Bummed about lost items on FOS

Can't help wondering why you took six bags of jewelry on a cruise???

Kathy

I have 5 kids so I barely have time to pack let alone go through and pick out all the jewelry I'm going to want to wear for 10 days, so I just brought all of it.

We were on the Radiance in February, and on our way home (we were about an hour from the port) I realize that I left every piece of jewelry I own - about 6 jewelry bags worth - on the shelf in the vanity mirror. I immediately called Royal and filed a lost and found claim and told them exactly where I had left it. 5 days later I got an email saying they hadn't recovered my lost items. It was my fault for leaving all of it, but I do wonder what happened to it and who ended up getting it.

And that is exactly why I don't wear real jewelry on vacation. I have pieces that I bought for next to nothing that I use specifically for vacation. One less thing for me to have to worry about.

We all have a personal responsibility to take common sense precautions and to teach our children to do the same.

- Leaving the cabin involves both of us doing a separate check to make sure nothing is left behind.

- Every bag we use has a business card inside it sealed in plastic.

- There is also a card inside the battery compartment of my notebook PC and smaller identification on my camera and the battery.

Remember, if there were no crooks, there would be no need for police.

Left a good pandora bracelet in the safe on Mariner last year. Called serveral times and was told that no one had turned it in. About 3 weeks later I got a call from RCCL that it was turned in.I had to described it to the man on the other end. He also told me that since I forgot it, I had to pay to ship it back. I gave them a cc # and got it back about a week later. Keep checking!

This wasn't real jewelry, the only thing of real value that I normally bring is my wedding ring. It was more that when I got home, I didn't have so much as a pair of earrings to wear! I'm slowly building up my costume jewelry collection again, but I have definitely learned my lesson. When I was storing my jewelry on the shelf behind the mirror, I kept telling myself not to forget it because it's so hidden....I guess I know myself too well!

Of course, it was none of my business, but it did strike me as unusual. So sorry you lost it.

I was kicking myself after I realized I left it all, especially since I only wore maybe 1/20 of it! Oh well, lesson learned, thank God it was only costume jewelry!

I learned this trick in boy scouts many many years ago. When We have everything out of the room I go back and look everyplace there is to look. If I find something I take it out of the room and start over. and after I do not find any thing I the give the room another quick over. In over 40 years I have never left anything on vacation. Well except the money I left in a cruise ship casino.

Once we were sitting at on a couple of chair next to a small table. We noticed that some young boys were taking pictures with a camera and laughing. Then they walked away leaving the camera on the table. I realized that it was not their camera so I picked it on and turned it in to the lost and found on the ship.

OP, I can relate about lost items. Mine was a whole piece of luggage that I truly believe never made it on the ship. Last time we saw it is when we gave everything to the porter.

This was in March. It is now July. I have serious doubts that I will ever see it again:(.

Here is a link to what I posted about it in another thread.

We are just back from a B2B on the Serenade. I bought a new camera in St. Thomas. I had it with me when we went to the repeat cruiser party in the Safari Club. Later that night (around 11:00) I reached in my purse to get the camera to take a picture of something and it was gone. The only thing I knew to do was to check with Guest Services. As soon as I got to the bottom of the stairs on Deck 4, I could see 3 officers standing behind the counter grinnng from ear to ear. And one of them was holding up my camera!!! I was so relieved. There are some honest folks out there!

Who was your insurance with? I never knew about the "necessity" part.

On one of our earliest cruises a garment bag did not make it to the ship. This was when you had to dress for dinner every night in a minimum of church clothes (jacket for the men) and the only alternative dining was a PB&J from room service.

When we got off the ship, there was our garment bag along right beside our other luggage. We had our name on it in two different places. I'm sure it never made the ship.

It was with Access America. When I first called and spoke with a rep they told me that they wouldn't cover most of the items that I said where in the bag. Then, after I filed all the paperwork back to them it was probably over 2 weeks and the website stilling said that my claim was pending. I called them several times to inquire what was taking so long. Finally, I got a lady that said that it had taken long enough and she would take care of it herself. She questioned the items that I listed, and I said that I realized they would not cover everything that I listed. But I listed everything that was in the suitcase because that is what the form asked for.

If you got this far, they only thing they covered were a few undergarments. EVERYTHING else was not covered because they were not considered "neccessary".

Thanks for the prompt reply. I was wondering if it was cruise line insurance which I have always felt probably had more holes than a sieve so I always get third party. We usually look at TraveLex first as it is primary but compare it with Travel Guard cost wise. I'll start looking at the fine print a little closer.

I can't understand why they denied payment for things like a shaver, hair dryer, etc. What's the difference between those and say a pair of shoes when you have four other pairs in other suitcases you could wear or one of two bathing suits you took along. You insure what is in the bag, not whether you can survive without it. I can halfway understand perfume because it would be hard to prove it was Opium when it could be Evening in Paris (you old timers remember that?)
