Jsaxm Posted July 12, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2011 Well, I know that no one can say for sure, and that animals are going to do their own thing. However, I was wondering what kind of sealife is typically in Tracy Arm? More particularly, are there whales that cruise Tracy Arm? Any insight is appreciated....and as I said, I know that animals cannot be predicted. Thanks!
wolfie11 Posted July 12, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 12, 2011 Whales do not generally go up into Tracy Arm, but are often seen feeding near the bar at the mouth of Tracy Arm, particularly when the tide is in flood.
Marie321 Posted July 12, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 12, 2011 We will be going to Tracy Arm in about 2 weeks. On a previous trip we saw lots of seals, pups, and even some brown bear. We were on Adventure Bound and could get quite a ways in.
Rare Coral Posted July 12, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2011 We saw whales at Tracy Arm (though I am not sure if this was at the mouth or not) - it was early on and we were on AdventureBound. Wolfie is probably right where it was at.
vbmom87 Posted July 13, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 13, 2011 We saw whales on our way from Juneau to Tracy Arm, but did not see any once in the fjord.
Chenega Posted July 13, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 13, 2011 Not much food for the whales in the fjord itself. Better things outside the mouth of the arm.
Budget Queen Posted July 13, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 13, 2011 Bottom line, there are not whales IN Tracy Arm, but can be seen on the transit. I've had trips where there were many sightings, but most have had few, including my recent trip. Harbor Seals are commonly seen and birds are in the fjord. chipmaster Posted July 13, 2011 #8 Share Posted July 13, 2011 YMMV: Two bear sightings for in the fjord, multiple seals and birds. Two whales OUTSIDE of the fjord between mouth and Juneau.
