Hello,

I will be using Marriott points so I'm deciding between La Concha and Marriott Resort and Casino. Both use the same amount of points, so I'm looking for opinions on which is nicer. I've never stayed in SJ, so any help is appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

Just my opinion but I prefer La Concha. The hotel was completely renovated and reopened at the end of 2007. They also opened a new suites Tower not too long ago. La Concha's style is a more tropical modern whereas the Marriott is a more traditional style. Think South Beach, Miami. Both hotels are close to each other and on the same beach but the shopping around La Concha is better. Across the street are stories like Gucci, Ferragamo, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, etc. and there are plenty of bars/restaurants within walking distance. From Thursday till Saturday the lobby bar of the hotel is the place to be in San Juan. Hope this helps

We Stayed at LaConcha for the last 2 trips using our points. The rooms are very contemporary instead of just plain hotel rooms. Good location with a park next to it and lots of shops and restaurants close. It is our first choice when we go to San Juan.

Both are great hotels and I don't think you can go wrong with either, but we also prefer La Concha. Biggest selling point for our family of 4 is that they have rooms with 2 queen beds whereas Marriott Stellaris has double beds. Also like the outside/casual restaurant at La Concha more than the pool service at Stellaris.

  • 2 weeks later...

Yes, they have a casino and it is open 24/7.

The rooms in the original building don't have balconies as a main rule. They all have floor-to-ceiling windows that open and have amazing views. A few on the lower levels have balconies but you would have to specifically request those. All of the rooms in the new suites Tower have great balconies. It is a “Embassy suites” style building with an atrium in the middle so if you want an ocean view, be sure to request it when booking.

Hope this helps

Are the 2 hotels, Marriott and La Concha, next door to each other? If so, can you use the facilities at either place? Who has the better restaurants? It will be hubby's birthday so we will do a nice dinner.

They are a couple blocks from each other. Though they are both Marriott brands, the hotels are owned and managed by different people and do not share facilities. Obviously, you're welcome to use any of the restaurants, bars, casinos, etc. as anyone else would. For a special dinner, Perla restaurant at La Concha cannot be beat. There is simply nothing like it on the island, or anywhere else for that matter. Check out their website pictures and you'll see what I mean. It is a fine dining seafood restaurant located on the hotels signature shell right on the beach overlooking the ocean.

We're also staying at LaConcha for 2 nights after Thanksgiving, prior to a Sunday departure. It appears that there isn't a hotel shuttle. Are there other shuttles available from the airport or is a taxi the best way to get there. Thanks!

There are no airport shuttles anywhere. Easiest and best way is to catch a cab.
