not want to deal with children on this FAMILY cruise line.

Perhaps taking seperate vacations from the kids would be in your best interest. There are plenty of adults who do not enjoy being around kids...Adult only is just that...ADULTS! Sorry, it you who CHOSE to have the kids...you must deal with the loud music and splashing and screaming...NOT US. Not trying to be rude, just being factual.

There was an adult only pool and area on the Freedom when we went in December...yes, it was right by the pizza and deli but I really didn't see kids in the pool. There were kids all around getting food. I know I REALLY wanted to take advantage of the adult only pool, but I had two kids with me, so I followed the rules and took them to the kid friendly pool. If it says adult only, it should be adult only.

I totally agree with you! It annoys me that people with kids just want to take them everywhere. If I had kids, I would think like you do.

After reading quite a few posts about the old topless areas, and whether people still try to go topless, I would say that if you want kids to leave.... take off your top. Their parents will have them out of there in the blink of an eye.

Hilarious response....gotta' love this one. Hahahahha:D

any number of cruise lines and Disney does it best when it comes to keeping the adults area for adults. There always complaints about the size of the pools on the Disney ships but the cast members don't hesitate to remove kids from the "adults" only area.

As for maybe if you don't want to be around kids take another vacation I see it a different way. If you find the pool area too noisy with music etc then maybe you need to be looking at different vacation ideas. The pool area on all the ships I have been on have been loud!

NO! I do not want to take another vacation. We want to cruise. And if you don't have kids, you DON'T get it, period. All I ask is to have access to a pool with my child that isn't polluted by BLARING music all day long. It isn't an unreasonable thing. I find all your ignorant responses unreasonable.

CCL advertises "Fun for all, All for fun" basically they are a cruise line for all. IMO that means, no matter age, family, couples, singles, seniors, etc. all can have fun and find something that interests them. If an area is Adults Only, it is that. Otherwise, any area not marked is available for all. Sorry, but there is not an area marked for families with children only that I am aware of.

I fully understand your comments and desire, however, to state our responses are ignorant and unreasonable does not compute. Go back and read some of your comments and responses and maybe you will see who is being unreasonable.

I have kids. And grandkids. I would never expect to be able to take them to an adult area on any ship. Adults only means just that, adults only. And as others have pointed out, it's quiet there because there are no kids. Can't you go to the adult area when your child is in the camp? We'll be on the Freedom in January and if I see any kids in the adult area I wouldn't hesitate to ask a crew member to make them leave. Adults aren't allowed in Camp Carnival, right? Why should kids be allowed in the one area that's for adults only? I don't care if your kid is well-behaved and quiet, if they allow your kid in they'd have to allow all, then it wouldn't be adults only. Sorry you don't like it. But you choose to bring your child on your cruise, so you have to deal with it. And the people responding to your posts are not ignorant. Just because they think adult areas should be just that, adult areas, does not make them ignorant. You think their responses are unreasonable? I find the fact that you want to bring your child to the adult area extremely unreasonable.

The point of my post is to say that there should be an area offered to ANYBODY who wants to enjoy some pool time without being subjected to loud music. Not that parents should take their kids into your precious aft pool.

You do realize that even Disney, the ultimate "family" cruise line has an all adult pool. There is nothing wrong with this.

I have kids and I get it. Adult means Adult. We gave up that amenity when they were younger and we had to stay with them. Now they are older, we don't and we take advantage of adult areas some of the time, an I don't want to see kids in the adult area. So, please explain to me, what I don't get.

Why do they have the hairest man contest in the "family area". I perfer my kids not to see that. Its an adult contest, right? Can they do this in the adult area or at least by the adult only pool. We try to avoid that area when this is happening. I enjoy watching it myself but not with my kids which would be in the pool at that time of day.
