That's funny, I pay a lot of money for my vacations as well. And as a non-smoker I'd rather my cabin didn't smell horrendous because someone had been smoking in there for a week straight.

On my first cruise on the Victory, my cabin smelled HORRENDOUS because of the previous passenger, it took days for the smell to go away, and I ended up with a pretty nasty case of bronchitis for the week after because of it.

Considering that this is hardly a BAN, and that you can STILL SMOKE on the balcony, or on the open deck, or in parts of the casino, and even a few lounges, I'm sure that you can find SOMEWHERE to light up.

OP: I am so happy to hear that you did this. Maybe if enough people sell their stock the price will go down and I can buy some more. Hopefully the prices will also go down and I can book a couple of more cruises with Carnival, a company that really listens to the majority of its paying passangers.:D
My thoughts exactly! :D

I'm just curious since I don't smoke (anymore) or cruise on any other cruise line.

What are the smoking policies on RCCL?

What are the smoking policies on NCL?

I do think that the ban on in cabin smoking was a bit much. As a non-smoker who always sails in inside cabins I've never had a leftover odor that I noticed.

I guess if I was still smoking it wouldn't seem like such a big deal to leave my inside cabin on deck 6 and go down to the casino bar to smoke or going up to the Lido doesn't seem like such a big deal to me either.

Here in Dallas, there hasn't been smoking in restaurants for a long time and I don't go to bars that don't serve food, so I'm not sure what the rules are.

Question for OP though. Are you going to continue to cruise and if so what cruise line will be your choice?

I don't know the official NCL smoking policy but I noticed that there was no smoking in any of the lounges or bars. Actually, I only noticed smoking in the casino (smoke factory). There was a sign on the wall in my cabin on the Pearl that stated no smoking in cabin but others on the NCL boards swear that smoking is allowed in cabins.

My first ship was the Carnival Paradise which at the time was smoke free. They made announcements on the PA daily that anyone caught with smokes would be put off at the next port. I suspect that Carnival got tired of trying to enforce the policy. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the major reason for changing it. It was nice to not have smoke anywhere on the ship.

NCL allows you to smoke in your cabin..and in the casino..However everywhere else in outdoors only..I smoke and think the casino STINKS and I would not smoke in cabin anyway..I smoked in the cabin on our NCL cruise just one time out of the whole week..I think smoking inside is not good..I would NEVER cancel my trip because you cannot smoke..Just smoke outdoors

I just got off a HAL cruise and people were smoking in there rooms, Casino, part of the Crows Nest and one other bar so they are more liberal than NCL.

I think some of the "rude users" are upset that they're finally being "discovered". Above all, my "tattling" (I can't believe I'm even saying that...) will help the community as a whole, eliminating some posts, and hopefully users, that tend to destroy otherwise fine threads.

I'm pretty sure that we (the members of CC) are all quite capable of deciding on our own which members 'help' our community ... I, for one, don't really want someone else making those decisions for me.

I know where that little red triangle is located. If truth be told, CC is one of the mildest forums out there. Not much here shocks me.

Yep.. knew I should have used the sarcastic emotion. I want to buy it so that I can watch it go up! OBC would be an extra plus. Going to add it to my stock watch now....

Well  the 48 avatar was bad enough :D JK ;)

Against him? Why would anyone be against him. He has a right to spend his money where he sees fit. I fail to understand why people take it so personal when someone says they are going to sail a different line (this is true of all boards on CC). People act like he is talking bad about their child.

Why even come on here and state all this in the first place? The OP had to know the reactions he would get. If I felt this way, I'd keep it to myself, why air my dirty laundry??

Let's face it, no one here cares if anyone sold their stock or cancelled their cruise. It affects no one on here. Carnival is the only one who stands to lose or gain and they would not have changed the rules without doing their research and homework. Complaining to us is not going to change anything and no benefit comes from it, as is obvious from these threads. Especially when most don't agree with the OP.

yes - i received word from john heald that this rumor is, in fact, true and will be policy. Too bad - i was looking forward to my next level of milestone but will now not cruise any of ccl's lines.

