All Things Explorer of the Seas! -- Part 2

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the info! Are the balconies plexiglass or metal? I remember reading that below a certain deck the balcony was metal. I was wondering if it is different between 7 and 8.

Thanks!

Deck 6 balcony walls are all metal. Deck 7 and above are half metal, half plexiglass.

When it first opens. Not trying to be funny but if you get there when it first opens for regular breakfast, you'll have your ready made eggs in 5 minutes and your choice of any section of seats. Same for dinner. We don't bother with lunch.

First thing in the morning is correct. My wife and I try to get to the WJ when it opens up. Not many people are there and u can pick a seat next to the window

This thread is super long so forgive if this question has been asked, but what times do the bars open on the explorer? I was on the Majesty last year and I bought the premium package under the assumption that the bars were open 24/7 which they weren't. I'm not sure, but I think they were open at 10 or 11 am on majesty

I am pretty sure that the bar at the Cafe Promenade opens at 7 AM. The pool bars start opening around 9 AM.

The Cafe Promenade bar opens at 6:30am. The Casino bar, Dizzy's, the Chamber and the Schooner Bar are open late.

I believe you can also get morning alcoholic beverage service (i.e. mimosa's, bloody mary's, etc) in the MDRs with breakfast.

While we're discussing the Windjammer' date=' when are good times (with no waiting) to go? Thank you![/quote']

We have been on the Explorer 5 times....and we avoid the windjammer as much as possible, for so many reasons.....

Embarkation, we are usually with the first group to get on the ship, so we are at the WJ early for the traditional lunch, before the crowds get there...

We will also have breakfast there on occasion, but only if we are there early when they first open...

Can anyone tell me if they have Texas Holdem Tournaments on the EOS? If so, when? what are the buy-ins? and are there re-buys or re-entry?

Thanks.

They do have single table sit-n-goes, 50 buy in for cash tourneys, 100 for Royal poker tour. The tourneys didn't get enough players most days, and we didn't get enough players to qualify for a cruise spot. The cash games were OK, a couple decent players and a lot of donkeys.

interesting. never seen any sit and goes but everytime ive been on the explorer the poker table was always jammed at night with a cash game. the free cruise tournament can get a little crazy with the rebuys/add ons. look in the casino section and theres a few topics on poker with RCI.

Thanks Roger and Dave.... so it doesn't sound like they have scheduled tourneys,, example 10 PM on Tues and Thurs. Last 2 cruises (NCL & Princess) I was on we had to sign up for the tourneys ahead of time and there was a waiting list, they only had one table so they could only accommodate 10 players.

NCL has re-buys, last time the guy that won bought in 4 times.. spent $400 to win, $700. Princess - no re-buys which I prefer.

Forgive me if this is already mentioned somewhere in this thread..it's really long. :) Plus, things change rather frequently.

What are the dining hours for the WJ? When the WJ is closed is there an area to get iced tea or lemonade? I'm not a soda drinker.

Windjammer closes around 9 or 9:30pm. Sometimes Cafe Promenade has iced tea. I've not seen lemonade there. One of my pet peeves about Voyager/Freedom class. Room Service also has iced tea and lemonade, however there is a charge for late night orders.

Even if you're not a soda drinker, you may want to consider the soda card on the Explorer - it has the freestyle coke machines and they offer a lot more than just soda. It also includes flavoured Dasini water, Hi C fruit beverages, Minute Maid lemonade (with flavour add ons), and maybe a couple of others.

The freestyle machines on the promenade are available 24 - 7.

Great info. Thank you for posting. Are Freestyle machines located anywhere else on Explorer? Do they function (only) with a valid cup' date=' or some other method?[/quote']

The Freestyle machines are in Windjammer too. They only work with the special cup you get with one of the beverage packages.

Thank you!

Are there still two semi-formal nights (on an 8 night cruise) on Explorer? If so' date=' is the food in the MDR any fancier on these dining nights as compared to casual dining nights?[/quote']

There are two formal nights on an 8 night cruise. The second formal night usually has lobster tail on the MDR menu.

Looking at some cabins on the Explorer, deck six, directly above the MDR. Is late night noise from below likely to be an issue? Thanks!

I was in 6678 on my December cruise, it's pretty much on top of the MDR. I didn't hear a thing from there.
