Just Back From the Sun

Hi, just returned from the Sun. I will write a formal review for the review board, but figured this is a good place to write general remarks, or answer any questions. This was our first time on the Sun, but we have sailed other NCL ships and RCCL ships, as a point of comparison.

We found the ship in good repair. We were in an inside cabin 9134. The room was large compared to other insides we have been in. Lots of storage space. The bathroom had plenty of room if you are not a tall or large person. Otherwise, you might have issues. The entire ship's decor could be considered "dated". The color scheme needs some freshening up.

We had no issues whatsover in any of the free dining venues. There are two sides to the menu, the left side changes everyday, and the right side is offered every day. All the choices on the right side are good quality. How can one go wrong with salmon, rib eye steak, roast chicken. If one is looking for gourmet plating, then NCL is not the cruiseline for you. The fare is plentiful and tasty, but nothing extremely fancy. We were disappointed in LeBistro and the Italian restaurant. As mentioned we have used NCL several times and have always enjoyed eating at these venues. The menu has declined in these venues in the past years. In the Italian restaurant the cover charge is $10, so it is still reasonable. But LeBistro, I don't think is worth the extra $20.

The pool area was nice, but again I think it needs a revamping. All new sun loungers, though.

We went to three of the shows and they were all very good. There was an illusionist who put on a very entertaining show. "We Will Rock You" was performed by the NCL singers and dancers and was enjoyable. The last night there was a juggler from the UK who we loved.

I am not a gambler, but the casino on this Baltic cruise was always on the empty side compared to Caribbean cruises I have been on. But I did win $11.00 on the penny slot machine, and only spent less than $1.00 to do it.;)

Cruise Critic meeting - the ship sponsored a nice cruise critic meeting which was attended by many of the ship's officers including the Captain and hotel director.

Well I have already written a novel. If you have any questions concerning the Baltic itinerary or any Sun generic questions. Ask away.:)

Egads, it must be a conspiracy to force people to use the free dining options:eek::cool:.

Thanks for the review!

You mentioned new pool loungers....pray tell me that they are NOT those awful plastic kind! When we were on Sun in March 2010, they were unloading a whole new set of those and taking away the nice aluminum ones. I was not looking forward to having to endure the creaking, moving, not very comfortable IMHO plastic ones for our cruise last October but when we got aboard, it appeared that the aluminum ones were back - perhaps newly upholstered. I sure hope that those are the new ones you mention and not those blasted plastic beasts that aren't very good for us...ahem...fluffy cruisers:D

No. They are the mesh kind, very popular with outdoor furniture here on Long Island. They keep you cool, plus they don't stay wet when it rains.
