Just canceled 2 2011 and 1 2012 cruises and sold 5600 shares of CCL Stock SMOKING BAN

Doesn't "synthetic" mean "fake" or "phony".

Maybe you should change it to "Prosthetic" to reflect the lameness of your arguments. :D

Love ya... mean it.

Ok Allen...that seriously made me laugh :p

Fishon' date=' I agree with you totally. I remember back when I was told that I couldn't let my mule poop in church anymore. I was scandalized and sold all my shares in the hymnal company which that church used. I guess I really showed them!

But now I have adapted and gladly take my mule outside when nature calls.[/quote']

:D How do you come up with this stuff?

Non-smokers are very lucky as they will one day be dieing of nothing. I think if ccl is on the track of health like everyone keeps stressing, they should go to sugarfree, no fat meals, no alcohol, quite allowing soft drinks on board altogether. I mean let's rid the cruise experience of anything unhealthy.

OR... you can just not cruise Carnival.

For me, it's not the health thing, but smoke stinks. I do not want to stink.

All that stuff is already on board ;) You can cruise and be as healthy as you want to be. Limiting the smoking areas is merely making it more so.

All this just because Carnival is restricting you're ability to interfere with non-smoker's vacations?
Really?? How is a smoker interfering with a non-smoker's vacation? Just because someone might get a whiff of cigarette smoke and take a hissy fit? Good god some of you non-smokers need to grow up. And no, I don't smoke.

LOL - a comedian... I do live in Ohio though and all of my clubs are SMOKING ALLOWED even though there is a public smoking ban. And all of my clubs are ALWAYS PACKED because my competitors choose to be non-smoking. But thank you for your sarcastic failure at goating...

I'm sure the Carnival Execs are not going to lose any sleep over your decision, and they are certainly not going to go broke. Someone else will grab up your shares in a heartbeat. In a few years from now, when you are dragging an E tank behind you just so you can breathe, maybe you will understand why people don't want to be subjected to second hand smoke. Enjoy your land locked vacations, because they will all follow suit eventually. Good luck;)

I have been monitoring ccl stocks for sometime now and today had the biggest drop I have seen in quite awhile. I wonder how good the beards will feel about their wonderful decision if the trend continues. Once they bottom out I will end up buying more myself. You would think paradise should have been a worthy enough test case. I think it is great that their benefits earned from stocks will fall due to this.

Would you feel differently if cigarette smoke smelled like dog poop? To me, and apparently many others here, cigarette smoke smells awful, to me, it smells worse than dog poop. And that's bad!! Again, if all smokers were considerate and never, ever smoked where they were not supposed to, I might feel differently. But many do not. Again, based only on my experience, from what I can tell, many feel that they are OWED an area to smoke simply because they chose to start a habit they can now not stop. Sorry.

And it's clear you do not work in health care and have not seen the effects of smoking or second hand smoke on one's lungs or you would feel differently, I think.

Are you serious ? This is NOT about someone getting a whiff of smoke .

This is not the non- smokers against the smokers.

This is about the fact that smoking poses a serious health risk for passengers with asthma, COPD, allergies etc.

All the smokers have to understand is what would you think if your child had an illness affected by smoke ?

You would never smoke anywhere near your precious child, all we are asking is the same right and choice..

The Paradise was initially (and for many years) a completely smoke-free ship. It was built with that purpose in mind. Here is what I wonder, the Paradise did not remain non-smoking, was this due to not being able to fill the ship because of the non-smoking policies?

My mother went on this ship once, and saw people put off the ship that were caught smoking on the ship, no joke! This was in the boarding "contract" for that ship in it's first decade or so.

I went on the Paradise in 2003 when it was still non-smoking and as a non-smoker, I have to say that it was really nice. I didn't see people put off the ship, however I did see cartons of cigarettes being confiscated from people when we were returning to the ship from one of the ports.

Also, I wonder if the Paradise didn't remain non-smoking because perhaps the climate in this country regarding restricting or banning smoking was not quite as strong as it is now...just a thought. Now many more cities and states have banned indoor smoking and smokers are...well...more used to it now.

