saphir Posted June 28, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2011 I read that the Crown would be renovated in October. What changes will be made?
Astro Flyer Posted June 28, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2011 We're sailing the Crown the cruise before drydock but have not heard about any major work being done. Since it's a rather brief dry (or wet) dock, it's most likely for a tune up & not any sort of overhaul. We're flying into your city for a couple of pre-cruise days before taking the VIA train for a day in Quebec & looking forward to both cities. Pam in CA Posted June 28, 2011 #4 Share Posted June 28, 2011 All cruise ships go into wet dock every 2-3 years for maintenance that can't be done while passengers are onboard. Engines and mechanics are checked and tuned up/fixed, barnacles scraped off, etc. Most of it is not obvious to passengers; kind of like taking your car in for an oil change and to check the brakes, tires, etc. :) Sometimes a bit of refurbishment and soft goods replacement is done. With just a week, it's not going to be major nor design modifications done.

caribill Posted June 28, 2011 #6 Share Posted June 28, 2011 Likely also paint below the water line with paint that helps the ship cruise with more fuel efficiency.

You could have divers do it, but it would be really, really expensive.
cruisingwith4 Posted June 29, 2011 #8 Share Posted June 29, 2011 Just off the Crown on Monday. It needs a bit of TLC. It could probably use more than just a quick "tune up". We sailed the Golden last year and we could see the difference a refurbishment made compared to the Crown.
