Ecstasy Pax Aren't Even Pleased with 50% Refund PLUS 25% off Future cruise!!

The funny thing is - they can threaten to sue but they really don't have a leg to stand on if they REALLY READ the cruise contract. Carnival (and all cruiselines) write the contract to their benefit. Do you think they are going to make it possible for people to sue for further compensation?

Even if they did sue and win the lawyers would get the biggest chunk of change - while all the passengars will be whining because they didn't read their contracts with the lawyers either and didn't know that they weren't going to benefit from the outcome.

To me the ship is the vacation - everything else is just icing on the cake. I do love icing though.

I agree. I sail April 14th on the Ecstasy and would gladly take a 50% discount for 4 days on the ship. The excursion we have is only 8 -10 hours. I am sure I could find something on the ship to pass the time. Maybe another drink or 2.

How many of us would be Ecstatic:p to actually have the engine break down on your ship and be given this type of compensation.

I can certainly tell you, I'd be partying it up for the rest of the cruise and I'd already be planning how I'm gonna use that 25% off the next one.

LOL! I was thinking the same EXACT thing...I'm glad someone else said it first!!! I'd take my 50% refund and book another cruise immediately!! Then I'd sit back on the pool deck and drink and relax...

I'd make sure to be mucho nice to the crew which were probably miserable (poor guys) and I'd be thrilled, knowing my next cruise was 75% paid for. :D

I can't imagine being happier.

I could sit on a 20 ft sailboat and be thrilled. Just put me on the ocean!! :D

The people who were miserable on this cruise, have every right to react they way they see fit....I just see WAY differently.

Life is very short...being miserable takes up too much of my energy, so I avoid it at all costs. The only thing that would make me misreable on a ship would be if it were sinking...now THAT might ruin my day ;)

karen1127...it's a shame there weren't more people like you on board that ship!! :D

Freakin awesome!!!

I'd live with the disappointment alright....woohooo!!!!

After a while the people stranded on the island overnight began complaining because everyone sailing got the same deal, not just the people stranded on the island. The 500 or so people who never left the ship got the same deal.

Some people just are never happy.

Well...there you go. It goes to show you that people are just plain selfish! What a bunch of buttheads!

BTW...I'm happy for you that you stayed on the ship!!!! ;)

I'm glad for the most part that I stayed on the ship too.

I also heard about some wild parties on the island too which might have been fun. Being on the ship wasn't any fun as most of the entertainment staff was on the island. It was a very strange feeling to be on that big a ship with only about 500 passengers. They combined all of the dinner seatings in one dining room and one seating, at my table of 6, I was the only one on the ship. I had a great(free) cruise though and really loved the free cruise on the Monarch in June of 2003 also.

Go figure. I guess I'm alone with the ship being my destination.

I Don't know...Don't you think....something had to suck pretty bad for that many passengers to get 'that' upset.

read the following quote

Many passengers, including Langley, scoffed at de la Cruz's claim that they were notified about the ship's problems.

Langley said she was called by a Carnival representative March 6, shortly before she left for the airport to fly to Houston and was never told the Ecstasy had mechanical problems, though Carnival was already aware of them.

She said she was told March 6 that the ship might be arriving at Cozumel later than expected, and she immediately asked if she could receive a refund rather than risking an unpleasant vacation. She said she was told she could not.

Langley said that she and her sister, Elizabeth Greenhill, of Sacramento, Calif., who met her for the cruise, were not told about the possibility of a full refund until after passengers started boarding Monday night.

I have a couple of questions ?

A. Once someone showed up at the dock and found out about the cruise and was offered to cancel.

 1. Would their Airfare / Car Rental and other expenses be refunded ?
 2. What about thier wasted Vacation Hours ? (Many people have limited vacation time or have to take off unpaind time) (Or can only take off during certain times of the year) seems to me this would make them feel almost stuck with going ahead with the crippled cruise ! ( you can say they "had a choice" but it does seem a little last minute pressure was involved here for making an important decision)

Just trying to be fair here....I think these are Important Questions.....I do also believe they needed to try and make the best of the cruise since they were there.

read the following quote

I guess it depends on your perspective...OK...she could have beeen given 100% refund, on the 6th before flying to port...then she'd have been home doing nothing for a week. Maybe this is what she'd have preferred..I don't know.

Me, I'd much rather cruise on a limping ship for a week at half price...relaxing, enjoying the amenities and pampering of the ship, than staying home, most likely losing the air fare money, wasting a weeks vacation time doing nothing...not to mention getting 25% off my next cruise, which would be an added niceness.

also, I think the answers to your questions above would be:

No and

No.

Don't get me wrong I love being on the ship but the reason I pick a cruise is not only for the ship but also for the ports of call on the itinerary. 50% back is very nice and people shouldn't be complaining. Add another 25% of a future cruise and you've got me saying WOW! But I also think that I would be ticked off too if the ship did arrive in 1 port, a port that was not on the original itinerary no less, that would cause my refund to be cut in half. I would also be very bored by day 4 sitting on the ship, fighting for pool chair space, bumping into people all over the place, getting on an elevator and finding all the buttons pushed in, blowing money in the casino, etc.

I'm borderline ADD (or so everyone tells me) and I get bored fairly quickly unless my brain is working overtime on ideas or problems (geeky, I know). I don't know that all those sea days would be what I wouldn't mind. I might be right along with that group chanting and making signs!!

We did get bored some of the time. Especially during the day. It seems the only thing going on during the day was bingo or stuff out by the pool. It was just too chilly and windy for us to lay out by the pool so we let the kids go to the arcade and we spent about $200/cruise just at the arcade! Yikes! I got a call on March 6 also and was told about the problems (probably because I asked) but was assured it would be fixed prior to sailing. I also felt pressure when presented minutes before boarding with the option of canceling and getting a full refund. Kids were anxious, we were tired & hungry, had been sitting there for 5 hours, kids on spring break, DH on his only vacation for the year...........get the picture? We could also see the ship right out the window so how can you just decide right then and there to not go? We dont regret going and had alot of fun but I would have been mad had we gone to yucky Progreso and only gotten 25% refund. I still think those who want to sue are just looking for an out!
Could you have taken them up on the vacation guarantee if they had stopped in Progresso? If so would you have still gotten the 25% refund
and discount on the next cruise? Did anyone ask?
I didnt but there had to be some who asked at the info desk because the line was so long the entire cruise. Several times I wanted to check my S & S account balance but there was always so many people in line.