Agree! The non-smokers need to quit breathing the air also because it is polluted. By the way I am a non-smoker, but it has gone way too far. Non-smokers need to get a grip! If you don't like smoking stay away from it. There are too many non-smoking places to go on the ship! And they say smokers are inconsiderate! If the non-smokers don't get their way they act like crybabies! Just my opinion!:)

This is exactly right, but the smokers will continue to harp on the "epic failure of the Paradise" in a feeble attempt to make a point. That was then. This is now. We'll see how much of an "epic failure" this decision is NOW.

Yes - I received word from John Heald that this rumor is, in fact, true and will be policy. Too bad - I was looking forward to my next level of Milestone but will now not cruise any of CCL's lines.

I remember the debacle and laughing stock that Paradise was in the late 90's then when they painted over the NON-SMOKING signs in 2003.

I am in the night club business and Carnival should have learned by the paltry liquor sales aboard Paradise that banning smoking=lower occupancy and far lower alcohol sales. Oh well.

Not my problem anymore - shame on you Carnival... You had a good thing going and are now trying to be everything to everyone and that isn't why I cruised your line.

[and yes, I did cancel my Seabourn cruise as well. Why cruise with a company that makes ignorant decisions?]

Wow, you sound more like a troll- Carnival still allows smoking on balcony's, casino, casino bar, jazz bar, dance club, and most places on the open deck! Okay so you can't smoke in your room, well I guess you can but there is a 250.00 charge if caught! I don't think Carnival's policy is any worse than most cruise lines. Julie G.

I agree whole heartily with this statement so let's get rid of everything that stinks like old peoples perfume which irritates my sinuses. Hollering babies that need changing. The sweaty people leaving the gym that you are fortunate enough to be stuck on an elevator with.

Oh for God's sake, the market has been horrid for a couple weeks. CCL stock tanking has nothing to do with the darn smoking thing.

If anything, I would assume it has more to do with the new management and how the product is starting to suck, but considering all stocks are doing poorly, I will have to say that it's just doing crappy like everything else.

Your point is valid, there are many noxious odors in the world. However, the significant difference in this case is that old lady's perfumes, nor screaming babies that need changing, nor sweaty people cause lung cancer when inhaled. Second hand smoke absolutely does.

No - you are wrong. "Cancelling" is the Britain English spelling, while "Canceling" is the US spelling. Do you use "humour" instead of "humor"?

Since we're on spelling...explain your use of 'sail' a few posts back when you meant 'sale'. 'Sail' is like when you don't have a motor for your boat - not when you want to buy one.

you are kidding right? did you look at just ccl or did you notice ther rest of the stock market today? if you think ccl's stock went down because of this new policy you're sadly mistaken.

This is as insane as the "failed Paradise" argument, halos. The smokers are drowning and attempting to flail around and save themselves and it's just coming out as ridiculous.

LOL>>> some of this is funny....but also sort of sad

where oh where will you go?? NCL??? all of the inside is NON smoking except for the casino and a cigar bar. All of it...disco, piano bar and so on

Celebrity?? No smoking on balcony even.....Royal Caribbean lets you smoke on the balcony BUT not in the cabins....and not on their more affordable "inside" balcony/promenade/ or whatever cabins....the price of their balconies (real ones) is often a lot higher than Carnival

MSC and Costa have tight policies despite the fact one thinks of Europeans/Italians as heavy smokers

I have read the German line Aida is non smoking inside

so where will you go???

Upscale?? Don't even think about it....

maybe you can sail on the "Celebration">> a 2 night converted 1981 ferry out of Palm Beach LOL>>

or try an Asian line....I think they may allow smoking more??? Otherwise....the choices have narrowed...just as you can't smoke at many hotel chains, resorts etc...or at least not inside

Maybe HAL is the answer....they still will allow balcony smoking and "some" inside venues....but then so does Carnival...

no doubt the Spirit or Conquest class ships are best for smokers....2 bars and can smoke on the balcony and on the one side of the lido deck/s

JMO>>> Fantasy class won't work for smokers....not many balconies, mostly on suites.....and only the disco and part of the casino and one side of deck...not much there

The bigger new ships are more restrictive also...one less bar to smoke in

People are reacting as if there is a total ban....if they sat and actually calmed down enough to think, they'd realize that the cruise lines give more opportunities/places for them to smoke than they would get if they stayed at a hotel.

When it comes time to vacation, I wonder where they plan to go.......
