I am THRILLED that smokers may be cancelling their cruises. Then I don't have to smell their stench outside either while I am trying to enjoy the fresh ocean air only to have smoke blowing in my face.

Your point is valid, there are many noxious odors in the world. However, the significant difference in this case is that old lady's perfumes, nor screaming babies that need changing, nor sweaty people cause lung cancer when inhaled. Second hand smoke absolutely does.

 

Of course it does as the the government tells us it does and of course we all know they would not lie to us. I am more than sure that the chemical plants that pump millions of dollars into the fat cat governments campaign funds can be nothing but safe. I can assure you if the majority of the government higher ups owned tobacco interest instead of oil they would be putting it in candy and kids cereal. Just keep going the direction sheeple like the herders tell you. Come on in the waters fine.

As a smoker, as long as I can still go up on deck and smoke, I am fine, I hate being in closed in places with smoke, I love the casino but only can be in there for so long before smoke gets to me, so I can imagine how the nonsmokers feel.

Excuse me? I'm not being arrogant, I'm telling the plain truth. According to John Heald, over 90% of Carnival cruisers are non-smoking. Why should those 10% of smokers interfere with the majority of cruisers by spreading filthy smoke all over, and potentially causing a health hazard?

 

It's just like kindergarten - majority rules.

 

Something tells me that the 90% also include smokers who do not smoke in their rooms (or homes, or cars)...

Yes - I received word from John Heald that this rumor is, in fact, true and will be policy. Too bad - I was looking forward to my next level of Milestone but will now not cruise any of CCL's lines.

 

I remember the debacle and laughing stock that Paradise was in the late 90's then when they painted over the NON-SMOKING signs in 2003.

 

I am in the night club business and Carnival should have learned by the paltry liquor sales aboard Paradise that banning smoking=lower occupancy and far lower alcohol sales. Oh well.

 

Not my problem anymore - shame on you Carnival... You had a good thing going and are now trying to be everything to everyone and that isn't why I cruised your line.

Book a Courtyard Villa or a suite on NCL..we did it twice in 3 months this year..you will be spoiled to death, the crew is great, you can smoke in your room, and NCL actually gives suite guests perks! We are cruising Carnival in January 2012 just for the itinerary out of San Juan but then I will be going right back to NCL. I love my Courtyard Villa, Concierge and Butler.

People are reacting as if there is a total ban....if they sat and actually calmed down enough to think, they'd realize that the cruise lines give more opportunities/places for them to smoke than they would get if they stayed at a hotel.

When it comes time to vacation, I wonder where they plan to go.......

I still find it odd that smokers always say that they are courteous and accommodating to non-smokers.

 

Then, Carnival says today "We'd rather you only smoke on your balcony, in areas of the casino, areas of the casino bar, jazz clubs, and designated areas on open-air decks.

 

"UNACCEPTABLE! My RIGHTS have been violated! I'm going to file a lawsuit if you ever contact me again."

 

This hardly seems like being accommodating.

So you have given up cruising I take it? I mean since ALL cruise lines are starting these non smoking rules. I am thrilled. I am an ex smoker and love not having to put up with all this smoke. Now maybe I can go into the Piano Bar and enjoy it.

Non-smokers are very lucky as they will one day be dieing of nothing. I think if ccl is on the track of health like everyone keeps stressing, they should go to sugarfree, no fat meals, no alcohol, quite allowing soft drinks on board altogether. I mean let's rid the cruise experience of anything unhealthy.

 

The difference is....people who eat, drink, etc are only killing themselves.

Vanessa.....I wholehardly agree with what your posting with one exception. Some people are allergic to perfumes and can really become ill by the scent, just like smoke inhaled can bring on breathing problems for those allergic to any kind of smoke.

I do believe the cruiselines need better signs to make passengers aware of where the smoking areas are so those that cannot tolerate the smoke can turn around and use a different route. For those that are affected it's not just cigar/cigarette smoke, it's bonfires, fireworks, trash burning etc....that literally can be deadly if inhaled.

Agree! The non-smokers need to quit breathing the air also because it is polluted. By the way I am a non-smoker, but it has gone way too far. Non-smokers need to get a grip! If you don't like smoking stay away from it. There are too many non-smoking places to go on the ship! And they say smokers are inconsiderate! If the non-smokers don't get their way they act like crybabies! Just my opinion!:)

I am still waiting for an answer after the OP bragged that there were AT LEAST 3 cruise lines NOT owned by Carnival....that they could select from.

 

I named NCL....and asked for the other two.