I remember the debacle and laughing stock that paradise was in the late 90's then when they painted over the non-smoking signs in 2003.

I am in the night club business and carnival should have learned by the paltry liquor sales aboard paradise that banning smoking=lower occupancy and far lower alcohol sales. Oh well.

Not my problem anymore - shame on you carnival... You had a good thing going and are now trying to be everything to everyone and that isn't why i cruised your line.

[and yes, i did cancel my seabourn cruise as well. Why cruise with a company that makes ignorant decisions?]

ok now i'm confused .. i know we couldn't smoke in the rooms, but we CAN still smoke in the designated sections correct????? I'll be one irritated momma if I can't smoke for 6 days.....

Yes. there are several areas of the ship where you can still smoke.

The main differences between before and now, is that you can't smoke in your cabin (but you still can on the balcony), you can't smoke in the piano bars, the cigar bars are no longer going to exist and much of the casinos will be smoke-free (with a section of it still smoking). Pretty much everything else is the same as it was before.

JUst to add to this thread..

I have asthma and being around smoke can make me very ill..

The smoking restrictions..you will notice I did not say smoking ban.. is good for everyone!

I can enjoy my cruise without leftover smoke residue in my cabin , I can stay away from smoking areas etc.

The smokers can also enjoy their cruise, without blowing smoke in areas that can make others ill, around children, passengers with brwathing conditions and those who worry about 2nd hand smoke danger.

Believe me I am understanding, my parents smoke, But with the serious consequences of smoking I would hope most passengers could be understanding and considerate of others.:o

The non-smokers keep saying it is just amminor thing and they don't understand why people are getting upset. Turn the tables, if smoking was opened up in more areas, they would be in an up rage. They would have little rascal scooters and waddling people everywhere hollering about their rights and diseases that smoking supposedly hurts.

We don't understand why people are getting upset because this change is for the better health and comfort of all passengers. Smokers made the conscious decision to start smoking, a stupid and pointless habit. Now smokers must live with the consequences of their actions. If you don't want to be left out of the piano bar or such places that are now smoke free, you shouldn't have started smoking in the first place.

Granted, a lot of smokers who this affects probably started smoking before it became frowned upon as much as it is today. But that still doesn't excuse the fact that they chose to start smoking. Smokers made the decision to smoke, and I made the decision not to smoke. The less the second-hand effects of your habit are forced upon me, the better. :)

No - you are wrong. "Cancelling" is the Britain English spelling, while "Canceling" is the US spelling. Do you use "humour" instead of "humor"?

couldnt resist this one....still trying to catch up on the entertaining reading here !!! but the OP is bashing for spelling?? when He himself said

"I am being informed of 2 ships that are for sail that simply need some updating... Hmmm... Perhaps my partners and me need to open our own cruise line... lol"

I pretty sure you meant to type SALE as in selling the ships? as we know SAIL is the action of what the ships are doing............with less smokers !!!!:D:D:D

I am a NON smoker now..smoked for 19years and quit over 5 years ago. I LOVE the new restrictions and welcome all of them on the other lines as well and I believe in "to each his own" ...buy your ship..make it ALL smoking but IMHO I believe you'll find more people that would NOT go on an ALL smoking ship as compaired to a NON smoking ship

I believe that 90% of the clientele are very happy over this !

Told both reps they'll have 8 weeks during which time I will tolerate marketing communications from them but I will sue them for receiving their stuff afterwards.

....and this seems sane to you???

I'd like to think that the few of you who are acting like crazed fools will calm down after a good night's sleep, see your posts from today and feel horrified, but something tells me that won't be the case.

I started to dislike CCL, but with the new smoking policy and what seems to be a weeding out of high strung people, easy to anger and make rash decisions, CCL may start to actually look good to me again.....
