tell me about mytime dining

Recommended Posts

We have always been firm believers in traditional seating. We love the service you get from having the same people wait on you every night. Pre-kids, we were always late seating people too, to avoid having to rush to get to dinner.

But now that we travel with a toddler, 8:30 dinner doesnt work. But 6pm we're rushing to get there on time and on our last cruise we were ALWAYS late (like 10-15 minutes). And it threw our whole service off. Ideally, we'd love to eat at about 7 every night.

What is the deal with MyTime? Do you make reservations? DO you just show up and they seat you as quickly as possible (we're a party of 5, grandparents included)? What's the average wait?

You can make reservations, but don't have to. If you go during the dinner rush, you may have to wait a few minutes though...if you want to eat at 7 every night, I recommend making a reservation. If you do MTD, you have to prepay gratuities...we personally love MTD:)

If you think that even with a 7pm dinnertime there may be occasions when you will have to rush or might be late, just plan on showing up without reservations. We rarely make reservations for my time dining, frequently dine between 7 and 7:30, and have never had a wait of more than a very few minutes. We were strong advocates of traditional dining but have been won over by RCI's My Time Dining. Can't say as much for Princess' Anytime Dining or NCL's Freestyle Dining, but MTD works very well for us.:)

Last cruise we were a group of eight doing MTD and liked the wait staff so much the first night we made a standing 6:30pm reservation for a table in their area. Just to be sure you like the staff wait until the first night to set it up... or second night if the first ones are not suitable. After a few nights we learned to just pass the check-in desk and head to "our" table. With a group of five you would likely get a six top for the duration.

Is this for your cruise next year??

We're in the EXACT SAME BOAT. We love cruising, always do 8:30 because rushing to eat for early dining just doesn't work for us. This year our 2 yr old is going.

I think we're going to try my time dining for this same reason. we're going on allure where crowds can be a big issue. I'll try to remember to post back how it goes for us in October.

We were on the Oasis in May of this year and tried MTD for the first time. The first night it was a mess. There were lines for reserved and non-reserved, and I mean lines.. Waited for thirty minutes and then waited another thirty minutes to even get a menu. It was 8:00 pm when we arrived and I was worried we would miss the show at 10:45pm. Suffice to say service improved and we made the show...but learned a few things. I had made standing reservations for each night at 8:15 (have to watch that sunset). On the second night we we again went at 8:00pm and were seated immediately. We had the best wait team, ever, and even met the head waiter. We then asked for them each night. Service and food were great...just not the first night. When we go again in April of 2012 will go to izumi's the first night!

I think we are going to try it in November on the Mariner. We don't like to eat early, but 8:30 is a little late. By the time we get out we are so sleepy we end up going up to our room and crashing, thus missing out on the evening activities.:(

If we do it around 7 or so we will be able to "walk" off being tired and be ready for the shows at night.

We're heading out on Mariner 11/11/11. We've always been traditional dining folk but late dining is too late and early is such a rush. Does anyone know what time the evening shows are? I'm reserved for 6:45 MTD b/c everything else is filled (reservation wise) but I'd really prefer to go at 7 or 7:30. BUT I don't want to go so late that I miss shows. Any help?

For those ofo you with Adventure Ocean aged children you may wish to consider My Time Family Dining. As I understand it, you go to dinner and the folks from Adventure Ocean will show up at the dining room to escort your children to the AO. This leaves you free to enjoy the rest of your dinner with the love of your life. I'm sorry I can't tell you more as our "precious son" is now 24 and he goes his own way once we hit the gangway.

We're also trying MTD for the first time as we're traveling with a 6 and 7 year old. Some nights there will be two of us and other nights 6. Since the number in our party will vary, I am assuming that it won't be possible to have the same waiters each night?
